Update 7/20/17** Someone had my review of Steve's ATV review removed claiming that its part of another business. This is the exact same business, same address, and same website. -- After some bad luck of our own and mechanical issues, we decided to rent a RZR S from Steves in Winchester Bay to salvage our weekend. The guys in the store Ed and Thomas were great. They brought out the machine for us and got us setup. I rented the machine for 4 hours, paid the $500 deposit, as well as paid $50 for the premium machine insurance coverage. 10 minutes into cruising out on the sand, the machine stripped a belt and left us stranded. While in 4WD as recommended, and not running it hard whatsoever. I called Ed whom said he would be on his way to come get it. 95 minutes of sitting in the sand, facing 30+ mph winds blasting sand in our face got old really quick. They showed up and said they could replace the belt for us, however with how the machine was performing, along with a sticker on the dash saying that the next scheduled service was due at 238 hrs, the meter on the RZR showed 249 Hrs... The machine was over 10 hours overdue for service. I told the guys that I no longer wanted to ride the machine, and wanted them to take it back to the shop and I wanted a refund for my 4 hour rental as I did not trust the machine with my life in the seat of a poorly maintained machine. They said ok and that the would check with the office. I hitched a ride with another friend in a rail and headed in to see the guys at the shop. Upon arriving, Ed was just finishing pulling the old belt off, and he did say that it was an worn out belt that just "let go" and was not anything I did. Once inside the shop after ed spoke to a manager, they refused to issue us a refund and instead only offered a gift certificate for another 4 hour rental. We then went on in to Hauser to the main store location to speak to this manager directly. Cynthia Johnson met us at the counter, and we explained to her why we would not accept a gift certificate and did not feel safe renting a machine that was not serviced properly, and that after nearly 2 hours of being sand blasted from the wind while stranded, we did not want the machine. She continued to refuse to work with us at all, saying that the contract refuses refunds on early returns, regardless of Steve's negligence on renting out poorly maintained machines which can break down and leave the riders stranded. I pleaded with her explaining that an unhappy customer in the tight knit duning community spreading poor reviews would be a worse outcome than refunding our money. I asked to see her manager, and or the owner of the company. She said that she was the only manager. I then asked what is the name of the owner of the company, she snidely pointed to the front door and simply said "steve." This of course angered me further with her smart a$$ answer to my question, however I did not raise my voice in the slightest nor use any obscenities, yet still Cynthia went on to threaten to kick me out of the store and said that she had the right to refuse service to anyone. I had enough and did leave the store voluntarily as my friend continued to speak to her and had no choice but to accept the gift certificate as otherwise we would have paid $439 for 10 minutes of riding. I met up with Ed in the morning and we went over a new contract for the new day. The gift certificate was written to replace the 4 hour ride, and our $500 deposit was still being held over from the previous day. However I had to pay an additional $50 for the insurance. They claimed that the fee I paid the previous day was done and gone, and I had to pay the fee yet again. Again no help in the slightest from the company. I declined the insurance, and took the machine to the sand. The service sticker, was cleverly cut off at the old number, and in place a post it note with the number "269" was printed on it with some scotch tape over it. Apparently it was serviced just that quick. I idled it around the dunes for the most boring 4 hours I have ever spent on the sand, it ran like a gutless golf kart on mud tires. ( I know RZR's that are properly maintained can be rather quick, and run like a champ, this one however was pathetic) I returned the machine in perfect condition as I didn't dare put a single scratch in the machine for fear of having to deal with this company any longer. They picked it up said the machine looked just fine and we parted ways. I wasted several hours of my life and over $400 dealing with this horrific company with some of the worst customer service I have ever seen. From one long time duner to another, please at all costs, avoid this place like the plague and don't shed one tear when the day comes that this place succumbs to bankruptcy from an extremely long list of customers like myself that have been royally shafted whom then spread the word about them to never do business with them and let their company starve to death... read more

This was the third time I went with a group to rent from Steve's ATV. There are a couple locations, the one I went to most recently was the Oregon Dunes location. In previous years, we had an overall good experience- besides having our reservations given to someone else due to an employee error. This time, of the seven ATV's our group rented, 4 ended up getting swapped out. 3 atv's became unusable to the point where going over a small dune was impossible, and the fourth had issues of dying while idling. As a couple of our riders were new to ATVs, at first we assumed it was user error. After swapping ATVs to more experienced riders, it became apparent the ATVs were in need of repairs. We ended up spending the vast majority of our two hour rental period waiting for replacement ATVs to be brought out. The employees were very apologetic, and even admitted that the ATVs were in bad condition. After getting back to the rental area, we understandably asked for a refund. We were only offered vouchers for a free hour of ATV riding, even though we had just spent at least an hour and a half dealing with ATV issues. This wouldn't have been so bad if management offered at least a partial refund, but they refused completely. A voucher was also useless to us as we live in another state and don't know if we'll be in the area again and had plans for the rest of the trip. I highly recommend avoiding Steve's as they obviously have no regard for customers or their experience. read more

I went with a group of 7 people and about 15 minutes into riding, one of the machines broke down. We had to wait for them to bring us a new one and about 10 minutes later that one broke down too. Out of the 7 ATVs in our group, 4 of them ended up breaking down while several others had problems such as randomly shutting down in the middle of riding. We spent most of the time stranded in the sand, waiting for them to bring us new ATVs. We were pretty upset about this and asked whether any sort of refund would be given and were informed that nobody is ever given refunds for bad experiences. When we finally made it back to the rental place, they told us we could only get a coupon for a free one hour ride for another time. I don't know what good that does - I was happy enough to be back from our 2 hours stranded in the sand dunes; I really didn't want to be stuck for another hour. I understand they can't give a full refund but we would have appreciated at least a partial one. read more

We went in the day before riding to do the required paperwork, which takes about 20 minutes unless you have an off road permit, and watch a video. Heather and Jim made them both really easy and answered all of our questions. We came back the next day to friendly smiles and "are you ready for some fun?". After Jim familiarized us with the ATV'S and gave us specific directions about where to go and what to do, we were on our way. For 2 hours we frolicked on the beach, dunes and whoop-dees! We were beat when we came back but could not wipe the smiles off of our salty faces (bring glass cleaner for goggles/glasses!)! Mechanic(?) Charles came over and added some interesting riding stories to round out our afternoon of pure fun. If I could add another star to the rating, I would! Ride the Oregon Dunes with these guys cos I would do it again (when I am through being sore)! read more

We camped at the KOA next door (Also Steves I think) for the solar eclipse. Took a day for the dunes and rented units at Steves ATV Rentals. The service was great. Kaylyn (sp??) was a pleasure to deal with, super helpful and attentive to all of our questions. The Dunes are incredible and the "toys" we rented were spectacular, we'd never done this before and they took their time to explain everything. One suggestion though for other renters, get the bigger units because the 250cc units got stuck in the sand of the dunes. Otherwise 100 % satisfaction. Very pleased with our decision to ride the dunes. read more

We had to find something to do with a couple pre-teen boys and this was perfect. They were able to ride their own ATV's! We had so much fun on the beach and riding in the dunes, but we became hopelessly lost on our way back. A good Samaritan took pity on us and showed us the way. There are no markers to tell you which way to go, and it all starts looking the same after a while. In the end, it was definitely worth every penny, and they had very cool stuff for sale in the store. We will probably rent for longer next time, we didn't have time to see everything in two hours. Amazing time and the entire staff was awesome! Being a 1st timer I had a ton of questions and the girls inside were very patient, explained the different vehicles and their rates, nice sense of humor, and got us out quickly. David and Shane (or was it Sean?) were great at showing us how to operate the 570 quad. Extremely patient, thorough, and didn't make us newbies feel dumb for not knowing much about ATVs. Then we hit the beach and had a fantastic time!!! Next time we'll go for longer but couldn't have asked for a better experience or staff! Thank you! read more

We're from California and randomly saw this shop on the way back, so we decided to stop and check it out -- safe to say it was one of the best spontaneous decisions we've made. The staff were super friendly and welcoming, and the trail was way better than we expected. We left super satisfied. Definitely worth checking out if you're passing by Or In the area!!! read more
