This is a quintessential Midwestern bar and there's nothing better than putting money in the jukebox and hanging out with your buddies here. It's been around forever and there's a reason. Drinks are strong, bartenders are attendant, and the people are all super friendly. If you wanna just hang out and shoot the breeze over some beers, this is the place to go. You won't be disappointed! It can get busy some nights but there's plenty of spots to sit and stand.

This bar was so cool. It's a dark setting inside. It has awesome woodwork and decor throughout. The bartender that served us was really nice. We had a couple Guinness's, our go to drink. We were there when they weren't too crowded. We have driven up before and seen that it's so crowded people are just loitering about outside. So, if you want to just chill at a dive bar, try to go when they aren't too busy.

In a perfect world, a bar of historic importance like Stober's would be easy to find wherever you happen to be. But it's not a perfect world, so we'll have to settle for a description my perfect evening of a nightcap after a light dinner while traveling to this part of the country for the first time. I saw the sign a few blocks from my hotel and made a mental note to check it out. Glad I did. The interior of the bar, the signage, the gorgeous display over the back bar is simply stunning. But it doesn't stop there. It's a great selection, and my server could not have been nicer. A couple of bar patrons greeted me on my way in to the far end of the bar from the entrance. So happens I sat right in front of the single malt whisky selection. I paused... yes, that doesn't happen by chance, and a shot of Lagavulin, neat, followed. I paid and gave a nice tip, then asked about someone smaller than a pint of Guinness to accompany it. A pint is just too much for this guy, so the bartender poured a very small glass of the black goodness and said "no charge." Wow, a perfect meal elsewhere, then this stunning bar that is like few you're ever going to see (is it 100 years old??? don't know). The patrons were just chatting, nothing unruly, people were friendly, but there was no out of control anything. Reminded me of pubs in Ireland where the destination was more for camaraderie than people getting drunk and being obnoxious--what happens in most pubs we've all frequented. Well, how can I find a way to be back in the part of the country again? If I do I know the plan. Very highly recommended. A rare gem of an experience.

I was lost in Lansing and saw a sign that said oldest bar in Lansing, so I had to turn around and check it out. They have great parking l, friendly staff, cold beer, and one of the most beautiful bars I've ever seen. I don't know Ben know if they had food just had one beer and left. It's a must if you're in that area. It's a very cool old wood carved bar. Oh yea if you are a fan of shuffle board they have 2 very nice tables

Loved the original woodwork here and the air hockey board. It was decorated for Halloween and looked really cool. I tried a Dark Cherry Ale, and was blown away. I wish I could get this drink where I live. This is one of the oldest bars in the MI area and is worth a quick visit for a local brew and a quick game of air hockey and some tunes on the Jukebox.

Coolest bar in MI. The word working and other decorative items make this a pilgrimage worthy destination.

The venue is large with plenty of seating options to include outdoor accommodations as well. There is a banquet hall that can be rented for private events. And, it appears to be an option for watching sportsball events as there are several TV's strategically placed for optimal viewing. The menus and specials seemed adequate and the service team was beyond friendly and welcoming. The drinks were ok as was the food, no real complaints but also nothing worth especially mentioning. We would try this place again simply because the staff were great and the environment seemed chill and everything was clean and organized from the bar to the bathroom.

We arrived around 4:00 pm and where able to seat ourselves, plenty of seating, numerous tvs and plenty of sports to watch. The menu is simple, drinks on one side, food on the other. We ordered fried pickels and the southwest spring rolls, which were both pretty good. I ordered the pulled pork which was pretty good, however it had to be forked, too much BBQ sauce. Sue ordered spaghetti & meatballs/bread,now here's a plate worth every bite, with three large Italian meatballs, smothered in meat sauce, and plenty of pasta. Our waiter was pretty good and answered our questions. I would recommend this to friends and family. $$

Couldn't finish the sandwich because by the time I got to 1/3 left it was a sopping ball of goo. I probably should have scooped at least half of it off before I attempted to eat it. I Left it in the basket with a few onion rings (which were very good!) Too wet to finish. I recommend WAY less mayo to the establishment. I swear they applied at least 1/4 cup of mayo in the sauce for my (single) burger. Flavor was very good, but the sauce volume prevented me from finishing it. Regarding service: It was awesome. Bartender was knowledgeable and attentive. She knew what she was doing. I recommend sticking to beer if you are drinking. I ordered gin and tonics and got their own gin ("Hard Nose Gin"). It did not appear to resemble a traditional gin, but the description describes it as "juniper-forward". It was alright, but not my choice. I stopped by the night before and had a couple of pints of the Blood Orange Blonde, which was EXTREMELY good. I have never tried any of their other beers, but, given my experience, there appears to be a lot of promise there. Overall, a very good experience. I recommend. I still think they need to cut down the sauce on their olive burger - by a lot. But the flavor was very good. And the burger was cooked to my liking. I will definitely visit again. I get to the Lansing area a few times a year, and I'll be back.

I just looked on their website. It is even smaller than the last time I was there. Since I am a light eater and traveling, I was stuck with 2 small salads or sides to choose from. I got a small Cesar and side of beer battered onion rings. Both were average at best. Waitress was AWOL most of the time. Music was loud so table conversations was a little hard. I suggested another place closer to the hotel with much better reviews for next year dinner before our meeting so I don't have to come back here. Many in our group agreed.
