Sadly, quality control has left the premises. Bathrooms were never cleaned (or repaired in some cases) and the kitchen staff was 100% teens with no adult supervision. So, meals were incomplete or cold or required asking for the most basic things. Unlike in prior times, there were no activities offered, but that is less important than health and safety. My biggest issue was the main campfire left burning all day long with no one to attend to it, and with a box of matches sitting on a nearby log. Came up on Labor Day for 3 days I read the other reviews and wasn't sure what to expect. If your looking for upscale clamping this isn't the place for you. Stockton Family Camp is a very relaxed environment, quiet and peaceful. The camp is usually full of summer campers mostly family's with their kids. The have crafts, archery, hiking, volleyball there's more, they have showers, the lodge is nice there is outdoor seating with umbrellas surrounded by views of the Eldorado National Forest. The fire pit was great. We built a big fire and had s'mores. Bring extra S'more supplies for the ones who don't have any, sharing around the campfire was awesome and everyone can participate. The cabins are small but cozy and warm. We stayed in M2 and there are plenty of outlets, lighting, double pane windows 2 bunk beds and a full size bed a card table with 2 chairs and a cabinet for your things. Bring your bedding. And an ice chest. Remember you are in the mountains it gets cold at night. For us the weather was great. We canoed on Silver Lake and relaxed. It's beautiful. Canoes and kayaking is included in the fee. We came with a group so call for pricing. Oh yes! They do the cooking!!! Yes!! 3 meals a day everything was good. Breakfast they served fresh fruit, cereals bacon eggs biscuits and gravy lunch was sandwiches and dinners have been hamburgers, ribs, roast beef every meal had sides and/or desert and beverage but your welcome to bring your own. This is a non-profit so if you can see what you or your group can do to help the camp stay alive. There's a lot of potential For this camp but it's needs us to stay alive. I loved this place and had a great time. First Im NOT into camping and with that being said our little cabin was very simple a small table 1 closet and 4 bunk beds with 1 full size bed. Its has 2 windows on each side with very old mosquito screen that I filled in with napkins (the gaps). The people that come here have been doing so for years!! Literally 20+ or more so they have a sense of "ownership" and know everyone. It says Stockton Silver lake camp but its not in Stockton at all. They have day activities for the kids and smores and campfire songs at night. The cabins do not have bathrooms. You have to share with everyone else. There is hot water and shower area and toilets. For men, another for women. They also have washer and dryer and soap if you need to wash clothes. Towls are not be dried there only on your own clothes line. Everything is calm and relax and casual. Dinning is at 8am, 12 and 6pm. You can here the bell ring when its chow time. Cafeteria style food with everyone sitting together inside or out. The food is basic and included. If you leave on hike you can request a bag lunch the night before to take with you. They have coffe and water always (coffee is bad) and PB&J if you get hungry in between. There are no locks on anything and everyone is very polite and respectful. The food is always enough, some people would even get seconds but it does tend to be bland and repetitive. The flamingo ladies that have a main cabin seem to be the ones that know everyone. They dont like noise after 9pm but they are up super early. You will know what cabin by the flamingos and they host a margarita night where everyone takes a dish, snack and or tequila to share. They stamp a flamingo on you (its a inside joke). There is a little store for snacks and t-shirts and sweat shirts. We bought some and my kids won 2 t-shirts hunting for wooden bears. That they secretly placed through out the camp (in safe areas). They also have free paddle boards and kayaks. You have to drive to get to them, then walk a bit, but so worth it, its just difficult to find its all most hidden. You unlock everything and lock it back up when you leave. You sign up for that, we had no trouble and did it 2 days of the 3 we were there. To hike you need to have a guide take you. Our friend that invited us has been going there for over 30 years!! She showed us the trail (after about driving 15mins) and a hidden swim hole. It was so gorgeous!!! Patrons donate money to the camp to keep it going and I think thats why they feel its theirs. But it belongs to the city of Stockton. We took up the G section and were too loud the first night it seems. Ooops, next night we tried to keep it down. Hahaha. Anyways I loved the whole thing. ***Tips-take board games and books to read. ***Tons of mosquito repelent and those bug raquets that zap flies. **Take comfy old clothes. Hot during the day very cold at night. Boots for hiking. **Flashlights and coffee machine or contraption. I did and enjoyed my coffee every morning outside my cabin. **Take extension cords!! There was only 1 plug in the wall. This saved us big time and all the cell phone charging. ***There is no reception only wifi in 1 spot so try and let it go. I know its hard!!! **Blankets and linnens or sleeping bags. Snacks and alcohol for the night time when it gets boring. **Portable speakers and camping chairs and table. Enjoy the trees and the scenery. We reserved in December of 2015 to go in July 2016. They are only open 3 months of the year. I think? Everyone was nice and helpfull. Its very family oriented. We love going to Silver Lake every year with our family and friends and have been coming since 1983. This year we are bringing a third generation of campers and are excited to pass on this tradition to them. Pros: food included in cost, no need to pack it in! Communal dining is a great way to meet everyone. Showers, washers and dryers, running water near cabins, a little market to buy treats and shirts/sweatshirts, wifi (only near dining hall), activities including crafts for the kids and tie dye, volleyball, nightly singalong around the camp fire and s'mores, talent show. They have a big library or take and leave books and lots of board games to play in quiet evenings. Cabins have interior lights, 2 bunk beds and 1 full bed. A nurse is on site. There is a great sense of community and comraderie. Very family friendly. Pets are okay (with a minimal fee). Plasses market is just down the road for necessities. Cons: Mosquitos in wet years, cabins are a tight squeeze if you have more than 3 or 4 people. There are mice around, so keep food put away. The furniture in cabins is pretty worn, but it's camping so new stuff wouldn't make sense. No cell service, as it is at the bottom of a valley. Suggestions: boots, extra socks, bug spray. If you want a sack lunch the next day you need to order by dinner time. You can now book online, which is awesome! If there is one cabin you really want reserve it for the next year before you leave! read more

Ron and the entire staff of Stockton Family Camp at Silver Lake made our wedding the best day of my life. There isn't a single thing I'd change, and this was the perfect venue for us and for anyone who wants to throw a raging barn burner party! The staff here is above and beyond- we anticipated a very DIY situation, but the staff offloaded so much work from us. They were officially in charge of the food only but did so much more than that. They cleaned the camp, bartended for us, oversaw much of the decor set up and breakdown, served food outside normal hours because people are never on time to meals, found stuff we needed.... You name it, they did it for us and never made us feel like we owed them a thing. These are great people to work with in an absolutely stunning location, and they enabled us to throw one hell of a party. My husband and I can't thank them enough for making us and our guests so comfortable. We can't recommend this venue enough!!! Wow ... a great place to relax in the high Sierra. Everyone is friendly and helpful. The best part is that I don't have to do any cooking and don't have to sleep on the ground. There is a dedicated Kid Craft lady on staff and for the 2013 season there will be an adult instructor for jewelry making. read more

This is a wonderful place for families. The beauty of nature is all around you and there are LOTS of activities available for every age. It's camping without the work! We went for a three night vacation to primarily enjoy swimming in the lake. Wow ! Not what we expected at all. 1. Their website said : Basking on a sandy beach. They don't tell you that the sandy beach is not within walking distance from the camp - you have to drive down the highway a few miles to get to it. 2. Cabin we stayed in was so deteriorated and run down that I had to turn into a repair man immediately to try to patch up a broken window and a damaged screen so the hordes of mosquitoes wont come inside at night. 3. The food was filling but seemed rather bland and sometimes under-cooked. 4. Lots of activities that's true but there was nothing inside the cabins to read to know what they were (i.e. I heard by sheer accident that there was a hiking guide available to take groups with them to hike the trails ) read more
