My AC quit working in the middle of a major heat wave. I was expecting to be miserable for at least a day or two but Stiles had me back in air conditioned comfort within three hours of calling them. Not only that, but the cost was much less than I was expecting My AC system is about 22 years old so I fully expected to need at least a new compressor, but the technician replaced a capacitor and said I was back in business. They could have easily sold me a new unit but they were honest with me. I will be calling them when my unit finally does wear out. read more

The plumber, Sebastian, was very nice, professional, and efficient with his work. I have no issues with him. He repaired a leaky sink drain and a dripping tub faucet. He replaced a cartridge on the tub faucet. $88 for service call, $64.69 for labor, $350.29 for the plastic cartridge ($502.98 total). The same cartridge at Lowe's was $64 (even cheaper other places). I called for explanation and got an email response indicating a reduction in price of the cartridge by about $72 dollars making my bill $431.14. My response... Don't bother. I compared it to a painter (I am a retired teacher and work for Dasor Painting) charging a homeowner $350 for a gallon of paint. Could you imagine? We needed an induction motor replaced on our downstairs heating system and no one could get the part needed. We waited 9 days for one contractor to tell us that the part was still a few days out due to bad weather. We started checking around on Wednesday to see if the part could be found locally and one place we called was Stiles. They said they could have one installed on Friday and they did! The technician, Dan Derrick, was congenial and beyond competent and knowlegeable. The person who took our order was Sean, and he gave us the confidence to rely on Stiles for this service. I just received a renewal letter from Stiles for a service that I apparently received with the purchase of my new unit. Allowing me only time to get one of the two seasonal maintenance checkups on my new system. It is really crappy that a business makes no attempts to notify someone or inform them that they have this service with the purchase of their new system than a year later send them a renewal bill for $155. My interactions with this company have shown they are very unprofessional and are looking for any way to get money out of customers to do minimal to no work. I suggest you avoid this company or lose your money doing business with them. read more

We dealt with a home warranty issue (came with home purchase) The warranty company (2-10)wasn't terrible, but the contractor they chose was. The company wanted to replace our 2 ton compressor with a 3 ton back into a 2 ton condenser unit. This mismatch would burn that unit up super quick. On top of that they wanted to charge us to make the modifications needed to fit the wrong compressor into the unit! And it took them 3 weeks to decide on the wrong compressor. We didn't want this company touching a major system in our home and messing it up, so we took the payout from the warranty and called Stiles. We had heard of stiles through their reputation for quality service work in the industrial sector, but didn't know much about their residential side. They took part numbers over the phone, and a basic layout of the house and ducting from original plans and our description of modifications (they offered to come examine it, but we had already been a month without a/c in June and I wanted it fixed quick!) and gave us quotes on several types of systems and sizes recommended for our home. We settled on a 2 stage Goodman unit with lifetime compressor warranty at a price I was astonished they could offer it for! One day later they had it in stock and that afternoon had it installed! I was incredibly impressed at the young guy who was leading the team (Freddy?)! He looked super young and I was a bit skeptical, but once he got to work it was obvious he was 3x as knowledgeable as any A/C installer I've ever dealt with. He trouble shot a few line issues on the fly and led the other guys pretty efficiently. Also, when a piece of insulation from the attic clogged the foot pump in the basement for condensation removal, he led the charge and replaced it for free instead of just cleaning the 25 year old existing one. Not a huge expense, but a strong reflection of our experience with both he and Stiles! We had a fantastic experience with Stiles that was also probably amplified by our poor experience with the other company. We will be doing an annual service contract with Stiles for warranty purposes despite my general reluctance for service contracts! read more

For years we used Stiles for regular twice a year maintenance and then had a home inspection that showed the heat unit was in danger of explosion/fire. Obviously the inspections were not completed properly and Mr. Stiles was rude and had no interest in making this right. Avoid them! read more

Stiles installed two sump pumps at a duplex we won, one in 2019 and one in 2020. Both are dead and need to be completely replaced. They say there is no manufacturers warranty on the equipment (which can't be true) and they won't support their own installation. Don't use these people. read more

We needed to redo our furnace and ductwork in an old house we are restoring. I thought I needed a new furnace but they recommended keeping the existing one, which saved me a good bit! All of their people are knowledgeable, friendly, courteous, neat, experienced and pleasant to work with. They even offered to do part of the work and then wait to finish until I had some other work done inside that would create a lot of dust so that I didn't get all of that dust into the new ductwork. I hadn't even thought about that! I highly recommend them. They're now my go-to partner for all of the services they offer. We recently purchased our home and had a few months left on our heating/AC unit maintenance agreement that the previous owners had purchased. So, we decided to have the annual servicing done before it ran out. When they came our heater WAS WORKING fine (just having routine maintenance done). However, at one point the technician said he broke a piece while maintenancing it but after replacing the part our heater was still not working. He then said our file stated a history of a problems with the board and we'd need to completely replace it at an out of pocket expense of $530 to get our heat back on. I was confused as to how our working heater was no longer working after a simple maintenance appointment, and that we were being given a bill of over $500 if we wanted our heat back (Right smack in the middle of the holidays). I could tell the technician was getting agitated by my questions, and when I was asked to apply my signature to a blank screen I asked to see the language I was signing my name to. He eventually told me to forget it and that he didn't need my signature, he'd just scribble something for me. And then he left. The next day we had another company come in to look at our heater for a second opinion (after explaining that we were told by another company that we needed a new board) and after taking a look he had our heater up and running in 15 min and said some rust just needed dusting off our sensors (annual routine maintenance). Needless to say, we would never recommend this company. Whether intentional or just an ill-informed technician, they were rude, left us without a working heater, and tried to get us to replace a really expense piece of equipment, when our heater was working fine before they "maintenanced" it. Reason for work: My wife and I were looking to move into our new "older" home, but needed to replace the main floor HVAC ducting before doing so as we had mold issues in our crawl space. So we selected Stiles for the work. Issues during HVAC installation: It took 3 separate service visits to install HVAC ducting on the main floor of the house. First install visit appeared to have installed ducting in an acceptable manner. Found out a month later that one vent did not have ducting install at all and the returns and supplies were backwards. Between the first and second installation visits, we noticed these issues after another Stiles HVAC service person look at a frozen HVAC line coming from the HVAC unit. This guy came in the house noticed that the supplies were not working correctly but did not "understand" that was an issue. Second installation visit Stiles switched the HVAC ducting around to the correct supply and return ducts. Noticed that the HVAC ducting was laying on the ground after this visit, so...you guessed it we had them come back out again. Comparison of work performed to level of work stated on website: Stiles has stated on the website that " it pays to work with specialists who know the ins and outs of this field. No matter your HVAC needs, rely on the trained technicians and contractors at Stiles Heating & Cooling to guide you so that you can enjoy optimal indoor comfort." In our experience Stiles installation / service "dudes" are inept, cannot clean up after themselves, lack basic understanding of HVAC design / installation, and lack the professional courtesy to resolve issues that come up. We continued to breath mold filled air for over a month (my wife is pregnant)!! False advertising...I would agree with that assessment. This has been a two-year hate-hate relationship. First, the system as designed and installed didn't work properly for weeks because the type of themostat that had been used was incompatible with the HVAC unit. (I later was told that ours was the first system designed by the owner's son. I just wish I had been told I was being treated as a guinea pig.) Then came the great filter cleaning debacle. When I tried to clean the filter - which had for some reason been placed in a tight spot in a crawlspace rather than in one of the wall intakes - I could not find one. Neither could the first tech to make a housecall, who told me that the unit had somehow been installed without a filter and that one would need to be retro-fitted. The second tech on a follow up visit found it (it had been insulated over with duct insulation). Today, I get zapped $180 for a condensation-related service call (including an $80 diagnostic fee) flowing - literally and figuratively - from the design choice to install the unit in a crawlspace without either a condensation trap or anti-sweat insulation. Three strikes and they are out. I would not use this business again on a bet. read more

Stiles does good repairs and has good service but they way overcharge. First they charge $80 diagnostic fee even if it only take 2 minutes to find out what's wrong. Second they invoice a flat fee: no breakdown on parts/labor. I was charged $400 for a replacement motor that I found online costs only $125. It took 1 hr to install. So I paid $500 for a repair that took 1 hr and a part that cost $125. Another time they replaced a capacitor charging me $220; you can buy this part online for $40. It took less than 1 hr to install. So either they are marking up the price of parts 200% or charging $160/hr labor. shop around before you use them. They price gouge read more
