I really love this little shop. There are vintage as well as new books, some gifts and custom framing. It is right downtown Geneva with plenty of parking. I bought a blind date book for a friend for $5 it was pre wrapped and had a few descriptors- a fun idea for a small gift. This is typically where my husband gets gifts for me and I am always happy- so it is well curated. If you are looking for a massive book store with every title this is not the spot- but if you want to shop local and have an open mind you may find some treasures. read more

Stomping grounds is a very fun, small town bookstore in the heart of downtown Geneva. They have a wide collection from new releases to classics. The folks who run this store are extremely kind (and very engaging on social media). My favorite promotion they run is a book "blind date" where they wrap a book up and write small details about it on the wrapping and you pay around $5 for a completely unknown book to expand your library. Awesome place! A lot of eclectic goods and I could see coming here often if I lived in the area. I found a darling little book on dogs for a gift for a child. I have always been intrigued by "blind date books" so I browsed all the brown bag covers to select the book to be surprised with. Not sure what a blind date book is? It's a book that the shop owner has wrapped in brown paper and written a few clues on the cover asked of the type of book that it is. You buy it like that and are them surprised when you unwrap it. For only $5 (as it's a used book at this store) it's a fun experience. read more

This used to be something else...imo, it used to be a better shop. Not sure what happened to it tho. It closed and this opened. Books, books, and more books! Picture framing, literally knick knacks, ya know like a little gift shop. I see this being popular with the tourists. Geneva is smack dab in the center of the Finger Lakes region. So we have Finger lakes, and lots of lots of wineries! Wine country, baby! Amazing wineries! Geneva is located near sooooo many of them. So with that, tourists flock here, lol. People are f**kin wino's nowadays and here....they feel like they are in Heaven lol. It's scenic throughout this area too. So with the wine country, the lakes, people are treated to some great times in this area. The locals, meh, they love the wineries, lol. With all the wineries and Geneva being located right along, Seneca Lake...there will obviously be little shops like, Stomping Grounds. For a local, they'll almost never go in here. Why? Because they live here and they couldn't careless about stores like this, lol. Sure, many do go there, I'm sure, but it's clearly targeted towards the tourists. It's pricey, too. Again, that's why locals won't go in, lol. It's a cute little store, don't get me wrong, but for me, I'm just like...meh, ok, whatevs lol. They were kinda standoffish in there too. Didn't seem too eager to help me. I'm no longer a local, haven't been for 20 years, but I come every year. I think they looked at me like I was a local and that's why they really had no desire to help me. Who knows. If you're a tourist and you scream TOURIST by the way you look, dress, etc...(tourists always stick out like sore thumbs lol) then these people will be super eager to assist you. I could be wrong in my assumption of these people, but I don't think I'm far off lol. Anyway, I will repeat tho, it is a cute little downtown store. Has a homey feel to it. The smell of air freshener or whatever they have going on in there is a tad overwhelming, but I guess I'm just sensitive to that sort of thing. If you're visiting and you read this, check it out. I went there to have a picture framed, ( a gift for a friend) very helpful, showed me many choose ,explained her opinion on frames and matting colors but never pushed her opinion. went over the prices of my options. When I went to pick it up , they were singing with the music being played in the store, they have some Beautiful voices . The finished item was a hit , with myself and the recipient. Stomping Grounds has moved from Exchange Street to Castle Street, right around the corner and one block over. They scored and became tenants in the old Annie Walker gift shop space, which is a gorgeous building. This store specializes is books of all kinds which is cool today in this digital age. Where they shine IMO is their frame section with an amazing selection of custom frames, some "ready made" frames, very reasonably priced I might add. There is an array of choices and the man in this husband/wife team spent a significant amount of time with me showing me options for a project I need help completing. I am going back soon to get my wedding photo framed! This is also a gift/furniture/rug/coffee shop. Yes these ambitious people have all bases covered in this truly beautiful store. Upstairs is a whole open floor with a coffee/tea bar, adorable seating options, a gorgeous piano and beautiful beam work, redone original floors. I was blown away. This is a game changer in Geneva people and I want to share my love of this awesome store. Check it out!!!!! read more

We visited this small gift store on Seneca Street in Geneva for the first time this week. It is adorable and you may find a treasure inside -- my mom found a beautiful turquoise necklace for a fraction of the price it was worth. I found a candle for a holiday gift and it was fun to look around at the interesting books and gifts. read more

I was in town visiting the college and went to explore downtown Geneva. I happened to find Stomping Grounds. It was a beautiful store. It was clean and elegant with plenty of unique items. The front display room was set up beautifully. The upstairs was even more beautiful! The owners created a space for students and individuals looking for a quiet study space. The idea and outcome was quite charming. The owners were extremely friendly and willing to share their vision and aspirations for their store with me. They made you feel welcome to and part of the town. The have created a store that celebrates both the old and the new of Geneva. They are a true example of what Geneva needs. read more

Very good place to pick up a present. I stopped on the way to a birthday dinner the other night, and found a fun set of bookends. When I told the shop keeper that I was on my way to give it as a gift, she added a ribbon. It was a nice touch. read more

I bought a very fine painting by Michael Bogan as a surprise birthday present for my wife. She loves it. Together, we took it to Stomping Grounds to pick out a frame. After we mulled over several options which we had selected, Beth gently suggested a different kind of frame which she thought would work best, not something which immediately struck us as what we were looking for. But we quickly saw that Beth had nailed it. Then she talked us into a wider mat than we had initially conceived. The final product is phenom. The framing really displays Professor Bogan's painting in a superb way, without calling attention to itself. The framing was complicated because the paint has some thickness and texture and the glass had to be spaced a little off the surface. We went with no-glare glass and acid free matting, a little more expensive, but the painting deserves the best and we got that at Stomping Grounds. read more
