He is an excellent eye doctor. Sometimes the clientele in the office is a bit challenging to tolerate and the parking lot outside is filled with vagrants. I they like to wait near cars and ask you for money as you leave. I don't feel safe when people approach me uninvited... especially as I am trying to get into ky car. read more

Doctor Israel saved my life. I went in on my doctor's appointment on Monday and I found out that I had papilledema of the optic nerves in both of my eyes and he showed me my eyes and he said that I need to go see a neurologist or a neuro Ophthalmologist immediately. I made an appointment on Wednesday to see my regular doctor to get the referral and by Thursday my vision started getting to go very blurry and I had a horrible pressurized headache. I had to have two spinal taps to take off extra spinal fluid and I was hospitalized for eight days. If he hadn't given me that heads up, I'd never would've known that I had papilledema of the eyes and they would've never been able to diagnose me with IIH. Now I have to go see the neural Ophthalmologist, but I will always come here to get my eyes checked because he is absolutely amazing and again he saved my life and he saved my eye sight. The office is not the best location but I am so thankful he took medical patients. My daughter has an appointment in June. read more

Dr. Israel was my Optometrist for quite a few years, but next exam will be with a different doctor. I'm in my 70's, legally blind in left eye with G.A. My right eye Dry M.D. with G.A. developing. My main field of vision is peripheral vision. Arrived early, I asked the technicians that were chatting at end of Glasses counter, if I could look at the glasses? In a voice that was not necessary, " just tell me which glasses you want to look at and I will hand them to you!" Told Tech that if I could see them from the counter, I would be happy to tell them which I wanted to see. She replied 'We don't want customers to see other patients' information on computers!' I kind of chuckled because all 3 techs were at other end, talking. Other than me and the techs, no one was in lobby. No one was near computers, so why would screens still be on and have customer info showing? Before I could say anything, I was called back into the waiting hall. Assistant asked for my glasses then walked away. When she handed my glasses back, I could not believe how many finger prints she had left! I know I cleaned them before leaving home, they were not dirty when I gave them to her! Then, once called into room and before exam began, Dr started with his political outlook, praise for the current admin! Oh how bad it was he had to get Vaccinated to keep business open. How current admin this! How admin that! I felt like he was pushing me to agree with him. I should have left, but I wanted the Retina Scan to see how bad the eye damage was. After exam and Dr was walking me to front desk, I asked for a written copy of prescription. Looking a bit confused, Dr asked why I wanted a copy when 'We sell glasses here and your insurance covers glasses!' Once I got the copy, I just said I would buy glasses someplace I can actually look at the glasses. Smiled at the 3 techs still huddled together talking and walked out the door! My whole family and I went to get exams and select new glasses. Dr. Israel didn't see us this time around, but he had another optometrist (Asian Optometrist) give us eyes exams, and he was awesome! He was very knowledgeable and gave us good insight and directions on how to care for our eyes. Each of us worked with different eye technicians to help select our glasses, and we had the best time. It was a really fun experience. The team gave us great suggestions and listened to our preferences. We have gone to many optometrists, and this was definitely our favorite place to go. We will continue to choose Dr. Israel for our annual optometry exams. read more

I had lived 600 miles away, and recently moved back close enough to make it out for an eye check. Returned to Dr. Israel, this time with family in tow. He checked our two year old who loved the visit. He had great toys to keep him engaged, and my son liked getting to sit in the cool chair that went up and down. He also was very attentive with my husband, who had results that required additional tests to ensure they weren't troublesome. Turns out everything is good, but it was great for him to walk us through the results and show us what was causing the initial concern. The office was large, clean, and well kept. The staff was very friendly and really helpful, bringing tons of frames to try and helping us decide on what would look best and be most comfortable. We drive 45 miles to see Dr. Israel, and will keep doing the drive every year! read more

I understand the percautions they are taking due to the coronavirus. But they can't do a repair to your eyeglasses? Mind you I'm coming in to your facility by touching the door, using the pen that others used to sign in. Is it because repairs are free? If you are that concerned you should not be open. But you can continue to do exams. I like the Optometrist but the staff...the last time the same lady did not want to adjust my wife's glasses cause she was not there in person. read more

I've been taking my girl here for maybe about 5-6 years now and Dr. Israel is so good with them when he does their eye exams he always takes the time to explain everything to them and the time to get to know them. You can face a long wait sometimes. I've waited over two hours for an appointment. I'm an extremely patient person so when I reach the point of irritation, it's saying something. I'm also starting to get the nagging feeling that some of the ladies will push the more pricey glasses. The first time I was lucky and really happy with the pair that the woman helped me choose. The second time I felt like she talked me into a pretty expensive frame that I wound up being allergic to. I guess in the end it's good because it's forced me to become smarter about choosing frames. I can't really hold it against them because there is always going to be a business aspect to medicine or at least that's my opinion. Overall the staff is friendly and approachable though. They do the puff of air test to check your pressure. Just an aside: it's great if your pressure is in the single digits. Normal if it's in the low to mid teens. Start getting a little concerned if it's reading in the high teens to twenties. I don't always get seen by Dr. Israel, which I like the best. His exam room has pictures of his family and drawings done by his kids and he just seems like a kind, family guy. He's patient and thorough in answering your questions and is personable. The other optometrists that I've seen were more of a hit or miss. I got the feeling that I insulted one when I confessed that my dad made me attend a UC instead of the Cal States I got into. I remember he huffed a little and commented that Cal States were just as good and said so with a straight face. The other optometrists were younger. I've never had a problem with my prescriptions. read more

I dont usually write reviews. I brought my nine year old daughter here for an eye exam. First off, the doctor was amazing. Super nice and thorough. Very little wait time. The only problem was the optician. She calls my daughter's name and tosses a box of frames to the side for her to try on and says "here". Doesn't make any eye contact at all and says nothing else. Doesn't even look at us. Because I'm used to dealing with assholes and I work in the restaurant industry, I remain nice and polite. We didn't ask her advice or bother her for any reason except to hand her the frames we wanted. Why work with the public if you can't take 5 seconds of your time to smile at a mother and 9 year old picking out glasses without making them feel like their presence just annoys you? Stay home. There are plenty of friendly people who would love to have your job. read more

HORRIBLE customer service!!! The office staff has no idea what they are doing. If I can share some words of advice... DO NOT GO HERE. Ordered glasses for my son, waited two weeks (that's when they said they would be ready), went up there to pick them up (no phone call advising me that they were ready) and found out they never put the order in, waiting two more weeks (went back up there, still no phone call) and they said the glasses arrived earlier that week. Similar thing with my glasses, when I called to see if they were ready I was told they came in almost a month ago, but I didn't receive 1 phone call. I expressed my frustration with an employee. Throughout the last 15 years, most of the time I have had HMOs and I never use the vision coverage and opt to pay out of pocket to continue to use Dr Israel - yes he is that wonderful! From the moment I made my first appointment for myself and my son it has been a breeze. The staff was very helpful and prompt. I had to reschedule and they didn't blink an eye and when we did go in to see the doctor everyone there was so friendly and incredibly helpful. Dr. Steven Israel is a wonderful Dr. Very compassionate and takes the time to have a conversation with you and makes you feel at home. He's really good at explaining everything and answers all your questions and doesn't seem like he's trying to rush me out of his office. I have been coming to him for a very long time and he's the only person I trust with my eyes. Years ago I got a really bad eye infection they were completely booked but they were able to squeeze me in for an emergency and Dr. Israel was so kind and fixed me up in no time. I went in to this office today to get my daughter glasses. Once inside the girls were VERY rude and told me my daughter had to be there for me to buy her glasses. I am an optician and I know for a fact my daughter did not need to be there as long as I had her measurements(which I did)... I'm glad to say that I will be taking my business elsewhere.. I have been going to community vision center for the past couple years. My experience this year was the best year out of all the years I have been a patient at community vision center. Martha is beyond nice she was a very respectful and helpful young lady she was first to great me and help me thru my whole visit she even helped me choose the perfect glasses she made my experience this year very comfortable. She also made me feel like I was appreciated for my dedication to this office. Plus The Doctors are Very Good. I'll be back next year! read more

My family had our eyes examined here a few months ago. I was not able to get glasses then because the 2 years required by my insurance had not passed. Today I went back to pick out some frames. At first I felt like they were not going to have time for me, but the woman was so focused on trying to fit me in that as soon as she did she was so nice and warm. She worked with my budget and didnt try to over sell me. I picked a pair of glasses and the guy who makes them was there. So after paying I had my new glasses on my face in less than 10 minutes. I dont have a strong prescription so I just got plastic lenses. My insurance charges a $30 copay and the frames were $30 over my allowence. I payed $60 for a pair of Ray-Bans. We used to go to AV Optimetric and have had very bad experiences waiting for glasses the past two times I ordered. My mom has been going to Dr. Israel for years so I took a chance and I am very happy. read more
