I've tried a few tire places around Santa Cruz usually it's about 15 - half hour (or longer) just to get seen, and the vibe isn't great. Steve's 76 was the complete opposite. I pulled in with a tire that needed a quick repair, explained the issue, and about five minutes later I was back on the road. No hassle, no runaround just someone who jumped on it and did the job right. The guy who helped me was and friendly and kind and easy to talk to, generous with his time, always smiling and he made me feel totally comfortable. If you need it done, you need it done fast. This Union 76 gas station is conveniently located at the corner of two major streets. It is very easy to get in and out of the gas station. The gas pumps are clean and all working. The price is reasonable in the area. It is not far from the shopping and dining area. I have often used this gas station when I'm in the area. read more

If you have a camper van it's fine- anything bigger it's a back in and a small space. Usual snacks and mini mart. This location is near the one highway. read more

This is the best gas station ever. Why do I say that? Because Milo works there. Milo is my hero. I have a 2020 Thor tranquility Mercedes sprinter 4 x 4 and for some reason my propane tank would not fill. I was boiling water to take a shower on a portable cooktop. After spending so much on a van that you expect to work and having almost everything that work is very frustrating and because I am a newbie I don't really know what to do. I tried to fill my tank up six different times and I had so much anxiety because they could not accomplish this task and the propane places are just not easy. I had so much anxiety I was waiting to pull into a spot but I did not want to block a camper van that was getting propane with an old man driving. Just as the old man was pulling out I put my car in reverse to back into a spot when this bustle head jerk pulls in to the spot and see Eaze I was waiting and that he was blocking me and laughed. His girlfriend or wife look mortified. I had to back in a different way and with my anxiety I put the car in park but I guess I did not push the button all the way and earlier that day my entire dashboard went blank so I could not verify the car is in park. The car rolled backwards into a tow truck! Broke my back window and pushed in my bike rack. Milo was incredible. He was so helpful. He was very caring and kind. The tow truck driver was also awesome and I didn't see any damage on his car and he actually helped sweep up the glass which was so thoughtful. I was frozen in fear afraid to drive and Milo was just nice. He helped me figure out what to do and I was able to cardboard out the back window. But I didn't explain how awesome Milo is. Milo suggested that I go to the hardware store and buy WD-40 and spray the coupling that connects to the propane machine. I did this and he was able to fill up my tank! I was so worried I was going to have to get a new propane tank and be without propane for months. Milo is incredible and he is such a great employee. Steve 76 is very lucky to have him! read more

The people here work hard. At least I think they do judging by the cleanliness of the gas station and how well-stocked the shelves are. They have an RV dump, so this will be the only gas station I will stop at in Santa Cruz. Apple Pay at the pump is nice. Considering my fill-ups are almost $100 and we spent $25 in the convenience store, if the RV dump was free I'd score this station 5 stars. read more

These guys are so amazing!! All of the staff here are beyond friendly! They work feverishly all day keeping this facility clean for all of is us to use. The vacuums that keep the place clean are running more times than not when I come in. The bathroom is ALWAYS clean. As a tradesman out in the field, we relay on public restrooms and I can count on one hand the limited number of stations with clean restrooms (and facility) that are appealing to use in our day and this one I will travel to specifically because I KNOW the restroom will be clean. It is a single use restroom and I'll gladly wait for it. Thank you to all the staff here that keep this place clean for us continuously all day, I mentioned it to you all directly and want the world to know if your ever in the area, please stop by and grab tank of gas or some snacks from Steve's. You won't be let down. They even mop the concrete gas bays throughout the day outside. It's insane how much these folks do to keep this place clean. I rate this station one of the top in the county for cleanliness, friendliness, and a well taken care of facility. Susie was so extremely helpful when I was having a helluva night. My mom is in the ER and because of COVID they don't let anyone in... so needless to say I am a little stressed. I needed a bathroom,, gas,, and snacks for the long wait. Susie was super kind and nice. Not only to me, but there was a customer in front of me that had an issue with the previous person on shift and I overheard her interaction with him. Review based on my experience with having my propane tank refilled on the spot. After some research as to "where I could get a refill on my 5lb propane tank" I found Steve's 76. I have ran into issues with other businesses that will not fill up a small tank, It was no issue at all with Steve's 76! Packed my car this morning to head to see family out of town for Easter when I noticed my left rear tire was flat. On Easter. 9am, dogs in the back, planning to be gone for the day. Ugh. Frustration! My compact spare looks like a bike tire, so I wouldn't trust that for the drive. I was worried I'd miss spending that special day with family until Steve's 76 returned my call telling me they were available all day. So grateful for Daniel's competence and kindness! I reported this same individual back in January doing the exact same thing in the same spot. Great example of following the signs on the property. Long time customer, I stopped in on 5/30/21 @3:40pm for a propane refill. An employee came out from behind the propane shed with a leaf blower at full blast and dusted myself and my newly washed car. He also dusted the car next to mine. I asked him to hold up a bit but he continued. The dust then caught 4 cars at the pumps. The clerk inside ignored my complaint. Worst service ever!! All the attendants were RUDE and unhelpful. The manager/owner "Steve" is shady and I known to have habits of over charging people for things. My cousin accidentally drove off with the hose still attached to her car. They said no problem, it happens about once a week. They charged her $275 all together to get it fixed. When she called her insurance company, they told her to go back and get an itemized receipt because that seemed like way too much money. They charged her for a hose and the nob that attached to the gas unit, but there was NO damage to the hose so they should not have charged her for that. When she went back to ask for a receipt, she asked to see the manager and they told her he wasn't there, even though she clearly saw him outside. She said she knew he was outside so the attendant reluctantly called him over. The manager was rude, didn't give her the time of day, was working on other things and not paying her any attention, and then proceeded to yell "I hate it when people call me a crook!" .... No one ever called him a crook, he said that himself. All she wanted was a receipt! He was disrespectful, vulgar and and all around unhelpful. Won't be going there again. We showed up to Steve's 76 at 940 pm with a dire need for a repair for our tire. The place had a sign that stated they closed at 10 pm. When we went in to get the service for a flat tire repair the guy stated they were closed. I asked the man if he could please help us because we had an hour drive home, he said no that he had other things he had to close up and he couldn't help us. There is a saying in sales that it "take years to build a relationship and 10 minutes to ruin it". I had such an experience very recently at this service station. I had been a very long time customer of this 76 Station dating back to when I arrived in Santa Cruz County in 1977. I always found the place to be clean, competitive in price, always open for service and easy to get to being just off the Highway 1 Freeway. All of these facts are still true. But, what ruined my future patronage of this business was one employee. I went into the station to have my propane tank filled. Being that there is a covid 19 pandemic outbreak I was expecting the employees to wear a mask. The service person at the propane tank had a mask but was not wearing it properly unless you call dangling from one ear, wearing a mask. He filled my tank and went to hand me the receipt to pay the bill, I asked him to place the tag on the tank. He was 2 feet away and clearly not practicing any social distancing, especially with the mask dangling from his ear. I asked him to either leave so I could pick up the tank or put the mask on. He became very irritated and began screaming that we were outside and he did not need to wear the mask. I asked him again to wear it or leave the area and he called me an obscene name twice as I finally went over and picked up the tank. I am 69 years old and everything the CDC says about covid 19 and my age group requires us to be very careful. Well, I will never go back to that station again. I will find another gas/propane station that respects wearing masks and practices social distancing. read more

Come here for propane every summer. They "round up" the gallons. When I gently asked about this, the attendant became furious and insulting. The clerk behind the counter said "we always round up" and "how could we calculate that, it's decimals?" I'll drive up to the place on mission next time. read more

Service was really bad. I went put gas and I even look the number where I have to put my gas twice which is gas number 2. So I went inside and pay for it I told the cash register I want to put gas in number 2 and I even repeated myself twice, she smile at me so I thought she understood me... I even felt like stupid because I told her twice but it seems like the cashier did not understand what I told her, the other cashier was even laughing... I go to put gas in this gasoline station for my 8 yrs working at the hospital never have a problem. So when I went to pump my gas it's not pumping and went inside again and tell the cashier it's not pumping in number 2 so she was doing something to the register and I thought she fix it or something and she said "si" so I thought she understand me, I went back to pump gas nothing... so I went back again she give a hand sign to wait & she's calling her manager.... The cashier did not even talk to me either she's nodding her head or her hand signal.... So the manager came and I think this manager is really rude, this is the first time I see him here on the gasoline station. He said that I told the cashier I want to put gas in pump #3 and I said no I did not not I told her pump # 2 and I even told her twice and the other cashier was laughing because he know what I'm talking about but he's doesn't want to witness of course he doesn't want to be involve and lost his job... so I told the manager to review the camera he said he will but not right now he want to review it the next day he's not even busy why he can't do it that moment to see what really happen. And he doesn't want me to wait or doesn't want to give my money back. Is it my fault if the cashier don't speak or understand English? And he was talking to me so rude and told me he will pay out of his pocket but not going back there anymore.... What a service is that, after 8 yrs going to this gasoline station. read more

Literally the cleanest gas station I have ever been at! What is going on here??? I love it and I am not at all passionate about gas stations. Bathroom was clean too. We came in for a quick bathroom break and fill up. Left with tea and a cup of coffee. Staff was friendly too. Seriously I hope the owners read this. We were there on Black Friday at 3:30pm. Just stopped by to get a nail patched in my tire. Well, the gentlemen that helped me actually found a leak in another spot. So not only did he fix what wheel works wouldn't( and no, it wasn't on the side wall, it was almost in the middle section of tread), he also took the time to make sure there were no other spots, and fixed the ones he did find. 25$ and I'm off to the road trip I had planned!! The air hose was all taped over like it has been for a while, but, now the air pressure pop- up gauge is not working . I asked the fellow who works there about it and he said " It's broken" which is obvious . I asked if he had a gauge and he said he didn't which is a lie since they fix flats . Instead of letting me borrow his gauge , he told me to go into the convenience store and buy one . There's a slap in the face for a ( former) 30 + year customer for you ! I came here to fill up on my half empty Honda fit. It was around $20. I checked my balance on my card and saw I was charged about $90!!! Even on an empty tank it's at most $40, but $90!!! I reported it right away. So definitely not using my card on the pumps or even the store. What if it's an inside job? read more

This gas station is close to my house and I always choose to get gas here. They have plenty of gas pumps and a great little mini mart. They have a huge beer section which is cool because it can get a little hard to find those select beers around here. They offer a service station which is always busy so I assume they must be worth it in that section. read more

WORST PLACE to get auto work done.. They installed a broken/used water pump and claimed it to be brand new... My car was not fixed and I was not able to even drive it home from the shop... They refused to refund my $500.00+ and I had to pay a different auto shop an additional $700 to get another water pump installed.. The second shop confirmed that Steve's Union had installed a old broken pump and did bad work on top of that. The guy who worked on the car at Steve's Union also made creepy sexual comments to my girlfriend, but after she complained about his work he said she was "a stupid fucking little girl that doesn't know what she is talking about" . This place is shady and extremely unprofessional when it comes to the auto work and the mechanics they have working there. Don't take your car there!!! read more

Unbelievable I would post a 5 star review for a gas station/convenience store, but after traveling the northern to southern CA route so many times, with so many stops at icky gas stations for a restroom and a snack, I can honestly say this was the best stop. Snack selection was what you'd expect, but restrooms were spotless, and perhaps most of all (really the tipping point for me to decide to review a gas station convenience store) was the cashier -- professional, courteous and friendly. It's Christmas Eve morning and something happened to the steering on my truck. I left a message on their answering service this morning about my truck. Never expected to hear from them until after Christmas. Dan called at 1:10 PM and offered to come by and look at my truck to diagnose it. He was at my house 10 minutes later and told me my power steering pump was leaking. At this point there was fluid on the ground under the pump. There was no power steering fluid in the holder. He took my trucks information and has returned to the station. He's going to give me a call with the price and best of all he will come to my house on Tuesday and fix it in my driveway!!! There is a Santa Claus! I've had a lot of stuff go wrong lately & could cry right now. So grateful. This was above and beyond on a holiday weekend. read more

Went to Steve's with a flat tire. They plugged it instead of patched it because it was "faster". It ruined my tire and I had to replace it. When I went in to talk to Steve about the incident he wouldn't even come out of his office to meet me, or look at the plug job. He spoke to me over the phone and said the only thing he was willing to do was "sell me a set of tires". Poor business and attitude! Plugging a flat tire ruins the tire and customers should be made aware of this PRIOR to fixing it that way. read more

Be careful if you use credit cards at this gas station something's wrong with their computers. Two of their pumps will not read my credit cards. Like a fool I went back after having problems before and I had the same problem. I went down the street and use my credit card at another gas station. Steve is a jerk. Brought my car in for timing belt replacement. After, heard a rattle sound, so looked at timing belt cover and it was cracked and missing a bolt! Took it back in to ask him to fix what his shop broke, and he gave ME attitude as if I shouldn't bother him over his messed up work! This is the cleanest and sanitized service station I have ever seen. All employees are extremely helpful. The service bay does excellent work, they have been working on all of my vechicles including my children's for years. I understand that Steve has been employed in this industry for approx. 40 yrs.
