Quartz, Butte Opals, Sardonyx, pieces from India, Uruguay, even native Nevada, just to name a few. Whether you're a rock hound or a mineral collector, this is your house. Are you new to collecting? They have several books and the crew is very knowledgeable and patient. I'm told the quality and the prices are impressive. I'm impressed with the overall display. This and the Comstock Rock Shop are "sister stores" that are commonly owned, and in my opinion the best place to stop and shop in Virginia City. The earrings and rings are well priced, and include silver posts (which my ears prefer.). I purchased a lot of well priced earrings while I was here (I lose so many pairs) and really wish I would have gotten more. Customer service is friendly, but not pushy. Despite all the great gold rush history (check out the school museum if you visit and the Comstock cemetery) Virginia City is, for the most part is a tourist town, but if you are shopping, this is at least a fun rewarding place to do that. This is a really cool shop to check out. Their displays of stones, crystals, and gems are beautiful. It is ok just to walk around and look. The name of their shop can be taken a couple of ways: they have fossils that are really old, and stones of all ages. Their prices are reasonable. We got a small double terminated herkimer diamond for a gift--these are hard to find, and a fossilized piece of amber with an insect in it. If you go there, and you don't see what you want, ask and they may have it. We didn't see the amber or herkimer diamonds, and asked--and they had them! read more

We absolutely love coming into this store. They have so many different stones and gems! When you walk in there is so much to look at from pendants, earring, wind chimes, book holders, necklaces, and stuff to put on your shelves or walls! The staff is always very friendly and helpful. They can tell you all about the Stones and what energies they give off. It's a little pricey but well worth it! We come here evey time were in Virginia City and there is always something new. read more

This is one of the best rock shops I've ever been to! They have a lot of inventory and everything is clearly labeled including prices. The customer service went above and beyond my expectations. (And I work in the service industry so my expectations are high) They include a description with each stone, which is so awesome. Sometimes you buy something and forget what it was then have to scour the internet to figure it out. The prices were also really good to me. Since things shut down I've had to buy things online and that is such a gamble. So this was a nice treat! I wish we had one in Gresham Oregon! read more

Note: The 2 rock shops on the main drag in Virginia City (Stone Age Quarry and Comstock Rock Shop) are commonly owned. They're across the street from each other (maybe a block removed) and feature similar rock stock and the same counter staff. For some reason, David and I liked Stone Age Quarry better. This place has a nice selection that is well displayed. Plus on this cold December day, the heater worked well. David loves these kind of shops and subsequently found something for him and a gift for his Mom. I had some ideas of my own, but maybe next time. And with my Son, we will be here again. He loved Virginia City, which at one level he favorably compared to a giant yard sale. read more
