The rooms are small and quaint with resemblance of Hawaiian culture, photographs and art. Dr. Fowler is very cool! He reviewed my medical history with me and discussed all my possible options as it relates to my health. He specializes in healthy lifestyle changes, eating habits as well as nutritional supplements. I had 7 doctors lined up for consultations on bbls. Dr Fowler was the fourth. The previous drs were not right for me. They focused on what they thought was "beautiful" rather than what i think is beautiful. I showed dr Fowler my wish pics and he said it was mainly doable and showed me all the fat he could harvest in order to make my dreams come true (not much but i already knew that). Dr Fowler was very thorough and is board certified and also has a board certified anesthesiologist which is important. I got lost looking for the building. For some reason i was looking for 923 and they are 928 Nuuanu. Parking sucks but thats the only thing. There are only about 7 street parking stalls. Id rather pay 17 dollars for parking and see Dr Fowler again than go to other doctors. He offered me more free consultations if i felt i needed them which was very generous. I called and megan answered promtly and professionally. She helped me quickly find the office without making me feel like an idiot. I came super early in the case of me getting lost and i didnt get too lost so i was really early. Megan said shed try to fit me in early which she did and dr Fowler came in straight away. The office is super clean and fresh feeling. It feels more like home than a surgical unit. Im really excited to get my bbl and even more excited that they have a groupon special for fat transfer. Dr. Fowler has literally saved my life! At 23 yrs old I weighed a whopping 379lbs! Yikes! I initially went to him in 2007 but at the time the nurse that worked for him was horrible and advised me to lose weight because otherwise they couldn't perform the surgery. I had lost all hope and thought she was so rude! Even after losing 15 lbs on my own she still quote told me I'm too "big"! Fast fwd a few months and they fired that lady and gained a new coordinator who was so sweet. Plus with more patient credit, Dr. Fowler's prerequisites changed to open up to other patients that were before told they'd have to lose weight to get the lap band. In 2008 I got the lap band and have since then lost 132lbs. I'm now able to hike, walk miles, fit the straps in the airplane, fit in booths no problem with space to spare... All these things that small people take for granted. Again, Dr. Fowler has saved my life! Since the surgery I've travelled the world and plan to continue doing that. My endometriosis cured itself and I have a normal period now (tmi).. I even got pregnant on my own in 9/2012; something I didn't think would happen without losing weight. Although I still have more to lose, getting the lap band has helped tons and working out is key! Dr. Fowler's always been there for me and I'd recommend him to anyone, he's wonderful! read more

This review is for Aloha Surgery, not Dr. Fowler specifically. Dr. Steven Fowler is supposed to be the best weight loss surgeon in the state. I wouldn't know ... it was too difficult to get past his rude and unhelpful office staff to schedule an appointment. I rated Aloha Surgery three stars because my initial contact was very encouraging and positive. The mandatory informational meeting I attended at Castle Medical Center was well organized and very informative. The video / slide-show and handouts were excellent. Dr. Fowler was personable and down to earth; he answered questions patiently and thoroughly. The dietician, Mary, also very kind and knowledgeable. Unfortunately, the next step involved contacting his office and speaking with Carol. She was rude and condescending. She took no initiative to help a potential patient navigate through a scary and confusing process. Her poor attitude took place over several phone conversations. I received more help and compassion from HMSA customer service representatives. My insurance company treated me with dignity and took time to problem solve and research my situation, something I would expect from an office I choose for a medical procedure. If others are thinking about weight loss surgery, do your research and know your options. Definitely check out Castle's Surgical Weight Loss Institute. For me, I couldn't get past the unnecessary struggle of getting my questions answered and the way I was treated. Words can't express how pleased I am with Dr. Fowler, his staff, and his overall program! I had been considering weight loss surgery (WLS) for a few years, but either my motivation eventually waned or my insurance wasn't the most helpful. It wasn't until I got to Hawaii that all the stars aligned for me to have surgery, so I extensively researched the different surgeries available and the different surgeons available in Hawaii. A current post-op patient of Dr. Fowler's had nothing but excellent things to say about him, so I decided to attend his informational session. Starting with that first informational session where Dr. Fowler gave a general overview of obesity, its various treatments (including non-surgical options), and the process required for a successful outcome, I came away feeling that I was in the right place. That feeling was further strengthened when I met other members of his team and learned how they all worked together to maximize the possibility of a successful outcome. Dr. Fowler's staff was very accommodating in terms of scheduling all the various appointments that are required before you actually get on the operating table. Their general desire is to have the surgery performed within 2-3 months of the informational session, but my schedule required about 6 months between the session and surgery. They were very helpful in helping me pre-plan the appointments and procedure to fit into my schedule. My Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy required a one-night stay in Castle Hospital, and my care there was excellent as well. Dr. Fowler was always available to answer questions, both during my stay and once I arrived home. My follow-up care was outstanding, and I truly looked forward to each appointment so that I could make sure my progress was on-track both in terms of my weight loss and my overall health and fitness. Mary, the registered dietician, was awesome in helping me find the right foods to fit my lifestyle and work-related needs yet still conform to the bariatric guidelines. Cindy, the exercise specialist, was equally accommodating in finding the exercises and routines that worked best for me. It is truly a team approach with Dr. Fowler and his staff, and I felt that from the very beginning. I'm less than two weeks again from my surgiversary (surgical anniversary) as I write this post, and I'm amazed at my transformation! My highest weight before surgery was 305 pounds, and I'm now at 172, for a total weight loss of 133 pounds. I haven't been this weight since seventh grade! I can't remember the last time I've had this much energy, and I'm still getting used to all the compliments from friends, family, and co-workers. I'm not going to lie: this surgery is A TOOL and not a cure-all. It requires hard work and dedication on the part of the patient to adhere to the guidelines and WANT to succeed. But there are numerous resources available to help you succeed, and it's up to the patient to use all of those to ensure success. My wife had her WLS done by Dr. Fowler and his team. WLS is a life-changing process and one of the most important parts of that change is a steady stream of quality vitamin supplements. Aloha Surgery has their own in-house brand and offers them at a reasonable rate even when they're not running any of a number of special deals to help patients keep a healthy supply. Dr Fowler and Megan are amazing!! I went in for Lipo of the tummy area yesterday. Obviously I cannot tell results yet due to swelling and these type of procedures take time to heal so I will update those results when I can.
