Nothing too fancy here at Sticks. Place your order at the register, you come back and pick it up. It's probably not going to take long to be prepared, so be ready. I had a pair of chicken kebobs with the tomato and cucumber salad, plus a small side of hummus. The hummus was very good. Garlic flavor, a little coarsely ground, very tasty and not drippy at all. Main course kebabs were great. Nicely grilled and tasty with whatever spices they use to cook them. With the rice and pita breads, it was quite a yummy meal. This is a local favorite here in Charlottesville!! The skewers are grilled and served on either a bed of rice or a fresh crispy salad. The onion rings here are great, too!! It has a fairly limited menu, but give it a try- it's worth the learning curve. I would give sticks a higher rating if their prices weren't so high for fast food sit down restaurant. Also the The ingredients they are using are not that expensive. So for the quality of food it is fantastic. Excellent hummus and grilled meat. It's just a bit overpriced for what you're getting. However, they do have to pay rent and salary. Well worth a stop closed on Sunday so they make enough money to not be open. The Ability of a restaurant to be closed on Sunday should inform your opinion about about how much things cost. Can't speak to the food because I spent about 45 minutes trying to figure out how to order online, and their terminology- Garnish? Sub rice on a platter??? What does the platter come with? After doing that I simply drove there and tried to ask for clarification from the door, and was told to call or order online... I called, and when I asked what sides they had, the woman rattled the sides off so fast I could not understand her. I told her I had never eaten there before and she said that maybe I should order online then... Misrepresent their prices. I ordered a platter with a chicken skewer and a shrimp one. On their menu it says that the shrimp is $1.50+ and they charged me $3.50 extra for the shrimp. I just don't know where to start with. How bad the food is that I just brought home. I got two kabobs a beef kabob and a pork kabob. They are both awful for a few reasons. The beef it seems is very mealy and tastes old. And both of them taste like they've been cooked on a grill that needs to be cleaned badly. I got the cilantro sauce which is been my favorite since the day they opened and it is complete water. It won't even stay on the meat that I've tried to eat but just cannot. I am shocked at how bad the food is. I've been coming to stick since they opened. I won't be coming back because I am so grossed out. I threw it away. I don't have time to go back to explain this. This was the most mediocre kebab I've had in a very long time. The chicken had very little flavor on its own, which is quite a far cry from how its supposed to be. It lacked the juiciness that I've come to expect from kebab. The bread was flat and tasted burnt. The rice was okay, but fairly greasy. I didn't eat the side salad because it was just shredded lettuce and tomato chunks. Very low quality. Very disappointing, won't be coming back. Also, it's spelled kebab, not kebob. read more

My only (minor) complaint is that I asked for two different sauces last time and they left one out. I should have checked inside the container before I picked up. I would think that Sticks Kebob would have amazing kebobs - but I was somewhat disappointed to find that they were so-so. I ordered a platter with Kibbeh and steak kebobs. The steak was nothing special - about what you would expect. The kibbeh, which seems like a grounded lamb meatball, was a bit dry and on the salty side. The rest of the platter included rice and a little side salad, which resembled elementary school cafeteria greens. We have been eating at Sticks for years. We love the food and the owners are local. I have eaten at 3 locations but we always end up at Pantops. The preparation is always good and the staff is always friendly. Highlights for us....we LOVE the chicken kabobs. The lime cilantro dressing is amazing. My wife loves the lemon sesame sauce as well. The rice is always perfectly cooked and delicious. What seals the deal though is the hummus and grilled pita bread. Outstanding!! Kid friendly meals available and we always feel good when we are done eating. Can't say that about many fast casual places. We compare this to Chipotle but Mediterranean. Let me be clear: I am giving 2 stars only because the service was very friendly. I ordered the veggie side sampler, and my husband ordered the lamb kabob. The food came out instantaneously, seemingly having just beeped its way out of a steaming microwave. We were already nervous. We were right to be nervous. Then we started eating. The bread was tasteless, hummus was a disaster, tabouleh was far from fresh, and the cold eggplant salad was simply gross. Granted, my husband did like his lamb kabob, but it needed salt and was tiny. Oh, and I fully agree with the suspicions of other yelpers that the falafel was pre-made and microwaved. We go to Sticks for their hummus. It really is the best I have ever had, absolutely love it. We went by there the other day...people sitting outside, lights inside were on and the door was open. My husband went in to just get a couple to-go tubs of hummus and was told "no" because it was 3 minutes after closing. Owning my own business, I would want to know if my employees turned guests away. When I finally did, I went with someone who apparently knew what to order, and I got the same thing he got -- chicken platter with creamy cilantro lime sauce and a side of hummus -- and I've been hooked eversince. Really wish I liked this place more. I've had up and down experiences here. The things that have been consistently good are the hummus, cucumber salad, baba ganoush, and the various sauces (cilantro lime and red pepper). I've had inconsistent experiences with the lamb and chicken - sometimes good, sometimes not. Same with the french fries - sometimes nice and crispy, other times really oily and tasting like they have been microwaved. The one thing that I have been generally disappointed with is the falafel. Good falafel seems fairly simple - a nice crisp outside with a fresh chickpea interior. The falafel here seems like it has been frozen and then cooked in an oven -- there's no real difference in texture between the inside and outside and the inside is doughy. The other thing is that Sticks is generally stingy with how much of the flatbread they will give you. Sort of a shame considering the flatbread is consistently really good. I almost always have to order an extra flatbread. read more

Sticks is a nice fast food alternative serving kebobs on warm, soft pitas or on salads, with your choice of meat, sauce and sides. The kibbeh is especially tasty, particularly when coupled with the cucumber yogurt sauce. Add some of the hot sauce they leave on the pick up counter, and you're good to go. But if you are seeking falafel, forget it. The falafel seems to be reheated and, as seems to be the pattern in C'ville, they don't have tahini sauce. read more

It was just the onions but I like onions, just not when they're long, stringy and burnt. You cut up onions for salads, folks. But that's not why I'm bothering to write this. Sticks. My family loves this place. Me, not so much. The food is tasty and fresh, but there are a lot of cons. First, the price. When I drop $40 on a simple meal for my wife and I and our two young kids, I'd expect someone to have received a decent steak. Second, I'd expect there to be more food. Third, I wouldn't expect to feel like I'm asking for the last drop of water in the desert when looking for more than a 1/4 cup of sauce or a cup for water. This is a great alternative to fast food in Charlottesville. It's relatively healthy and there is a nice variety of flavors to choose from. I usually get the chicken kabob sandwich with roasted red pepper sauce and grilled onions. It's very satisfying. The platter is great but the only complaint I have about it is the white rice. It would be better if there was a brown rice alternative. The hummus is SUPERB. Seriously, try it. I usually get it to take home. Way better than any hummus you can find in a supermarket and comparable in price. The limeade is also great! The soups are pretty decent. It says at the top that alcohol is not served - actually they have beer and wine in bottles at this location. Great views of the Blue Ridge if you sit on the window side. read more

Sticks promotes itself as a source of Mediterranean and Greek food. Well, if kebabs, hummus,baba gannoush and falafel qualify, it is a source, but what passes for these foods at Sticks is mysterious and unsettling. I lived for 26 years in the Middle East and few there would recognize these local concoctions. No standard recipe for making kebabs exists, but normally one marinates the chicken or meat pieces for a half hour or so to infuse them with the flavor of the marinade. Marinade recipes are readily available. Alas, the kebabs at Sticks lack any discernible flavor but the chicken. That a choice of one of four sauces is offered for each kebab order is a tacit admission that the kebabs can't stand on their own. In the Middle East, they do. Here's a hint for a way to make flavorful kebabs Iranian style: grate onion and mix with lemon juice and salt (vary ratios according to taste). Add a little turmeric if color is desired. This simple marinade will give the chicken amazing flavor to which no one would think of adding a sauce. It is simply not needed. Maybe the chefs think it takes too long to marinate the chicken. Hummus is made of mashed chickpeas, tahini (sesame seed paste), lemon juice and garlic and a dash of salt. The hummus served at Sticks seems little more than mashed chickpeas overwhelmed by cumin. And I do mean overwhelmed. The other typical ingredients of hummus ( tahini, lemon juice and garlic) seem not to be present at all, or in such minor amounts as to be unnoticeable. Could it be that tahini and lemons cost more than chickpeas, ounce per ounce? Baba gannoush differs from hummus primarily in that its main ingredient is mashed eggplant roasted to impart a smoky flavor. Like hummus, it is normally creamy to pale yellow in color. What Sticks serves up looks more like purple-gray, gelatinous sludge with no identifiable flavor. An unwitting diner might infer that instead of scooping out the creamy, roasted eggplant, the chefs just puree the whole plant, skin and all. The result is a visual disaster, and minus the flavor of the other typical ingredients, a culinary disaster. The stuffed grape leaves are in the same league as the dips: virtually tasteless. The falafel, as a number of yelpers have pointed out, lacks a soft interior. to contrast with the crisp outer shell and, like so much at Sticks, simply lacks discernible flavor. A hint of coriander does wonders for the flavor of the interior. Some diners have speculated that these are not fresh fried, but done in advance, then microwaved. I have no proof of this but am inclined to agree. These problems are so easily fixed. I am not a professional chef but I could fix them in a matter of hours. Are the chefs not given a free hand to do so? Why don't the good citizens of Charlottesville demand that they be fixed? read more
