The Aamco Transmissions in Gardner, Mass is the worst business I have ever dealt with. After…read morepromising they could replace the transmission in our car in 2-3 weeks, they became non communicative. They hardly ever called with updates, multiple days I would call with no answer at all. Many false promises of "it will be done today". Then nothing, no phone call on why it wasn't and I couldn't get a hold of them. No answering machine, nothing. They even asked one time if I wanted to pay in advance. WHAT??? At one point I was so frustrated that I remembered the owner of this franchise was at a different location and tried to call him there. (Manchester, NH). The tech who answered absolutely refused to help me. I asked him if he could at least ask the owner to give me a call so i could get an update on my car and he said he would not do that. Then by week 5, they didn't even have the guts to call me directly, they called another franchise owner to have her call me and tell me the transmission they put in was bad, they would have to start over again. I went over his head and got corporate involved and had the car moved to a different location. I stuck it out as long as I did because I did put some money down, but that was the last straw. (i have since disputed the charge and had it reversed). Amazingly enough, they finally found the time to call me at that point! Both the manager and the owner called me to say they could figure it out, give them another shot. They kept using the excuse of they are short on help. I'm sorry, but if you're that short on help, you don't take these big jobs on and leave a customer hanging for literally 5 weeks. Not only did they leave me hanging, they told my husband they were going to put in a refurbished transmission. We found out afterwards, it wasn't refurbished, it was a used one. But the price he was going to charge us was for a refurbished. And they caused some damage to the car that the other location had to fix. The reason we went to Aamco in Gardner in the first place is our mechanic recommended them thinking since they were local it would be easier than going to a dealership. We have since told our mechanic to never recommend them ever. i am saying the same, don't EVER EVER EVER go to Aamco in Gardner, Ma. Monique

I can say that I spoke to an employee named Gianni and his girlfriend who was in the garage with him while the manager was away because he was having a baby and they were very unprofessional. Knowing Matt and Dave I know they would never condone having an employee with his girlfriend hanging around in the shop. When I tried to speak to Gianni the mechanic he couldn't tell me anything about my vehicle he was working on, it seemed he didn't know what he was even doing. It is a small town so I asked around about him and found out at his last job he was barely a lube tech and that his former job didn't trust him to go and grab parts. When Matthew came back after having his baby, I spoke to him about the concern with the two of them hanging around and How his mmechanic brought his girlfriend in and he let that guy go. After another week come to find out Matt was lied to about the work experience from Gianni, cause he said he knew how to do transmission work and didnt get any work done. As I said I've been a customer here as well as my two elderly grandparents and Matthew and Dave have always treated me great. Matt apologized for the delay in the work on my vehicle and the poor work ethic of his employee. this mechanic definitely took full advantage of this company and their leniency.

I had used West previously so I wasn't anticipating any issues. The car was not operable due to a…read moredrive shifter issue. I called AAA and they referred me to West. We needed to have the car towed from house to the dealer for service. The driver was nice, and very careful loading up the car so everything seemed fine. When I asked him to hand the key to the dealer service rep, he said he'd just drop the car in the first available spot because the dealership is under construction and very busy. I immediately called the dealer to tell them the car would be there in about 30 min. The car was towed to the dealer, but the key was NOT handed to anyone and somehow lost! The driver claimed to have left it in the cup holder yet the dealer valet and service team could not locate it. Now, no one claims responsibility and we're out $200 to replace the key. West claims that it is routine for their drivers to just leave the key, but doesn't it seem reasonable to hand it off to an employee during business hours? Oh, and I had to drive to the dealer to provide the only remaining key so they could work on the car. Again, what seemed like good, careful service was lacking responsibility in something as simple as providing the car key to a dealer employee. I wouldn't recommend West again to deliver a car to a location. It seems it's their policy to drop it and leave.

I thought I needed a new clutch and was bracing for the bill. Jim investigated the problem thoroughly and was in touch with me throughout the process. He finally was able to diagnose the problem, which was not the clutch but rather a solid piece of the clutch supporting framework that fatigued over the years just enough to get a little in the way of my shifting into 3rd gear. Jim explained the problem clearly and apologized that the way the car was manufactured 22 yrs ago, there's really no fix. We brainstormed a few ideas and determined that they were either not feasible or would not solve the issue. Jim could have done expensive work on the car and I would have been none the wiser. But he didn't because he knew it would not fix the issue. He spent hours figuring out the source of the problem. I was prepared to provide my credit card to pay for his time, but he generously declined the payment. I appreciate the time he spent on the car and even more so his honesty in not recommending or doing work that wasn't needed. Should I have transmission issues in the future, Clapham's will be my first call.
