Situated on the block between Decatur and N. Peters STNDRD Athletic was a random stop in for us as we walked around the city. We got pulled in by the window set ups and sleek looking interior...and the promise of cool athletic gear was a bonus. The store is a boutique style spot with a focus on athletic goods from shoes, shirts, bottoms, hats and accessories. They have a cool shoe wall that features a small variety of men's and women's sneakers. The rest of the store is dedicated to clothing and accessories. They have several name brands, but also feature a few smaller brands specific to the style of clothing. Pricing ranged. There was nothing that seemed wildly expensive, but also nothing that seemed like the deal of a lifetime. The store is in great condition, well kept and was super clean. Plus they had that AC running, so the pop in was nice for many reasons! Service was solid as well. The staff was friendly, welcoming us in, checking on us during the shop and wishing us well. As someone who not only spends a considerable amount of money at local businesses but also takes pride in supporting establishments within our community, I walked into this place expecting even the most basic level of respect. What I received was the complete opposite. Upon entering the establishment, I approached the owner directly and greeted him, trying to initiate a respectful, face-to-face interaction. To my surprise, and honestly my disbelief, he never looked up, never responded, and never acknowledged me at all -- as if I wasn't even standing there. There was no excuse, no distraction, no crowd, no reason not to extend a simple courtesy like eye contact or a greeting. This wasn't just bad customer service -- it was flat-out disrespect. What made the situation even more unsettling is that his own staff, who were standing nearby, were the only ones who showed any kind of professionalism. One of them looked over and said, "Good evening." That moment spoke volumes. If your team has to pick up the slack for your lack of basic human decency, something is seriously wrong with how your business is being run. I've come here before and spent real money -- not just once, but many times -- because I believed in putting my dollars into businesses that represent our city, our people, and our culture. But it's hard to continue supporting a place when the owner himself can't even show an ounce of gratitude or humility to the very customers who keep his doors open. Being a community-based business means something. It means showing love back to the people who show love to you. It means engaging, being present, and understanding that your energy and attitude affect every single person who walks through your doors. When you show your true colors -- especially to someone who's supported you without asking for anything in return -- people take notice. To anyone considering doing business here, I strongly advise you to think twice. It's one thing to have an off day, but it's another to make someone feel unseen, unappreciated, and unwelcome -- especially when they come with respect. I was happy with the selection as it was one of my many sneaker based shopping stops during my trip. The odd thing was the prices were standard for some but really elevated for others. For example I bought a pair of Nike Air Max 90's there for $140. Very standard price. I looked at a pair of Nike Dunk High Retro SE (red and black and green) - still available on Nike online for $100.97 but there for $135. Not worth it. If you are are looking for something specific that they have, then it is good because you will know what prices to expect. If you don't know what to expect and you pay whatever they are asking, you could easily be getting ripped off. read more

I don't know what these people with bad reviews have experienced, but we had the best experience when we went. Greg was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and during our stay in NOLA we came back multiple times buying multiple pairs of awesome shoes (not available anywhere in Canada). I went into this place earlier today and they had a wide selection of shoes (Adidas,Nike, Jordan, New Balance), some very cool retro jerseys and some dope shirts. The service there was great, and the workers were very helpful and knew a lot about the product they were selling. Overall I would only recommend this place to sneaker heads and people who are into sneakers and clothing with style. First retail experience in New Orleans was horrible . The manager was disrespectful woke up early to purchase the Jordan 4 not having purchased Jordans in decades .Waited in line for two hours told the guy my sizes made the purchase walked away just so happen they sold me some other style went back to see if i could spend more money to get what I originally went for owner didn't even give me the option was making a scene yelled at the remaining line should i let him cut in ! I have been here in New Orleans for a couple of days, and for the last two days I've passed this store. Today I decided to go in because I really like some of the shoes that they have. After being in the store for a short while I had found at least two pair of shoes that I wanted to purchase and was looking for more. Then abruptly this gentleman walked up to me, he didn't have an a badge or anything else that would have told me that he was an employee of the store. He then proceeded to tell me that I could not drink my coffee in the store, and that I had to leave it at the front counter. It is concerning to me that someone would ask any customer to leave a beverage unattended, just sitting at a counter. As far as I could tell, while looking around, there were no signs that said that beverages were not allowed in the store. And even if there were, this store is greatly lacking in customer service. So as much as I would like to purchase some items from the store, I won't just because of the shitty service. I think this gives anyone visiting the city of New Orleans a very poor impression. read more

STNDRD looked cool on the outside, but don't be deceived. The products are generally overpriced and mediocre quality. When I finally found an item I wanted to buy, I went to the store at 7:50 PM to buy it. Yet, when I got to the store, the condescending worker was on his computer and told me the store was closed. According to its hours, the store closes at 8:00 PM. I then called the store and the worker told me that they closed at 7:45. 7:45?! Nobody closes then. The worker's willingness to lie and deprive an interested customer from a product was incredibly disappointing. STNDRD, I'm not impressed. read more

Well my 14 year old son asked the owner for 10 percent off thinking that there might be Black Friday sales elsewhere in two days and not wanting to have buyers remorse. After him refusing to discount the Jordan retro 13 history of flight shoes, he pointed to the sale wall toward the back of the store. We looked at 2 pairs of "sale shoes", not even bothering them to bring us a pair to try on. The owner within two minutes approached us and told us we were spending TOO much time in his store and that he wasn't going to service us. He then asked us to leave. We spent approximately ten minutes in his store at 2:00 pm and after shopping around came back and were there for less than 5 minutes after narrowing the choices down. We of course left, my son trying to figure out exactly what happened. If I were a minority, I would of suspected a racial bias. Maybe he just doesn't like 50 year old Caucasian suburban moms that spend money with their kids. Interesting that we went to footlocker after and shared the terrible experience with the sale guy who commented that the same Asian man kicked out another Mom last week.
