The Hallmark Store in Benicia has been the annual lifesaver when visiting family in Benicia. Be it a birthday, Holiday or random celebration, this establishment has something for every occasion. The size of the store does limit the selection, but there aren't that many other options once you cross the bridge. The value+service is ok depending on the team present that day; for the most part, you get what you pay for. As long as they are around, they'll see me getting that last minute gift or card at least once a year! read more

Good to know there's still Gold Crown Hallmark stores like Steve's still around. For those times when a Dollar Store generic-bargain card or item won't cut it. (Ironically, there's a Dollar Tree two doors down however). Once a staple at most malls, the Hallmark store brand looked to be a dying-off breed. I recently re-signed up for the Gold Crown membership after my 1990's card either expired or terminated due to non-use. Walked into Steve's with a $5 off coupon emailed to me. Store is jam-packed with a lot of merchandise & greeting cards to see + choose from. Some, but not all of the post-holiday merchandise was discounted. But of course the Keepsake ornaments I had my eye on were still full MSRP price, bah humbug. Scoured the racks, and found a couple hard-to-find greeting cards such as a 60th Wedding Anniversary & an 80th birthday card for upcoming family milestones. Cards that I likely couldn't have found at many other stores. So, kudos for that. Upon entry, I was seeking a handbasket to gather my purchases (rolling carts inside would be unworkable due to the store layout); but the store somewhat surprisingly doesn't provide them. Instead, preferring you to bring each item to the counter to hold thereby keeping your hands free while continuing to browse. Slight subtractions for that and the cashier looked as though she might've been having a bad day, idk? Judging from another review posted hours earlier, it looks like a customer got into it with the cashier over an ornament discount/return. Agree with the corporate response to this that all ornaments should be discounted post-holiday. Handful of other reviews of the store speak of less-than-satisfactory customer service, something I witnessed to a degree also. Do better. I wanted to pull up my coupons and the cashier said u can pull them up. I had a $2.00 coupon and a free card. The cashier pulled up the $2.00 coupon and didn't pull up my free card. When I went back the store the young cashiers said you can return your two cards and lose the $2.00. You can buy three cards and get one free. Why can I just give you the coupon for my free card. No customer service. No way to make it right. read more

I love this Hallmark store. So nice to actually see a real card shop. I get nostalgic from being a kid going inside one of these shops. The ladies at this place are super sweet. It's still the classic Hallmark shop that I expected to see. Well stocked store and very well kept. Good location and has ample parking in this particular mall. Support this local gem! read more

I absolutely love shopping at this local Hallmark despite sometimes the 2 employees that tend to not be very helpful. Today I went in to redeem my bday reward and was told that they didn't have those soap tins anymore. The employee went on to say, I could take the other option or wait until next month. I chose what they had and went on to shop. I returned having to wait at least 10 min since she was the only one at the cashier only for her to very bluntly tell me that my 20% bday coupon would not work on the keepsake ornament. She said, "It says it right on the card."I replied, Do you mean the tiny little print that no one can read?" This woman is always curt and completely ruined what should have been a fun experience. I shop here all the time esp around Xmas and this is how I am being treated? I also shared with a friend who told me the exact same thing happened to her for her bday last month. So maybe just stop sending out these empty cards Hallmark. Shopping here should be fun and nostalgic. There is no excuse for this treatment of customers. read more

DO NOT go to this Hallmark store. From the employees being consistently rude and unhelpful to them blatantly ripping us off last week and then refusing to allow a return it has been a nightmare day trying to figure this situation out. We went in to shop their sale last week which was posted as ALL hallmark ornaments and upon going to check out we are told the ornaments we selected actually don't qualify, so we buy one and go on our way. This week we realized the ornament wouldn't be a good fit for our tree so I go to return the ornament when I am met by an angry older woman who immediately escalates the situation yelling at me inside the store saying I can't return the item due to Hallmark's corporate return policy. I call Hallmark once I escape the deranged woman with my items and they tell me the item should have been 50% off and they should have issued me a return. The ticket is currently being processed by Hallmark corporate and I hope this store is not allowed to remain affiliated with Hallmark. Their return policy is completely wrong and their sales are abysmal. Go to Hallmark's website if you wish to buy something, you will receive good customer service, a better selection and much better prices. The staff are seriously some of the most rude, inept, and dramatic people I have ever met in my entire life. DO NOT SUPPORT ANY OF STEVE'S HALLMARK STORES! read more

I was treated poorly by Tanya. She is the opposite of what Hallmark stands for. Not going to support their store. I am a non white person, I felt that I was being treated differently because of the color of my skin. I did not want to make an issue of it, because I had no proof. Reading previous reviews of other people being treated differently because of the color of their skin, just justified my feelings. read more

I came in to try and exchange some gift bags I purchased 2 days before, but I lost my receipt, but I do have a Hallmark Rewards card. When I walked in the sales person was chatting with a customer, but when she came to ring up my purchase and I told her I wanted to return something, she very rudely told me I should've told her when I walked in that I was bringing in a previous purchase. That's fine, I would've done that, but like I said she was talking to someone when I walked in, further towards the middle of the store. And I didn't even walk around the store, I found what I needed right at the front, I spent not longer than 2 minutes to get what I needed to exchange. I didn't appreciate her making it seem like I was trying to be suspicious or steal, just tell me I cant do a return without a receipt. This was a single incident, no one else who works here has been that rude to me before, but it sure does sour the experience and I'd rather not come back and deal with that again. read more

I've been shopping at Steve's Hallmark since I moved to Benicia in 2001. Today I had a very disappointing experience. I purchased 3 individual Hallmark Brand Christmas Cards, 3 boxes of Hallmark Brand Christmas Cards and two pairs of Christmas Earrings (Total Sale was $78.59). I asked the Sales Associate for Gold Hallmark Seals for all of the cards, and she told me that I could only have Seals for the individual cards, not for the boxed cards. I explained that last year I was given Seals for ALL my cards. She checked with the on floor Manager, who also told me no. REALLY?? These were Hallmark Brand Boxed cards, it is free advertising for the Hallmark Brand, and the Seals are NOT REALLY MADE OF GOLD!! I left the store with my purchases but will most likely never return. And I will be sharing this experience with my family, friends, neighbors and work associates in Benicia. read more

Yeah, I'm a card snob! Some would argue there are much better card options, i.e. Papyrus or some other boughie spots, but I love me the OG, sappy-style Hallmark card. This quaint little Hallmark store, is on par with Benicia standards. I think they carry more trinkets, than cards. Their card selection is not the best, but it's not horrible. However, they have a plethora of junk you'd find at any 'ol granny's house. Lots of figurines, holiday themed junk, kids toys, Hello Kitty stuff, stuffed animals, and a wall of candles. I originally came in thinking I was coming to a Hallmark Card shop, but this is a Hallmark Junk shop. The staff seems bipolar - sometimes they are sweet as molasses, sometimes they are as rude as curmudgeons. You never really know what you are going to get. What I don't get is, they aren't busy enough to be that grumpy... Location is convenient for Benicia living, but in any other city this business wouldn't stand a chance. This spot does send lots of coupons via snail mail, so I can't complain too much. Organized & cluttered chaos, but head to the back and finally find the cards! read more

The staff here are hardly attempting social distancing and it seems many of the customers when I was in don't think Covid19 is a real concern. There are social distancing stickers on the ground for waiting in line at the register and staff were wearing masks. However that appears to be the extent of their efforts. read more

I had the absolute worst service I have ever had at this store today. I had a brand new hoodie that I needed to return that was a Christmas gift and which I had the receipt for. My daughter bought it online at hallmark and picked it up at this same store. They would not take it back!! They did not listen nor did they offer any explanation. They have no problem taking your money, but don't ever try to return anything at this Hallmark store. It was a horrible and frustrating experience. I try to give my business to small local businesses in Benicia, but I will be scratching this one off my list, and I suggest that you do too. And did I mention that the only reason I needed to return it is because they sent the wrong size. It was their error in the first place... but again, they didn't listen nor did they care!! Stay away from Steve's Hallmark Store in Benicia. They do NOT know the meaning of customer service! So I just reviewed the return policy and it clearly states if you are not satisfied to return the item at the store where the item was picked up for a full refund. I also spoke with a Hallmark representative at the 800#. She stated that the store is completely wrong by not taking my return. Clearly Steve's Hallmark in Benicia needs to read their own return policy, because they are not only rude, but they are clueless!! And by the way... the store was a complete mess, and the two ladies on duty were just sitting behind the counter chatting with each other. I was the only customer in the place. I love this Hallmark Store. I was devastated that my store in the Fairfield mall was closing. I didn't have an ideal where would I go to find the perfect cards, and gifts for my friends & family. The sales associate told me about this store, and it was actually closer to my house. You can spend hours in this store exploring all that they have to offer. The card collections, baby books gifts are such good quality you won't be disappointed. They have gift cards & even little treats to eat. The sales associates are really friendly & welcoming when you enter the store. I love going to this store. read more

I live in Martinez, but travel to Steve's in Benicia because of the staff. They are always happy and knowledgable. Teresa is awesome and always accommodating. She's happy to answer any questions you have and never seems frustrated when I ask her to help me find an ornament that ends up being "right there". They had an outage once during an ornament premier weekend and handled it perfectly. It was a little slower, but organized and everything went smoothly. Even the owner came in to help. I just love the atmosphere here and highly recommend this location. read more

Older white lady who works here needs to mind her damn business. Got a plush animal from here. Before coming in I knew they had a 'one per person' limit on said item. In order to prevent a situation to arise I had a friend come with me n wait until I checked out to come into the store. Even when I was checking out I asked if they had more in this specific size and she said no. Told her I had a friend coming n think they wanted one too. Still didn't effect anything. He waited about five minutes after I entered to walk in. Pretty sure it's the racist older white lady people were talking about in 2014/2016 we had an issue with. She goes "didn't you just buy one?" to my friend. He says "no. we met here and I want to buy one." Did she really have to audibly sigh so loud I was able to hear her from the back of the store??? HELL TO THE NO. First time and probably LAST TIME I'll be going to this Hallmark. Stationary enthusiasts it's probably better to visit your local Target's card section than to get poor customer service like that. Do better lady. read more

They always ask if we are a rewards member and when you say no they don't even ask if you would like to join. The employees have no customer service skills whatsoever.
