The food was very good. The club sandwich is huge and the fish was DELICIOUS!! We all wish we had ordered it.

Steven's Gap is located in an unassuming little building that didn't even look like a restaurant to me. From the outside it could've been an antique store or a bait shop. If not for the small sign by the road, I would've driven by it. But lo and behold, once you enter the door, you'll see that there really is a restaurant inside. The dining room was cozy, but clean. We saw a good mix of locals and visitors during our visit. The servers were sweet and attentive. We ordered catfish dinner, chicken liver and chicken tenders. The portions were huge. Everything was fried to perfection. I was looking forward to the catfish after reading all the reviews. To be honest, it was not The Best I've tasted, but it's ranking pretty high up there. Talk about a hidden treasure! This restaurant is so insanely good! The staff is friendly despite the restaurant being very busy and they take adequate time to make sure you're all taken care of! Yeah, idk. It's pretty pain Jane food. And some, what I'll call "home cookin" hospitality goin on there. I ordered breakfast. Just eggs and bacon, traditional breakfast. I asked for biscuits and gravy. The waitress said they were out of biscuits, so I got toast. Np. Except the local guys that came in about 10 mins after we got our food ordered biscuits and gravy and her she came out with 4 plates of it for the good 'ol boys. What the heck?? Our waitress was nice but never checked on us, never gave us but 1 set of silverware. The slaw had way too much onion in it. The catfish was good the fries were perfect crispy but meaty inside, the pintos were very tasty. The hushpuppies were very greasy my husband and I didn't care for them. The shrimp was okay but I didn't care for so much breading. I had to go ask my waitress for a to go box and a cup for my tea. We probably will never go back! Several people recommended this place, and sure glad we went! The waitress recommended chicken fried steak, and it definitely the best I've ever had. They have at least 5 different pies and 5 different cakes, all made in house. I had the Italian Cream cake, and it was so good we came back the next day to take some home to our families ! Out fishing guide recommended this place for good down home cooking and he was right. My husband got the chicken fried steak. It was very good. Their cream gravy is very flavorful and the coating on the steak was too. I got the friend butterfly shrimp with pinto beans, hush puppies, coleslaw and onion rings. Shrimp was fresh and cooked perfectly. Onion rings were excellent. Coleslaw was delicious and pinto beans were good. Hush puppies were decent. My son got the kids corn dog and fries and said their fries were very good. Service was friendly and fast. read more

We came here for brunch and ordered breakfast. The food was awful! My husband's omelet had burnt bacon and sausage. This is an older restaurant and that's fine, but they need to do a better job cleaning. The tables were filthy as well as the utensils they provide. I'm very disappointed because we've come here before and had a great experience but now I'm very sadden to say we will never dine here again when we're in town. read more

So disappointing. Read previous reviews and thought it would be so much better. Trying to get seated was a nightmare. The waitress kept seating only the big parties and then waiting on them. The other waitress did not help with anything but her tables. Finally got seated.. took forever to get our drinks and order because our waitress kept focusing on the big table and checking people out while the other waitress took new tables coming in. Food was cold because our waitress kept checking people out instead of bringing our food! Yes, it was busy but if your cooks are hanging out at the window talking as well as your bus girls. Last day on vacation and we wanted a quick breakfast. Not many options but saw good reviews here. Got here about 9am on a Sunday and place was almost full but still plenty of room. Friendly waitresses and nice also. The menu is limited but pretty standard for a cafe/diner. We both had omelettes. I saw cinnamon toast on the menu and had to try it. Glad we did! It was amazing and took me back to childhood. The omelettes ( I had sausage/cheese and she had ham/cheese ) were really good. Hashbrown was in patty style and good. Biscuit and gravy was ok but the gravy was a little plain. All and all it was simple but good. All that plus two cups of coffee for $18. Only down side was we be to go back because the young girl that checked us out added someone else's ticket and charged us $32. Didn't think she run the card but realized she did. No big deal we just swung back by and had them correct it. read more

In Hochatown for a guided fishing trip on the lake during COVID-19. No indoor dining was allowed anywhere so we decided on a burger from Steven's gap and too it back to our cabin. I had the regular burger with onion rings. If you like onion rings, oh my gosh,these are some of the best I've ever had. My burger was also very, very good. We topped our meal with homemade coconut cream pie. It was excellent as well. You'll hear a lot about other trendier places in Hochatown to grab a meL, but for my money, Steven's gap is a place I will definitely go to again. read more

This little restaurant was very good for breakfast. If you don't get there before 8:30-9 am then you will have to wait. If you like pancakes then I'd go here and bring your appetite. They are as big as the plate. There were only a couple of waitresses, so getting refill and such was a little slow, but not terrible. We would go back. read more

We did not plan on having dinner here. We went to the other "hot spot" (think pizza) and the wait was over two hours. Our group pivoted to Steven's Gap and was seated quickly. The server was incredibly kind and attentive. The menu had plenty of variety for our group of adults with 5 kids. Our pickiest eater was pleased with the all day breakfast option. The side salad had very crisp, fresh leafy green lettuce. The beans and hushpuppies meal received high marks. Its a small little place but don't let the outside fool you. Stop into Steven's Gap. Me and my hubby were visiting from Texas for our honeymoon and we were looking for a great burger restaurant and we thank God we found one! Cheeseburgers were absolutely impact-fully great and their chipotle ranch with sweet potato fries were the best! Make sure to try the sauce it'll make your meal even better! Our server was nice which was great but honestly would be a lot more great to see some smiling faces in this place, it would really liven the place up and the atmosphere would feel a lot more welcoming. But would definitely recommend this place, just make sure to smile at your waitress to let her know she's doing a great job and that life is beautiful because God loves us all. read more

We stopped on our way out to go home. I walked in and the staff just looked at me asked if they could help me. I said 2 and they said to go have a seat anywhere. There was no sign that said to seat yourself or wait. One had a tad of an attitude... The food is ok at best. Pretty basic... we got an omelette and it comes with American cheese. No option for cheddar unless you want to pay more. It definitely wasn't worth $7.75. Our biscuits were burnt on the bottoms and just crumbled when we cut into them. The gravy was really good though! The waitress did get nicer... we thought that maybe she got overwhelmed with everyone coming in at once. So the rating has nothing to do with the staff, just the food. read more

We were looking forward to trying a different place in Hochatown and were so disappointed with the service (due to unfriendly server) and the food (most of it seemed frozen, except beans and they were bland, fries were cold, ketchup tasted sour). The pies looked amazing but no one offered and we were too leery to ask. I hope they read this and make some improvements.....Hochatown needs all good the restaurants they can get. read more
