I got refereed from my wife which has used Dr. Satnick before and really like him. So we set up a visit and I was off to the eye doctor. First Dr. Satnick is great, really great! He is funny and lots of personality. You can tell he wants to get things done and done right. Unfortunately the reason I give it only 3 starts is because of his staff. I found most of the girls there to be rude, snotty and outright rude. I do believe I over paid for my frames. At first I made the decision to pay the little extra from the frame because I like Dr. Satnick so much. I don't mind paying a little more because of the service. But when I get hit with all these little charges and the stories kept changing from the staff it kinda pissed me off. I've been visiting Dr. Satnick as long as I can remember (probably coming up on 20 years now) and have always gotten great service from him and his staff--so much so that, despite living in the Monterey Bay Area for the last 7 years, I still come back for my appointments with Dr. Satnick. I've never waited long to be seen for my appointment. They have all kinds of equipment to check corneal pressure, photograph your eyeballs , etc. Dr. Satnick himself has a very kind and gentle demeanor. He remembers things about myself and my family and asks about them, which I think is a very personable trait. As my eyes have changed over the years, he has never failed to make astute recommendations and get me my perfect prescription lenses. The office has also always worked with me as far as shipping my glasses/contacts. I'm never in town long enough to pick them up after they arrive, so it's nice that this service exists. I really came to write this review because of my most recent experience ordering glasses. I had two pairs I wanted to order this new year when insurance reset. I had chosen them at my last eye exam when I was in town, but forgot to take photos of them! Fortunately, I remembered the brand and general look of them. When I called about this, one of the staff, Shey'nelline, was kind enough to take photos of the glasses in the office (only the brand I wanted of course) to email to me. I was able to call her again and get quoted for the pairs. I'll admit that I steer toward the more expensive pairs--designer glasses are a vice of mine--so I took a week to think about it. I called back and spoke with Shey'nelline (again!) to get my order in. Doing all of this from half a state away is a level of service I would never expect but was very happy to receive. I have been going to see Dr. Satnick and his team for over a decade now and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for an optometrist. The staff is warm and they all make a point to get to know you, as though you are practically family. You can tell that these people love what they do and they give top notch customer service to their clients. It's personalized and gives that extra something special you just dont find at the minute vision clinics. I had just changed insurance providers and I came prepared to have to give over all the information, I was pleasantly surprised that they had already double checked my insurance and updated my policy in their system. They are updating their equipment to give the best possible eye care and the staff is well rounded and extremely knowledgeable. I had asked about computer glasses and got a very good breakdown from Dr.Satnick about what to look for in the best care to take care of my eyes as well as different lens options. Dr. Steven D Satnick is a great doctor. He was more than helpful, and he took his time to assist me and answer my questions during the exams. Unfortunately, I don't think the prices are fair or competitive. It was my fault - I should have gotten a quote before scheduling my appointment. I just really needed a pair of contact lenses before I went skydiving the next morning (plug for Lake Elsinore skydiving), and this was the only place that I could get an appointment.. I had a comprehensive exam and a contact lenses fitting. I have a pretty good vision plan, and somehow, I ended up paying the same amount as if I didn't have insurance. It turns out that the contact lenses fitting prices differ if you have a astigmatism and if you don't. I have a slight astigmatism which may or may not require toric lenses. The price for the fitting ranges from $90 to $170. My fitting ended up costing ~$144 with a discount. I was not aware of the price difference (and I was not made aware by the doctor or his staff) when I decided to try the toric lenses. The lack of information did not result in the best decision on my part. By calling a few competitors, I discovered more than enough optometrists who charge one flat fee for contact lenses fitting. And no, these are not the Walmart or Costco of optometrists. I am also not a big fan of the service I received from the staff. The staff... well, they could have been more friendly and helpful. (Actually, Chris was quite helpful, the other one not so much.) Maybe they are used to telling people a price and having people hand over their credit cards. I like to do my due diligence. When I asked for the breakdown for the contact lenses prices (w the discounts/rebate/etc), the original number she gave me did not add up with the number from the breakdown. She also made it seem like it was the biggest hassle to give me the numbers (there were no other customer in the office!!). I didn't want to place the order yet, and I asked if I just call in or if I'd have to come back. I was then informed that the price given may not be valid a different day. The only reason I'm not giving this place 1 star is because of Dr. Satnick. I was distraught at the price difference, and I brought up the issue with him. He was completely understanding and he offered/decided to credit the difference to me if I didn't go w the toric lenses. read more

Satnick was friendly and knowledgeable. My experience interacting with him was good. I would give it 4 stars from the experience. However, I was very surprised at the end of the visit when I checked out with the receptionist. I was charged over $300 for the visit & a year's supply of contacts (and these contacts happened to be the least expensive ones he had as an option). This was after insurance, which was surprising since it was a great deal more than other optometrists I had been to previously with the same insurance and same type of contacts. When asked, the receptionist would not clearly explain what all the charges were for. I had to press her several times before she was willing to line out each charge. For these reasons, I don't plan to return. The friendly service by Satnick was not worth the extravagant prices. 3 Stars. Update: I went to Dr. Stephen Huang this year at the Sharp in Scripps/Poway and was only charged a total of $40 for the visit ($10 for copay and $30 for the fitting. First of all, i am easy to please and not typically one to complain. But I work for a doctor's office myself and know how patient's should be treated. That being said, Dr Satnick is excellent! Super friendly and easy to talk to. However, his staff could use an attitude adjustment. Even when I had an appointment the snoody girl (i believe her name is Chris) at the front desk treated me as if i was an annoyance, not once, but at every visit i made to the office. I really like Dr Satnick, but i've given his office more than enough chances and will not be returning to him for my yearly eye exams any more purely because of the treatment by his staff. So, I'm on the computer all day at work. My eyes feel like I either want to pull them off or push them into my brain. A coworker suggests that maybe it's time for eyeglasses. Now, I've always known this but never wanted to admit it and had this theory that if I just didn't wear glasses my eyes would get stronger. I know, I just didn't want to admit I was getting old. So, I call Dr. Satnick's office to schedule an appointment. The receptionist, Elen, says that they could see that day. Of course, I jump at the chance to stop the pain and I drive over immediately. The store is very professional and friendly. My eyes were examined and not only did I need glasses, I needed 2 pairs! Even better, self esteem is blown! Now, the reason why I didn't wear the glasses I got in college, was because they weren't comfortable, I told Elen this and she helped me find the perfect pairs of glasses. Even though more customers came in, her full attention was on me, which I appreciated. I now have my new frames. They are stylish and light! I've gotten so many compliments! The care I received during my visit to Dr. Satnick was better than excellent. Dr. Satnick took his time to thoroughly examine my eyes. Rather than wanting to get me out the door as quickly as possible--as many doctors do--he made sure my eyes were healthy and that he found the best solution to the issue I came in with. I've been coming to Dr. Satnick for two years and have recommended him to my friends without reservation. He's one of most personable people I've ever met in general, and an amazing doctor to boot. He'll explain in layman's terms what's happening in your peepers and is never in a rush to get you out of the chair to see the next patient. He goes through a battery of tests to measure your eye health when you're up for a checkup, some of which can even identify other non-vision related health issues. Freebie! And best of all? He won't judge you even if (like me) you torture your eyes by disregarding all eye care safety and health recommendations. He'll just gently remind you to avoid dipping your fingers into petri dishes before shoving them into your eye sockets for a satisfying ten minute rub. There were times when I told him I'd leave my contacts on until a caramelized crust spread over my corneas like two mini crème brûlées were surgically implanted into my skull. I expected him to just shake his head with a deep sigh, sinking back into his chair with a facepalm. Nope! He'll leave it to your family to judge and shame you when you visit them once a year on Christmas. read more

I love dr Satnick so I'm giving this a 2. He needs to take another look at his staff, though. My husband and I recently got insurance that covers VSP so I called their office Jamie picked up and I asked her to look up if we were in the system. She asked for my husbands social and then said the next opening was at Saturday 830 and she even apologized it was so early. I said that's ok put us down and then we got off the phone. Today I called to verify the time and some girl Picked up I didn't quite remember her name and she was sooooo rude!!!!! I was asking her to verify the time of my appt and she couldn't find us in the system.. She said "you know what I'm going to give you to Jamie because I'm confused right now" in a rude way. Okay so now I'm happy and excited I get to talk to Jamie... NOPE! She's rude as hell too!!!! When I first spoke to her she was soooo sweet! Now she's saying I never made an appt and that I hung up even saying rudely "how can I make you an appt when I don't even have your info?" Uh, why would I tell my husband to move his shift hours and alarm and write down in our appt book if we didn't make an appt? And instead of saying "I'm so sorry for the misunderstanding let's go ahead and make you another one" or something along those lines she kept trying to blame me!!!!!!!!!! We used to go to this office and yes, Dr. Satnick is a nice guy. Felt the exam was good. but - very pushy when it came to purchasing glasses and lenses ($$$). My finances ae tight and need to save every penny I can. When I asked for a contact lens fitting for a lense type I could purchase at Costco or on-line, he gave me the guilt trip on how I should be obligated to buy them at his office WHAT??? He sucked me in and I spent twice as much as I should have for my contact lenses - and then the rebate offered was not accepted. NEVER AGAIN! Took my daughter to the Dr. Steven Satnick, an eye doctor, for a check up, and allowed him to do the eye exam alone with her. Big mistake. When I was called into the exam room, she was shook up, and near tears. No, he didn't touch her inappropriately, but he did talk down to her, scold her for following the recommendations of other eye doctors, made her feel small, and eventually made her cry. When I confronted him about it and told him that he should be having this conversation with me, the parent, he became indignant, started arguing with me about it. Obviously, I got mad about this, and when I did, he threw us out of his office without finishing the transaction. Only when I refused to leave without completing the visit, did his assistant take over and finish the job. He was the most UNPROFESSIONAL, CONDESCENDING, SELF-ABSORBED JERK of an eye doctor I had ever been to. He didn't shut up the ENTIRE time we were there. The worst part is that I had gone to him once before and stopped going to him, but it was so long ago, I couldn't remember why I stopped; this was a clear reminder of it. Do NOT go to Dr. Satnick, unless you enjoy having someone lecture you the entire time about stuff that even goes against the manufacturer's recommendations...and don't take your children to see him, unless you want to see them cry. read more

Dr. Satnick is always a pleasure to see. I look forward to my eye exam as he has a wonderful way with patients and is a great conversationalist. I am consistently happy with the way I am treated and with the technology available for an optometrist's office. While the price is expensive for an optometrist, this is very appropriate for the machinery and technology available which some ophthalmologist offices don't even have. For someone concerned with things like cancer, glaucoma, tears, etc. that an ophthalmologist regularly checks for, this office also regularly checks to take modern photos of the eye and can even scan nerves in the eye to automatically tell what prescription your eyes are. The contact lens prices are normal, but the eyeglasses are all designer. The eye exam and the incredible treatment by the doctor, however, are top of the line, and the extra money is worth it. read more
