It took a very long time to get my lunch order which was a salad and baked potato. The potato was under cooked but the salad was fresh and good. The service was fair but the waitress said a cook had walked out. I've been in the food service industry for many years in my prior jobs so I understand being short staffed. Great little diner! Came here for breakfast with my large family of 7. Staff was very friendly and got us sat really quick. It was pretty busy, especially after we sat down. The food took about 20 min to prepare and be brought out. Which for a table of 7, isn't bad at all! The breakfast I ordered was really good. Pancakes are huge! Only complaint I have is how small the place is because of the amount of tables they have shoved in there. Which limits the amount of standing room, so as more and more people come in and are standing to wait, there is random people standing over your shoulder as you are trying to eat. Our food set up on the kitchen window long enough that it was barely warm when we finally received it. My wife's Chicken Fried Steak was so salty that she couldn't eat it. Great breakfast at a little, local diner! The kids had the HUGE pancakes and I had a breakfast sandwich. I typically don't like pancakes but these were fantastic, didn't even really need butter or syrup. The egg on my sandwich was cooked to perfection and was served with breakfast potatoes. My only complaint would be that the three waitresses spent more time sitting together at a table chatting with one another than waiting on their tables - I had get our waitress' attention for a refill and our check. One of the people in our party wanted orange juice but was informed they were out, and that was a little after 11 am. Never got refills on our drinks of water and she never noticed we were just sucking on ice. Asked for refills but never came out with our refills. Pretty small place to have that many people in there with only 3 gals serving the whole restaurant. The catfish didn't have much flavor on my buddies plate. The omelet my other buddy got he said it was lacking enough meat and veggies in it. I got the chicken fried steak and it came out overdone and burnt but we were so hungry didn't want to complain. The regular food here was ok. I ordered the chicken tenders and they were bland. I also got the loaded baked potato and fried okra for my sides. The baked potato wasn't soft and the okra needed to be seasoned more. My husband order the chicken sandwich. It came grilled on a bun. Warning: they use miracle whip instead of real mayo! The potatoes were colder than room temperature (may have been served straight out of the bag), the omelet was so cold the cheese wasn't even melted, the biscuit was just above room temperature (but hard) and the gravy was just above room temp. Could not eat it. Would have sent it back but didn't have another 45 minutes to kill; needed to get on the road. Always a solid experience with Steven's Gap! This time we came in to what seemed like a late dinner....considering we were alone in the restaurant. Apparently the restaurant recently extended weekend hours one hour and apparently the public has not caught on, nor has Yelp! We had good meals, prepared quickly, friendly staff and attentive without feeling like they were rushing us out the door. Servers and other workers were staying busy while they prepared for anymore patrons. My only not would be to be sure they advertise the extended hours. Food is too good and servers would prefer to make more if they have to stay the extra hour on a Friday and Saturday night....IMO. read more
