I had such high hopes for this company. I contacted them and they promptly sent out a nice young guy on June 1 to review the jobs I needed done. I was working with a deadline and was assured that once I accepted their bid, they could most likely start the job in a couple of weeks. Within a couple of days I received their written estimate. So far so good... The amount was a little higher than I had expected, so I contacted the company to say that I still wanted to use them, but I wanted to remove a couple of small things from the estimate. I was assured by both father (Greg?) and son, Brandon, that they would send me the revised estimate. Three days passed and I heard nothing from them. I called them 3 more times over the course of a week and a half and each time was assured they would send me the revised estimate ASAP. Well, y never got it. They basically strung me along and wasted my time. How unprofessional and disrespectful! If they couldn't or didn't want to do the job, why didn't they just say so? I'm really disillusioned. I wanted to use a local company, but they really let me down. read more

DO NOT RECOMMEND! They were hired to replace my shower door and did an absolute horrible job. In addition, while replacing my shower door the handyman put a hole in my wall and scratched my sink and painted over it to cover it up. When I confronted him about my sink, he said, "I don't know what you're talking about" and hung up on me. They did send someone out to "fix" the shower but the work was so bad, the second guy could only do so much. Two months later, I had to replace to hire someone else to replace my sink. We hired Stokeys about 1.5 yrs ago to fix an issue we had with our master bathroom toilet. The toilet was located on a concrete slab that required leveling. Additional concrete was set to level the ground and a new toilet was installed. 1.5 yrs later, the toilet didn't flush, it would rock back and forth, and would leak when plunged. We hired a plumbing company to take a look. When they lifted the toilet, they noticed the flange was too high and the toilet was set directly on the flange with little room for wax. This would explain the leak and why the toilet would rock back and forth. Once work began, they noticed the flange was not properly secured. To their surprise, the flange easily came off and appears to have been secured to the ground using a type of adhesive. The plumbers indicated that the toilet could have been rocking because the flange was to high or because the flange was not properly secured to the ground. In either case, both were done incorrectly. They did the concrete work just fine but I'd recommend leaving the installation of a new toilet to someone else. read more

Brandon did a great job stabilizing our dishwasher. He was friendly and conscientious about keeping the floors and his work area clean. I had popcorn ceiling removed on two ceilings, and they not only were willing to do the task but the only reasonable estimate I received. This is an update to past work from Stokey's. I had them repair my shed doors about 1-1/2 yrs ago. About 3 months ago the door has already started falling apart and I will have to hire someone AGAIN to see if they can repair or probably rebuild my shed doors. I also have not been able to properly open the right side of the door without having to pull to hard and risk damaging the door further. So aggravated. read more

My husband and I hired Stokey's to do a variety of projects and we would not recommend them at all. There were a significant number of miscommunications, both during the proposal process as well as during the projects, their craftsmanship was amateur at best, they arrived late every day (an hour late), and the worst thing was, they ended up causing water damage to our kitchen ceiling. The initial walk through was fine and Greg was pleasant to start. However, getting a final bid was a nuisance, as Greg does not handle any of his invoicing or administrative tasks, so details kept getting left out or lost in translation. We had several back and forth emails with his colleague Tiffany (I believe she is also his wife), who then had to go back to Greg to verify, and it was several weeks until we had agreement on the work. This should have been our ultimate red flag to withdraw ourselves from hiring them. We initially hired them to do a variety of projects including rebuilding our front porch, repairing a few areas of siding that had dry rot, fixing plumping on our upstairs bathroom, and a couple other projects. The front porch rebuild was a disaster. The wood was the incorrect size and it was not sanded at all before being nailed in. We had to ask them to go back to the hardware store and obtain wood that was the correct size and rebuild again. The plumbing repair was a bigger disaster. As I was cooking dinner in the kitchen, I suddenly hear water rushing through down through my ceiling light fixtures. Apparently Greg's assistant, Tracey, had removed the pipe while the upstairs bathtub was draining. Tracey's mistakes caused significant damage to our ceiling. We were stunned and frustrated and told them to finish the front porch but do not start any other projects. We told them we would get an estimate for the ceiling repair and to remove the estimated cost from the final invoice. Rather than graciously moving on and accepting our decision, Greg called my husband proceeded to lecture him saying, "I've been doing this longer than you've been alive. Haven't you ever made a mistake? Everyone deserves second chances. Tracey had a bad day, blah blah blah..." My husband could not get a word in because Greg talks a lot. I told him to hand the phone to me and he told me the same sob story, asking us to let him finish all the projects. At this point I was livid. I told him to finish the front porch and we will go from there if we are satisfied. I also told him to check in with us before making key decisions and just generally check in frequently so we could kind of monitor things, given what had happened. Greg did not remember to check in, and my husband had to literally keep an eye on him. A few other irritating things to note is that Greg lives in Tacoma and was difficult to schedule (we live in Seattle). He did three days of work and was only able to come up one day a week, so it took three weeks to literally do a front porch repair and one dry rot repair on our rear siding. Additionally, he lost our black screws for our porch handrail and used regular silver screws instead, installed them in crooked, and stripped the screws. We had to ask him to replace the screws and put them in straight. Also, he forgot our paint at his house and had to go back to the hard ware store to buy more paint, which of course resulted in more time and materials on the job. Lastly, the final invoice was incorrect and it included receipts that were not ours, so we had to ask them to remove them. All in all, a horrifying experience and a nuisance to work with and I am so glad this engagement is over. read more

Greg replaced 2 exterior doors for us. One required finding a funky size for the backyard garage entry, which he did for us - a big time save for us. He came, as scheduled and the work is good quality. It took longer than anticipated (typical old house stuff) and he stuck with the original quote. Easy to work with. Definitely recommend. Update: lock on the funky garage door was sticky. He came back to fix it and it's great. Again, old house, jamb not true, not a quick job but included in the original fee. Scheduling can take time but worth it in my opinion for getting someone with the skills to do the job and the work ethic to do it right. read more

I just had two guys come out and replace a broken sump pump for me. They were really nice and professional. They seemed really knowledgeable and did a great job with the pump. I called Tiffany for a last min help on getting my front porch columns repaired before I list my home for sale. Tiffany went out of her way to get me taken care of ASAP (Go Lions!) Greg came out and in a matter of a few hours it was done! I listed the house and it sold in 2 days. Great job and I will be contacting them to do some more work on the new house I purchased. Had a great experience. Stayed at the original quote even after the scope expanded a little bit. Very quick and knowledgeable.

Would not recommend. Hired Stokey's to finish a basement. The job took much longer than anticipated because they cut the lines to my heat pump system which took a few days to get HVAC repair people out to fix and broke the line to my sub pump. Mistakes happen, and these problems were fixed, but it did cause delays. The larger issue was the extreme poor quality of the drywall work. Greg was the main person at the job at all times. The mudding was just caked on, not flat at all. There wasn't even tape used at seams used in places. Just gaps. And this was newly installed drywall. Greg was the last person to leave the job, did not do a walk through because I'm sure he knew how bad it looked, and basically just told us it was done. We called them back to fix it, and Greg allotted two hours after hours to do it. Greg came back with another guy and then left him the task, which of course couldn't be completed in such a short time and one guy. Still no final walk through. Finally, when we refused to pay, Greg blamed the guy who was there the least amount of time, said he told him he was doing a bad job, and then said he'd come back to fix it for real. We had a vacation planned, and Greg came back after with a crew of three and took three days to fix the poor work on the job. It does look better, but "better" is just an improvement from awful. I am just glad the work is in my basement and not a main living area. In addition to the shoddy work, there was a complete disregard of my property. We had moved some things into the basement after the first period of work was done, and they didn't tarp anything except a small portion of my desk to remud. They got mud all over my peleton, a gym mat on the floor which they walked all over in their boots, and multiple other minor things and didn't even wipe it off. Greg parked in my garden and drove his truck on my plants. When they came back for the repairs and I asked him not to park on my plants, he did anyway and blamed other guys even though his truck was at that moment in my garden! The final bill had additional fees that were not itemized so I have no idea what it was for. When asked to have it itemized before I pay, they removed it and said Greg agreed not to charge for lighting and ceiling repair, which I have no idea what that means since he built the ceiling and installed the lights. I wasn't made aware of any repairs except for the things they broke. Greg blamed everyone else for issues instead of just not creating them in the first place. His crew was a bunch of really nice guys, and I felt bad for them. I do not think he brought qualified people and basically took my money. I am terrified about what work was done behind the drywall I can't see. read more

I had Stokey's come out today to repair a rotted fence post and put a new metal exterior door assembly on the side of my garage where the old framework had rotted. The crew showed up exactly on time and got straight to work, finishing both projects in timely fashion. They hauled away all of the old materials and left everything like they had never been there. I would (and do) recommend them highly for your handyman needs. read more

Not recommended. Made an appt for a consult because the appt maker required it. We wud have just liked to have the repairs done the first aptt. However played along but then got a email asking to move the consult appt to a week later. 20 minutes b4 the appt he called to tell us he ( the owner) could not make it because an employee has been sick and it was just a consult right? He didn't even know what the appt was for! And obviously did not care we were waiting at our house that we are not even living at yet but moving into next week and needed some minor repairs. He did not apologize or even seem interested in rescheduling. Guess when u get good reviews on yelp and get a lot of business as a result some businesses begin to not care and throw courtesy and caring out the door! read more

My elderly mother needed a couple of holes repaired along her roofline after squirrels had gotten in and made a home. We called a couple of roofing companies first. One insisted the entire roof needed to be replaced for $16,000. The next roofer said he couldn't fix the holes until he had power washed the entire house for $700. I then called Stokey's since they were a "professional handyman" service. Tiffany worked hard to find an opening in their busy schedule that would work with my busy schedule. When Greg, the owner and main repairman, came to examine the roof, he gave us an incredibly reasonable quote to fix only what needed fixing. He patched the roof, making an extra run to the shop to get just the right materials, and stuck to his original estimate, even though the work took a little longer than he'd planned. After dealing with unscrupulous services who saw a chance to swindle an elderly woman, finding Stokey's and working with Tiffany and Greg has totally restored my faith in humanity -- at least in the good, decent, people of Tacoma. Do you need an honest, diligent repair service? Call Stokey's. I can't recommend them highly enough. read more
