Waited over 6-weeks for an appointment for my son. Arrived at 3:35pm for 3:40pm appointment. At 4:50pm, we still had NOT seen Dr. Bell so we walked out. No one even noticed and we were the only ones in the lobby. No follow-up call. Absolutely unacceptable. read more

My office visit with Dr. Bell was one of the best experiences I have had with a physician. I had extensive eye watering and needed to see an ophthalmologist as soon as possible. I called on a Friday and was able to schedule an appointment the same day. Before being seen by Dr. Bell there was an issue with my billing. Some doctors might have turned me away. Dr. Bell saw me anyway. It is clear he cares about his patients. Dr. Bell meticulously examined my eyes and diagnosed me with a common eye infection and mentioned it was due to aging. Prescription eye drops were prescribed. In two days 100% of my symptoms were gone. He is very professional, has attention to detail, has great bedside manner, and has a high tech office. Well worth all the stars! Dr Bell and his staff go far a beyond. This office looks AMAZING and is nothing compared to what it was. The frame selection is amazing and Ivan the Optician is extremely knowledgable and makes your feel welcomed when you walk in. Every question I had he answered without skipping a beat. The atmosphere is very pleasant and the new decore is extremely nice. It makes you feel like your in a very very very upscale office in Beverly Hills. And for the ladies they carry Tiffany, Michael Kors and Tory Burch glasses. I highly recommend Dr Bells office if you need an eye exam or simply glasses. By far best place to pick up some nice glasses if you ask me! Got a eye exam at LensCrafters and I came by to look at frames via the reviews & I was not disappointed one bit! Met this wonderful young man, Ivan I believe who assisted me and showed me numerous kinds of frames and took his time to actually find out what I was looking and keeping me under my budget as well, not just trying to sell sell sell . Very professional staff ! Found my perfect frames for my face, it was all a easy process thanks to him ! SoOo not sure where to begin with this one. The service wasn't horrible, they were relatively nice. In terms of cleanliness, we were a little bothered by the fact that they don't provide a barrier between your face and the machine so it felt greasy and dirty and they didn't wipe it after either. The office was very cluttered and messy and the receptionist wasn't sure how to help with paperwork so we had to help her write things out. The doc was cool, not overly friendly but by no means rude, just doctorely. What made us uncomfortable with this place was staff conversation in which racial issues were being discussed and were pretty inappropriate. People are absolutely entitled to their opinions and belief systems, ignorant or not, it's just awkward when you're doing it in front of paying customers... My hubby is Asian and felt super awkward when the conversation loudly went from "illegal immigrants, to how Koreans are coming over and ruining everything". Granted the staff did not initiate the conversation, but the staff person chimed in about her beliefs, which racially called out specific groups of people and how "they've ruined America". Again, entitled to your opinion but was not the most professional experience, and I would expect a place of business to conduct themselves a bit more professionally. Maybe not talking about borderline racist beliefs in front of other customers/patients of different ethnicities. read more

If I could give no stars I would. Although the people were nice enough, they are scammers. I went in for a new pair of reading glasses and was up-sold on an extra "test" that they said VSP recommends but oh VSP doesn't cover that so you need to pay $49.00 yourself, then I was told I have dry eye and need Restasis 4 x a day and another steroid eye drop 2 x a day and oh BTW you can only get this from Dr. Bells special pharmacy and don't tell Kaiser about it because they will try and say I don't need it. I also supposedly need a procedure that is not yet approved by the FDA and oh BTW you have to pay $1,950.00 because insurance doesn't cover it and oh you will need follow up visits which I will only charge you $130.00 for! After his 1/2 hour long sales pitch which BTW he said he gives 20 times a day, he said " you help me and I will help you" that is a huge red flag coming from a medical provider!! They also gave me progressive lenses which made me sick because they were blurry and every time I turned my head it was like being on a roller coaster, I made several calls and they just kept telling me to just give them time, the lady there was like Oh I tried them on me and they were fine REALLY??they are supposed to be made for MY EYES not yours! Well I gave them almost two weeks and they still made me sick so I took them back and asked for single vision computer glasses which is what I had gone in there for in the first place. So now they will not refund for the progressive lenses and the single vision are still blurry, I took them and left because I have wasted too much of my time already. So bottom line, My "free" eye exam ended up costing me $222.00 and God knows how much they charged VSP, no wonder insurance costs are through the roof. I still have no glasses (that work). It took me 2 months for an appointment and then probably two to three weeks to get the glasses each time. If you don't like sales people you won't like this place. Next time I will go to Lenscrafters! read more

Absolutely the best ever!!!!!!!!!!! I've been a patient of Dr. Bell for 12-15 years. I first found his office on the way to dinner in the food court. My initial visit was for blepharoplasty. Since then he's done cataract and cornea transplant surgery on me. My previous opthalmoloigist in the Sacramento area didn't want to deal with the the fact that I had KC and prescribed glasses for my nearsightedness. Needless to say, there were mere fashion accessories. Upon moving back to Oceanside, I went to my dad's opthamologist, who could barely wait to finish my eye exam, write a prescription that no optician would fill, and send me on my way. Dr. Bell is a saint. He has never treated me like a leper because I have KC. He's worked tirelessly with me over the years to make positive and remarkable changes to my vision. I simply cannot recommend him highly enough. He doesn't fit rigid gas perm lenses, but he referred me to an optomotrist in Hillcrest who specialises in hard-to-fit patients. Dr. Bell is also up-front about letting you know if any procedure won't be covered by your insurance -- no unpleasant surprises. I have appointments every three months and actually enjoy going there; I'm treated like family. The only downside is negotiating S/B traffic on the 5 during fair and racing seasons, which is a small price to pay when you consider the overall picture. read more

I have zero complaints regarding my experience with Dr Bell. I had an incident with my daughter poking my eye with her thumb late in the afternoon during the week. Decided not to do anything about it then, with hopes that my eye would feel better. I was wrong. After a long, miserable night, I called Dr Bell's office first thing the next morning. To my surprise, they answered immediately. Despite his very busy schedule that day, he told me to come right in. After a very short wait, he took me back and within a few minutes I was feeling much better. He confirmed that I did have a nice scratch on my eye from my daughter. He gave me some steps for caring for it, as well as a contact bandage for comfort and healing. I felt a level of trust with him immediately. He knows what he's doing! I used this opthamologist for several years, but we had several problems with them that seem to indicate that profit trumps everything. Most recently, I had a prescription that was a year and a half old and his office refused to fax this prescription to Costco, where I wanted to purchase glasses (they also refused to give me *my* prescription, which I don't think they can do). His office claimed that it is California state law that optical prescriptions expire in one year, which is not true. California state law is that they expire in two years. It appears that they are doing this to ensure that you return for frequent visits. Further evidence of this was when the receptionist told me that Dr. Bell would consider a request for extending my present prescription beyond one year *if I purchased my glasses from them.* Obviously, they know it's not state law or they wouldn't suggest that they could extend the prescription (provided I purchase eyewear from them). Dr Bell and his staff are great! Dr Bell diagnosed a particular strain of an adenovirus in my eyes about two years ago. It is a very rare virus and apparently is often misdiagnosed due to its rarity. But he was able to correctly identify it and prescribed a recent breakthrough drug to kill it which prevented possible permanent damage to the retinas. He is very thorough and knowledgeable. And today he was able to schedule me at the last minute for another eye problem. The office was also just remodeled and is beautiful and comfortable. I would highly recommend him and his staff for all your eye care needs read more

I have had the pleasure of being treated by one of the best Ophthalmologists in this area! Dr. Bell is a stand out physician. He truly cares about his patients. Dr. Bell preformed my cataract surgeries and it couldn't be more outstanding! I chose multifocal lenses and now I don't need glasses! I am in total awe with his professionalism & that of his entire staff. I have been seeing Dr. Bell for about a year now & have absolutely NO complaints!
