Sticks Kebob Shop in Charlottesville is a great spot for a quick, healthy meal. The food is usually tasty, and the baklava is outstanding. The place is usually clean. The service is mostly prompt and polite.

Surprised that this place only has 3 stars, I was really happy with my lunch! I thought the food all tasted very fresh. It wasn't greasy, the salad wasn't soggy, and it was bursting with flavors! I ordered the salad with two sticks that included the falafel and chicken, and swapped for the cilantro lime dressing. As I said the food was great, service was quick, and it was light but had me full for the rest of the afternoon. Will be back again!!

Sticks is always a good spot to pick up a hearty meal. Call in orders are easy to place and it is ready when you walk in the door. They have also catered staff meals for work. The quality of the food is great either way. I typically get the 2 stick platter. I don't typically get the lamb, but the steak and chicken are both great choices. It comes with a small side salad, rice, and a side. I typically get hummus for the pita bread.

It's Autumn. Leaves fall from trees. You need to rake them, sweep them, or possibly blow them away. They're not a health hazard. Not a fall risk, unless they're wet. But it suggests to me that you don't care one whit about the appearance of your store. And it wouldn't hurt to wipe down the tables after diners leave. End of rant. Other than that, I mostly like Sticks Kebob Shop. Yesterday was my first visit to a shop with "Kebob" in the name. The first thing I noticed was that nearly all tables had crumbs & debris on the surface and/or on the seat. Ick. So I ordered a Platter with Fresh Herbed Chicken, Cucumber Yogurt Sauce, and [Fried] Onion Rings. After paying, I tried to find a clean table. The high-tops seemed cleaner than others. so I snagged one and sat in the stool that was bolted to the floor. Yikes! While the stool's pillar seemed securely bolted to the floor, the seat was decidedly not securely connected to the pillar, and wobbled with an unsettling looseness.. Two other stools I checked had the same wobbly problem. I had to settle for a less-than-squeaky-clean 4-top. My food came out on a slightly warped plastic tray with a sturdy plastic plate containing the food, the Fresh Herbed Chicken Kebob, White Rice, Onion Rings, Pita,, and a tiny Salad. The tray itself was also wobbly, but when I transferred the plate to the table top, everything seemed secure. I proceeded to enjoy my meal. Onion Rings first. Very good. I snarfed down the lot of them, about 6. The Fresh Herbed Chicken on the skewer was quite good. I wanted to eat each piece of Fresh Herbed Chicken with a bit of Rice, but the Rice was disappointing. No flavor, and it was clumpy. So I merely dipped each piece of FHC in the Cucumber Yogurt Sauce, which was very good, worth repeating. SKS has 3 locations, 2 in C'ville and one in the Richmond area. I plan to check out the Richmond store soon. Hopefully the personnel in that store will care more about the appearance of the store. And I sure hope they know how to cook Rice.

My wife and I love coming to Sticks. The Kabobs are always phenomenal, the rice delicious, the sauces flavorful, and the homemade hummus is some of the best I've ever had. I recommend getting a beef and chicken Kabob if this is your first time as both taste great and they are both safe options. The creamy cilantro lime sauce is also a great compliment for these two kabobs. The hummus you can get as a side will come with a few pieces of Pita bread (one Pita cut into slices) but you will more than likely want to order more pita for the amount of hummus they give you (it's a dollar for a few additional slices I believe). Make sure you get some of the spicy red sauce from the tall plastic containers from where you pick up your order as it is a great dipping sauce for your meal. The inside of the restaurant is clean, the outside area is alright though it's in the direct sunlight. Getting in and out of sticks can be tough due to the one way traffic flow and its proximity to a stop light.

Great falafel, salads and perhaps the best hummus ever. Love it for a quick lunch or takeaway.

Even when they were very busy, the wait for a seat is rather short. It's mainly four-top seats but they can push together tables as needed. There's music always playing and not a lot of padding to soften noise so I'd call the location "average" loud. Downtown Charlottesville doesn't really do free parking. You can park at the next corner in open parking to the left or paid parking to the right. But we're talking $2 or so, not a bank-breaking experience and with lots of shopping across the street it's worth staking out a spot and then walking the area. What I like: The food is tasty. The appetizers are solid. There's a large enough menu that you can always try something new. And the portions are ample enough to share. What I'm not so fond of: The waitstaff spend a lot of time at the front scrolling on their phones. They aren't too keen on refilling your drinks either. I say this as someone who has eaten here about a dozen times. Also, I don't normally mind cameras, but there are enough blinking lights on cameras to make it feel more like a jewelry store than a restaurant. That said, if you are not in a hurry, want some good food in solid portions, and plan to do some shopping or window shopping downtown, this has been my go-to place for years.

Usually I wait until I've tried a place a few times but I feel comfortable making a review based on my first try since 1) their catering had a variety of options so I know it wasn't just one dish that was bad and 2) I couodnt imagine spending my money to give them a second chance. Really. It was this bad. They catered an event I attended today and I had pita bread, hummus, dolmas, chicken and squash shish kebabs, pasta salad and Greek salad. Every. Single. Dish. Was an absolute let down. Chicken was completely dry and flavorless. I threw the rest of it away. The pita was so dry it crumbled and I couldn't eat it. Surely the hummus would help boost the chicken and pita? Wrong. The hummus was basically ground chickpeas with no other flavor. The pasta salad just tasted like plain pasta with oil. Nothing else. The dolmas were decent (but it's grape leaves and rice, how can you mess it up??) and the green salad was ONLY good bc there was some feta to put on top. The dressing was just straight oil no other flavors. I can't comment on their ambiance, I'm not sure if you can eat inside since it was catered to us. Maybe the place is nice but I haven't been there so I wouldn't know. This is the worst meal I've had in awhile and I do not recommend their food. The others at my table all said the same thing, we were not impressed. Would not recommend.

My husband and I close this restaurant to break my fast. We were greeted quickly by the hostess who led us to booth seating, and gave us menus. There was no need though, as we had already spotted the all-you-can-eat buffet. We requested only water to go with our meals; she quickly brought a carafe of chilled water and two glasses. This is a generous buffet with many selections for a complete meal, from soup and salad to dessert. There was a good variety of both meat and vegetarian options. Our FAVORITES included the fresh mixed chickpea salad (the chick peas, cucumbers, tomato, onion, parsley); lamb curry (which featured tender boneless and tender meat); rice pilau with raisins and carrots; borani badenjan (eggplant curry. Tip: drizzle yogurt on this);; bamia (okra) curry; firnee milk pudding (dessert); and the addictive dooth pati chai (spiced milk tea). There were also some items that we didn't enjoy as much but were still good. For instance, the chicken kofta meatballs, while nicely spiced, were very dry. And, the nan bread was disappointing. (There were also many additional good choices on the buffet that are not listed here). The ambiance in the restaurant is comfortable, with many paintings and decorations from Afghanistan. Some tables are in a side room, ideal for small groups or privacy. We noticed, but didn't visit, a downstairs shop with Afghan carpets and other goods. Plus, there's a shop on the side that sells groceries. Parking is plentiful and free. The lunch buffet was $17.99 each, plus VA sales tax (6.3%), city meals tax (5.3%), credit card service free (3.5%), and tip (variable). There are cheaper options available if you order from the menu. We would return when next in Charlottesville.
