My first time coming into this store. I'm always in this area but never really had the time to stop…read moreand look around. I finally got my chance to step inside of Kirkland's. This store smelled so good with nice music playing. There were so many cute and nice things to purchase from furniture, home décor, painting, candles the list goes on. The prices weren't too bad. The only negative thing is that the workers were all behind the counter. Never said a word to any of their customers. Just standing there chatter boxing away with each other. It's such a surprise that not one of them would greet or come out on the floor to assist customers. It wasn't like there were 2 or 3 customers in the store that Friday Evening. There were a decent amount of people shopping that night. I would come back only because there are so many cute things to purchase.

After dusting in the first week I noticed saw dust underneath one of the chargers but thought nothing of it. The following week while dusting again I noticed sawdust yet again under two or three of the chargers. After careful inspection I noticed a couple of bugs crawling on the wooden chargers. I did some research and to my disgust, found out they were TERMITES! I immediately removed them from my house and called the store. The manager on the phone was very helpful and encouraged me to bring them in right away for a refund. When I arrived she was not in, but the associate refunded my purchase price with a gift card. They did not seemed concerned that the product I returned has termites and could transfer to other products in the store. I wrote to customer service and after explaining, was offered a gift card. I received the gift card yesterday for $20! This is not even enough to cover 1 new wooden charger & barely the gas spent to drive back and forth to return them. I'm insulted! I expected much more from Kirkland's. I encourage others NOT to purchase products without careful inspection! I will not be returning to this store. I have a complaint on file with the corporate office and have remediated my house to deter an infestation. We have been advised by the exterminator to carefully watch for signs on our wooden table and floors that could have possibly been infected.

There is so much new information today and comparison shopping is a nightmare. My regular sales person was off today and I was greeted by Mildred and pleasantly offered assistance. I was looking for ovens and she was a wealth of information. I had no intention to purchase just select the brand I needed. We started at very high end Viking at my request and worked down looking at many many ovens. This is an exhausting experience. Mildred could answer every question and even redirect me to brands that fit my cooking needs. Design and function over price was my need. Plastic knobs, not enough BTU's, poorly designed burners were some concerns. Mildred narrowed down my selection and next we pulled up the ovens on line and compared the advantages of each oven. THIS was superb all pricing, design, elements and options were printed out. Samsung has a very cleaver new oven with a single door that can actually break into a two piece door. The center burner is very inefficient for my use in the cooking process. Mildred was extremely helpful with high power BTU's, higher quality burners, design elements and oven features. A perfect oven was decided upon after looking at so many choices. A sale was made. I would have wasted a lot of time and even though I had researched ovens when I arrived today. Thank you. I would have never had the information Mildred presented. Very professional and knowledgeable. As I mentioned I had no intention to purchase. I have never had a rude sales person. Actually been rather surprised about the amount of product knowledge in this quickly changing industry the staff presents. I have had delivery issues and a small dent in the past and it was taken care of immediately.

The Kitchen Studio popped up in my google search as being a local dealer of the specific higher end material I wanted. Upon arrival, an employee told me "they don't do just countertops". Okay. That isn't clear on their website. Then she went on to tell me she can't think of anywhere in the area to refer me that "just does counters". First, of all, there are at least 10 countertop fabricators within a 10 mile radius of Glen Ellyn. Someone in the industry should know this. Second, I'm sure the Kitchen Studio has an in house fabricator or they subcontract it out to someone local (most likely) and thus, why on earth would you not give this person my business??? I have a fairly large kitchen and master vanity. My quotes from the other local fabricators, who do, in fact, exist, are coming in at $120/sq foot and up. I'm giving 2 stars instead of one because all their kitchens on houzz are truly lovely and I'm sure if you hire them they would design a beautiful kitchen.

However when cost estimates were developed for contract signing for the project implementation phase, her personal fees were 3 times of what they should have been per our retainer agreement. When I pointed out the retainer terms, instead of correcting, they sent me a new retainer document and told me their process has changed. The change is permanent and sometimes there is a little fallout like this. These were Susan's words in her email to me. I took them to court ( case#2019SR000483 in Dupage county) to get my money back which I did. Susan herself is talented and personable but her business partner and company co-owner's dealings are disappointing and ignorant of basic business ethics. Susan kept saying he handles all money and pricing aspects. I had to walk away! Update 1/10/2020: I stand by my comments and the fact that you completely disavowed the terms of retainer and when I pointed out the pricing terms that we agreed to In the retainer, you emailed me a new retainer document with all pricing terms removed from it. I would have never signed anything or paid you $7k based on that new retainer devoid of any specifics. This was an act of complete lack of integrity. If you are serious about building reputation, practicing integrity will help. Good luck

We hired this company to do a small kitchen remodel (refacing cabinets, new countertops,…read morebacksplash, etc.). Our kitchen is not a very large kitchen, and since we had good existing cabinets, we opted for the quicker and cheaper option of refacing. The overall product ended up being fine and was what we expected; but the management and process that Kitchen Tune Up employed left a lot to be desired. - Scheduling, this was their biggest flaw. The overall project could have been completed in a week. This project ended up taking 3 weeks to complete due to their inability to schedule and complete tasks during the workday. The refacing, which should have taken 1-2 days to complete, took over 4 due to only having the one employee to work 3-5 hours a day. When this was brought up on the first day, as we initially intended on utilizing PTO to be home for the work to be done and were quite frustrated to learn their working hours, no response was received and the minimal working hours continued for another 3 days. We were pushed into having this work completed prior to Thanksgiving, as he was trying to fill up the cabinet installer's schedule. We were assured that the project would be complete before Thanksgiving, but what he failed to mention was that he was only able to schedule the refacing for that week and left us without a countertop over Thanksgiving. He was too preoccupied worrying about his installer's schedule, that he did not care what the client was left with for a given period of time and failed to ensure all the materials, not just the cabinets, would be ready by the first day of installation. - Capability to do the work, Kitchen Tune Up did not have the capability to do tile work or countertop work so this part of their contract was subcontracted out to others. We had to pay an electrician and a plumber for scope involved in this project as well. This information was not shared on the initial meeting, but rather in the fine print of his proposal. As an aside, in the proposal he added additional fees and costs to dispose of items that were not included in the hand written proposal he provided the initial day (overall a few hundred dollar difference, but still frustrating). - Communication, Kitchen Tune Up had an issue with providing reasonable time frames of heads up. This goes hand in hand with the scheduling as my wife and I both work from an office setting, working from home is not an easy thing for either of us. Kitchen Tune Up did not care about what our experience was like for their mishaps. We were told that on the day of tile installation, the installer would install soft-close drawers on the four that were not installed with the refacing. We cleaned out the entirety of these drawers again, for the installer to let us know that the owner did not have the correct pieces to do this work. To this day, we have never heard back from the owner on why this work was never done after he said it would be. - There were some very foreseeable issues that occurred which caused multiple mobilizations of our plumbing contractor. These issues were all due to sizing and measuring that was done twice at the beginning of the project. In my opinion, this is incompetent. The countertop subcontractor that Kitchen Tune Up picked to use was also inadequate; they had a similar issue with measurements which caused another plumber mobilization and another mobilization for them as well. They also wanted to install the sink instead of our plumber because they believed they drilled the sink hole too close to the sink (which they did). Instead of initially owning up to the problem, they tried to cover it up by attempting to install the sink and drill the faucet hole larger, causing us to utilize an escutcheon plate that we did not want. Luckily, we fought back on this and did not allow them to do any further installations, and we let our competent plumber find a solution that worked for us. We spent more time arguing with Kitchen Tune Up's subcontractors than the representative did for us, so we may as well have contracted directly with all the various trades; would have saved a great deal of frustrations. Overall, the project was completed to a standard that we paid for and wanted, but the journey to get there made us regret picking this contractor to do this project. We do not recommend them and would highly advise prior to contracting with them, to talk to others.

Additionally, we had a custom cabinet and crown molding created, and a Lazy Susan bi-fold accordion door installed. From initial contact to the end of the project, the process went very well. Our kitchen design is fresh and updated and we love it!
