It's always a fun experience when you stumble upon a business that winds up surprising you. That's exactly what happened at Stockton Fine Wines. It's located in the quaint town of Stockton, NJ. Once inside I was pleasantly surprised. I was greeted by a friendly and knowledgeable staff. This liquor store was much bigger than I expected. Everything is neatly displayed and organized. There are multiple rooms, with each room offering something different. There are two Wine rooms every bottle is neatly displayed and they carry so many different brands of fine wines from around the world. There is a Champagne room and they have a large variety to choose from. If that's not your thing they also have an IPA room, and in the front they have all name brands of Gin's, Vodka's, Rum's, Tequila's you name it, they have it. Stockton Fine Wines carries many brands of beers and IPA's that you can get cold, or by the 4-6 pack along with wines and champagnes. My boyfriend was so happy because he found one of his very favorite Single Malt which is hard to find in the US. ( I called 4 liquor stores and went through the owners and no one could get this except for Stockton Fine Wines.) It's a Hennessy White Single Malts 25th Anniversary Cognac. We've only been able to purchase it in the Caribbean or Mexico because they stop selling it in the states. They also have premixed drinks in cans, 15 different kinds of bitters. If there is one thing I know it is wines and Stockton Fine Wines has just that - a selection of very fine wines. From the whites to the reds they had a large selection. This place is one of the surviving stores on this strip of places thar have all unfortunately shut down in recent years. I can say with confidence though that I will continue to frequent Stockton fine wines so hopefully that will insure they do not shut down read more

I used to shop here years ago when Dick Phillips owned it. Have been in many times since. Current ownership is unfriendly and unpleasant. Called this morning to ask about certain wines, which I was going to select for a friend in the area Whoever answered the phone was short, rude told me to call back at 6PM. This was at 10AM. Was having staff shortages etc. Aren't we all? No excuses for rudeness. They lost a sale and I hope they realize that customer service is key in keeping and growing a business. read more

This place puts the fine in fine wine. You won't find too many bottles up front for under $100. They have a great vintage selection, but also a solid inventory of average priced wines in the back. Great customer service as well. The two times I've been here I was asked if I needed help. I'm pretty sure the owner spends a lot of time here so that's a testament to how well the place is run. They also offer 10% discounts on mixed cases and more aggressive discounts for case purchases of the same bottle. But they'll also let you mix and match and still give you 10% on the eligible bottles as long as you buy 12 bottles. The eligible discount bottles are pretty much anything on the shelves and not on the islands in the middle of the floor. read more

For New Hope/Lambertville residents, a 4 mile ride up river on Main Street/29 to Stockton to supplement your wine selection from the 2 wine stores in Lambertville and the PA State store in New Hope. Be careful of the speed trap set up by the Stockton police on most nights. Up the stairs to a small room has some special occasional California wine. Dick Phillips, the proprietor, is friendly and knowledgable. I used Phillips to supply me with my wedding alcohol. I worked with Marty and even though I had an idea of how much wine, beer, and liquor we needed he helped me figure out the cheapest way to buy it (whether to buy 750 ML bottles or just 1 L bottles). They delivered the wine to my venue a few days before the event and I didn't have to worry about transportation at all. Their return policy, though we didn't use it, seemed fair. They let you return up to 25% of your total order - excluding beer. They also gave a discount for using particular credit cards. Would recommend for an event! read more

I just LOVE Phillips. I'm like a kid in a candy store 'cept it's WINE & I want every other bottle. Dick Phillips is VERY helpful as is all of the staff. Sometimes I wish they would SELL ME MORE - but my husband is glad they do not...... They have room after room of WINE so be sure to keep going..... AND don't forget to go UPSTAIRS -- that is where the keep the REALLY GOOD STUFF....... Another good tip is to get Dick to sell you "special wine" that may not be on display. At the suggestion of the owner of the Lexington House B & B a few miles up the road, we visited this place for our weekend alcohol needs. We found the staff to be incredibly friendly and helpful. It's a family owned business - started years ago with just $400. Pretty impressive to hear how it's grown over the years, but still maintains its small mom-and-pop feel. We like the selection so much, on the way out of town we stopped and stocked up on things to take back to the city with us! read more

Suggestions from the staff here led me to buy what has become one of my favorite red wines and a great small batch sparkling white. One of the few things I miss about living in New Jersey is not having this store in my neighborhood. Tiny but incredibly well chosen selection of the very best spirits around. Really diverse selection of fine wines, especially grower Champagne and Burgundy. It's hard to find bottles of red Burgundy under $30 that don't taste like toe jam, but these guys consistently find really fine, affordable examples. They know how to buy wine, period. To address another reviewers comment regarding the owner/manager (sorry, I don't know his name), he does totally come off like a tool, but time after time, when I asked for ever more obscure wines that I love, the guy delivered. I dropped by the shop after having asked for a real rarity weeks before, without saying hello, he sees me and says "I got that wine for you". Killer. It's Jersey, get over it, I guess. A fantastic place to buy wines and booze. The owners are great - and very knowledgeable. Back in the old days (they've been around for years) we'd all cross the bridge from PA to get cheaper booze at a lower drinking age. (Man that was ages ago.) Quality wine retailers are a hard find and this location lives up to what every small boutique store should be. As a wine professional with experience working with quality wine, I never leave disappointed in my selections from this place and I can depend on this location to stock reliable producers. Also, if your a wine geek like myself and your looking for some unusual rarities, this is a huge go-to. If you live in the area around Stockton and you are not shopping for wine from this place, you need to visit this location. The staff is beyond knowledgable about what they are selling, there is an excellent selection in a wide variety of price points and often I travel 40 minutes just to visit this place. Yes, it's that good. There was somebody who left a 1 star about a couple of months back. I highly disagree with this individuals points. Obviously, this individual has some sort of bias attached with another less reputable retail location or hasn't had much experience with what a quality wine retail location looks like. I don't know where to begin, except to say this was once a wonderful wine store when it was owned by Dick Phillips. Suffice it to say that it is no longer. Truly a terrible place. Average selection. High prices. And possibly the most arrogant and unpleasant owner manager I have ever met. It is so sad to see the ruination of such a wonderful and iconic store. read more

Best selection, super helpful staff, and always willing to help put together a gift basket for special occasions/holidays. Great selection of wines (and beer and liquor). You are guaranteed to find something to fit your budget and palate here as they have everything from $6.99-$200+/bottle. It's a bit hard to navigate at first, the organization is partly by type of wine and partly by region, but the staff has always been very helpful in guiding me toward what I'm looking for, making suggestions based on other wines I like, or just letting me browse at my own pace. The prices are decent and comparable to other stores. Not a huge Pinot Grigio selection in the lower price ranges, but we found a delicious one in the end at a fair price.
