My parents had been customers of Steve's Alignment for over 30 years. They continued to remain customers after Charles bought the business because he was honest, transparent, professional and prompt. Steve's delivered quality and professional repairs on many cars for my parents and our family over the years. I would wager our family has spent tens of thousands of dollars over the decades at Steve's. As of today, we are all done and want to warn others. My nephew was overcharged and had mystery charges that Jeff, the new "general manager" refused to clarify. Jeff is rude, unprofessional in demeanor and presentation, and not at all general manager material. He is the stereotypical dishonest mechanic. I suspect he's strong arming Charles in a bid to either tank or take over the business. A small mechanic shop does not need a "general manager." All it takes is one bad apple to ruin a business, and that bad apple is, without a doubt, Jeff. Buyer beware. Jeff does not give a toss about this staple Longmont business, nor its customers. This general manager only cares about lining his pocket by hook or crook. There are some veteran owned mechanic shops in town. I will be encouraging my parents and our family to seek those businesses out. I wish Charles the best, but until he gets rid of Jeff Steve's is cooked. read more

Good work is not cheap and cheap work is not good. I have found my forever mechanic shop. These guys are straight forward, honest and do a really great job. My old truck hasn't ran better in quite some time. Not sure what is up with mechanics these days not excepting older vehicles but these guys do it all. read more

I wanted to like this place, but we had an incident. It is rather lengthy but in a nutshell: We brought our Ford station wagon to a different auto place, Auto Import Doctor (yeah, we're mad at them too) to get our dead battery replaced. They replaced our battery and then told us how we had all these other problems. Crap. Not what you want to hear. Specifically, they said we had broken coils (typical for Ford wagons) and something else that is escaping me at the moment. They quoted me some obscene price: 1200, maybe. Ack! So I decided to take it to Steve's for a second opinion. We specifically told them to look at the coils. They get back to us and let us know that there is NOTHING wrong. Okay. So here I am wondering if Auto Import Doctor is trying to rip us off or if Steve's is inept. gah. I get a recommendation for a 3rd place: a Meineke up on Main. We give them our story, they look at the coils -- completely rusted and broken! Even we could see. But the other stuff that Auto Import Doctor said was needing work was apparently fine. So as it turns out Auto Import Doctor was trying to rip us off AND Steve's was inept. Awesome! So yeah, we wouldn't recommend Steve's. read more

My car had a computer problem, I took it in, $600 cost, paid for it and then found out they hadn't replaced it. Bad business

Be sure they are fixing the right problem - I brought my truck in to have an oil leak repaired, but it was still leaking after it was repaired, for which I paid $877.41. Since we'd moved from the area, I was advised by NAPA Warranty to take it to another approved shop near me. The mechanic advised me that Steve's had in fact not repaired the original leak, nor had they appropriately diagnosed the problem and I had to have it re-repaired correctly. I called Steve's to see what they would be willing to do to make it right and was told they were not willing to do anything to keep a good customer. They admitted they had not diagnosed it correctly, nor given me the option or professional advice to have a thorough diagnosis done before going forward with a costly repair. In addition, there was a note on my receipt that said they'd rotated the tires and done a brake inspection, however that was not the case, because the second mechanic showed me where the rear axle seal had been leaking all over the brakes, which they would have noticed had they actually done an inspection. Up until now, we'd used Steve's Auto and recommended them to many others. Unfortunately, they have lost a good customer and many prospective customers in my opinion. read more

Awful. Awful awful awful. Took my car here and came out with a quote for $1200. I was told me my whole intake system was jacked and needed to be replaced. Took it to another shop for a second opinion who couldn't confirm that a SINGLE sensor they said needed to be replaced did, and that if they had run any of the tests that they charged me for that they wouldn't have come to this conclusion. I'm SO glad I got a second opinion. I was in their shop on the edge of tears as they sat there and blatantly lied to me. I think they saw the symptoms and decided to replace anything that they thought was related. I'll never be coming back here. $108 to diagnose and tell me I need to spend an additional grand (and doesn't even address the problem)? I don't think so. BTW I waited 1 month to post this review to make sure that everything the other shop did was right and fixed the problem, and it did. read more

Avoid this place - total ripoff. I had a coupon from the local newspaper for a $19.00 oil change. These con artists ran a slick scam when I came in, claiming that the coupon was only for 5-W-30 oil, and the oil that my car needs is one number different, so it will cost me $6.25 per quart. Then they added on a $10.00 bogus labor charge, so I wound up paying $38 bucks for a 19.00 oil change. When I asked my old mechanic in another city about this bill, he said that they totally lied to me: the oil I need NEVER costs any more than any other oil. The place was totally empty of other customers. I'm sure it's a front for an illegal drug-dealing business. read more

We had young friends who were passing through Longmont on a roadtrip who experienced serious brake problems on the way here. They were on a tight budget and the cost of repairs threatened to end their road trip before it really began. A friend who knows the Longmont repair shops recommended Steve's as honest and very competent. They not only resolved the problem but also went above and beyond to get all the parts and labor covered by the warranty. I even volunteered to do some extra replacements and they were honest to tell me that I really didn't need those things done at this time...much appreciated not to try to get more money from me. I want to like this place. I really do. But I'm feeling burned. I know I'm a woman and I'm not supposed to know about cars, but I am NOT a stupid woman and I DO know about cars as I was raised working on them with my dad. This was a simple repair needed on an easy-to-install part (not in/on/near the engine and had nothing to do with the running of the car), and I had even done my research to know what the part would cost and how to repair it. Called them to make an appointment, told them what the problem was, and dropped my car off the night before. I wait nearly all day, no word whatsoever. I finally called, only to be told "he's just getting started looking at it and is running diagnostics." Really? I already told them what the problem was and what needed to be replaced. An HOUR later (and yes, I'm getting billed for that hour for "diagnostic work" that didn't need to be done) only to be told, hey, it WAS the part I told them was bad, but now it's too late to get the part, and my car will have to sit there another day while they wait for it. Great. I'm going to spend about $150 more for the repair than I should have because of the "diagnostic work" plus losing two days of work, which cost me about $800. So a simple, under-$200 repair that should have taken no more than an half hour is now costing me over $1100. Thanks a lot. How they can make it better: 1. Honor appointments and work on cars in that order. Just because I'm not sitting in your waiting room doesn't mean my time doesn't matter. 2. Listen to the customer. Don't assume they don't know what they are talking about, DESPITE their gender. I explained the diagnostics I did and had already determined what needed to be replaced. I could have been saved a ton of time AND money had you just listened to me. 3. COMMUNICATE. Why did I have to call to find out what was going on with my car? YOU should have called me. Perhaps Steve's can't make any money if they aren't tacking on some extra costs/labor somewhere. Or perhaps they have so much business they don't need mine anymore, since they can't seem to work on a simple repair without turning it into a two-day ordeal. read more

Very pleased. I was recommended this place by a local, and a friend, and took a leap of faith with what I thought was the "death rattle" of my beloved vehicle for 10 years named "Sunny". On my initial phone conversation I worked with Charles, who was very pleasant and personable, in our initial conversation and then met him in person upon drop off. I was originally told that the diagnostic was free, but upon pick up I noticed it as an additional cost on the bill. The reason for this was that they had to "hook up" Sunny to diagnose it, which was a standard $99 charge. A visual inspection would have been free. When I inquired about it, he explained the above, but then was happy to remove the charge. What amazing customer service! Steve's Auto was able to diagnose the problem and fix it in a very reasonable amount of time. I am so happy with the quality of their work and their excellent customer service! I also thought that there was a brake issue, but they checked the thickness of the pads and the integrity of the rotors and assured me that everything was well within safe standards. They could have sold me a brake job and I would have trusted their word fully and have them fix it, but it was not needed! I will look no further for a top quality, dependable, and honest local garage. read more

Was interested in purchasing a pickup truck from a small dealership in Longmont, but first, just to make sure that it was in decent shape, brought it to Steve's for an inspection. after a couple of hours the verdict was in-gear bushings worn out, blinkers inoperable as well as a leak in a left rear axle seal. The fluids and air filter were listed as "dirty". Sounded like a reasonable purchase with the dealership agreeing to repair the flashers in order to make it roadworthy for the return home. A couple of days later when I took the truck in for the recommended repairs at my mechanic's in my hometown I was informed that the brake shoes, as well as the drums were completely worn out. The right strut was worn out. Both axle seals were leaking. The person at Steve's hadn't taken the tire off for inspection. The fluids and air filter were "fine". I would have negotiated a lower price for the truck at the dealership had I known that the total bill for the repairs was over $2000.00. What a ripoff...thanks Steve. read more
