As a frequent visitor from the Bay Area, I have frequented this shop every time I've come to Reno. My first disappointment occurred when my husband discovered the grape agate I purchased a year ago had been dyed purple. Today was my second disappointment. I purchased a crystal that was advertised as "Natural Citrine...Madagascar". When I brought it back to our hotel, my husband who is way more versed than me in crystals informed me it was likely quartz that had been fired on a kiln rather than naturally heated over a very long period of time by natural forces. I called and asked if I could return it without a receipt and was told I could. The woman I spoke with on the phone was very rude when I came into the store. She changed her story and said items were only exchangeable without a receipt. I said I did not know that and would have appreciated it if she had told me that on the phone. She responded, "well now you know". She told me the owner made a one time exception. I'm done. I have spent hundreds of dollars at this store. Not the thousands some spend, but I looked forward to visiting it every time I came to Reno. The lack of honesty about some of the products as well as this woman's blatant rudeness have put an end to my patronage. RIP to my years long relationship with Stone Age Quarry. read more

This store has rows upon rows of beautiful crystals, rocks and jewelry, etc. There is something for everyone here and their prices are very reasonable, and less than other shops around town. Quality and great prices! Staff is super knowledgable and the store is clean and well organized. I've purchased a number of items here, but my favorite are the Rose Quartz Gua Sha stones. The Reno Stone Age Quarry is my absolute favorite place to get crystals, minerals, rocks, and fossils! The best part of the store in my opinion is the glass cases with the small pieces. All pieces are labeled very clearly and each type has a variety of colors and shapes to choose from. A word of advice: always go with your first instinct when choosing ;) The workers are always very nice and patient with me as I stand there asking them to take out and put back 1000 things :) most of them seem to genuinely enjoy helping and seem to love their job. I had this very sweet lady today who had such interesting facts about each crystal / rock I was looking at. For those hunting for jade, aquamarine, or super purple amethyst go now! Above all, the prices just can't be beat. I have been to probably 30 stores like this throughout California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona. Stone Age Reno has them all beat with prices. read more

After more than 30 years, I finally bought an amethyst cathedral. It was a big deal for me, my hands were shaky, and the woman helping me went the extra mile to box up the beautiful geologic specimen! I have been a customer at Stone Age for nearly 20 years, but I have never bought such a big ticket item. They made it easy, secure... and, dare I say it? Maybe I'll buy more?! Of course I will. This is a great ship. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. A great, clean, understanding environment. I also have two boys that sometimes can't help themselves, even with our intervention: they put all the magnetite together, with nary a complaint from the staff: thank you!!! read more

This place is a gem! Ha! I first stumbled upon this little shop when the hubs and I visited Reno before moving here. It may seem crazy but I wanted to be sure there was some sort of rock/crystal shop in town, because 1. I think it's critical to buy stones from a store so you can connect with them and 2. because I think having a store like this in town tells you a little bit about the type of people in the area. I like this store (and the one they have in Virginia City) and have gotten many of crystals and rocks from both locations. They usually have a great selection plus they offer a variety of minerals with varying quality, size, and price point. They have an annual sale once a year where everything in the store is 20% off. Last year I spent several hundred dollars on some big pieces. No regrets, right? Hoping to get some big ones again this year. They're Reno location is in a strip mall by the airport with some other cool shops and the Crepe place so I usually treat myself to a crepe and a walk through this store at least month a month. We came here with a sweet friend looking for Christmas gifts. My friend recently got into the magic of what crystals hold behind them and this was the best place for us all to learn a little. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. My youngest she was going all around the store picking items and they didnt get upset at all that she was considering a lot of stuff in there were fragile. I found out about Stone Age through Lauren at European Wax. Lauren has a beautiful altar in work area. I had been in search for my own pieces for work and home. I decided to stop by and see if I could find what I was looking for. Stone Age is located in the same shopping center as Costco. This place is pretty cool. They have a vast collection of rocks, minerals and jewelry. They also have books on rocks and minerals if you're willing to learn more about them and their properties.Their items are reasonably priced. Unfortunately I did not find what I was looking for but am interested in visiting their location in Virginia City. I read Jeanna's post about having a sale every year, I'm definitely going to mark my calendar as I will be looking for bigger pieces! read more

I can't really speak to the service here since we didn't need to ask questions. The place was busier than I'd expect for the middle of the day during the week. It looked like many people had particular projects or things they needed. We were just looking for some crystals for a birthday present and had a budget of $20. We found some bracelets and quartz crystals. They have some magnificent looking specimens! As a rock and mineral lover, I think this is a really cool store. It seems like they have something to fit anyone's budget. After paying, the lady asked us if we wanted information on the minerals we had bought, and she wrapped up the crystals with the little sheet of paper. I'd definitely return! They have beautiful crystal and rock selection but a lot of the smaller crystals were a dollar for one dime size, I feel like it should have been 2 for a dollar. Definitely pricy. We also bought a couple amethyst clusters and a sister geode, one massive geode broken into 2 pieces, therefore called a sister geode. Newly they have brought in some younger staff which I do think was needed as crystals are growing in popularity and I think it's important to have people of all ages working there so everyone can have a person to speak with that is on their level. The prices always blow my socks off as it is very affordable. The more time progresses I am seeing more maybe not authentic (whole sale, possibly purchased from wish or eBay or some equivalent) which I'm not super into but otherwise it's lots of beautiful pieces, mostly great staff and incredible prices. read more

I was getting my tires rotated and balanced at Costco, so did some scouting at the nearby strip mall surrounding our local warehouse. The Stone Age Quarry was listed as a jewelry store on my smartphone, and it is that and so much more. I was totally fascinated by the wonderful curated displays (on shelves, glass cases, and counters) of stones, stonework ,and artistic items made from said materials. Boxes, tables, fountains, objets d'art, carved items...they are all on display and there are price points from a few dollars to thousands all in one room. Everything was referenced geographically and by name of stone so it is quite an education just to shop here! It would truly be hard to not find something that you "have to have" here- a great place for unique gifts as well. A lovely jewelry display was also accompanied with a diverse selection of pendants and separate silver necklaces so you can customize a necklace. I will definitely be coming back when I can afford some new jewelry. As it was, I thoroughly enjoyed browsing and had a delightful conversation with the woman who worked behind the counter. She told me they and been at this location in Reno for 15 years- and to think it is just across the way from America's favorite warehouse store! Good thing my tires needed some work, or I would have never been to this unique and exceptional store. I'll be back! read more

This place is great! they have every stone you could want at very affordable prices. I got one small stone, a necklace, and a wind chime for $35. Used to love this place. I am a total rockhound and they have a lot of beautiful rocks. Everything changed when I I took some of my rocks in to ask if they happened to know what they were. I had asked the owner during a previous visit if he minded and could possible tell me what some are and he said it was fine and to bring them one. Well he wasn't there when I was able to make it there again. But the lady who was working there was so rude and made me feel like I was taking like I was trying to sell her something. It's not like I don't buy things when I go in there. And it's not like I took a 30 minutes of her time. I took about two minutes and she was rude. I may be a bit sensitive, she made it so I will never go in there again. read more

This store is my go-to for fun unique gifts that fit any budget. From jewelry to salt lamps to chess sets to big gigantic rocks, they have something for everyone! I always end up here at Valentine's Day to purchase a stone buddha for my boyfriend, but this year they were all sold out :*( I purchased a cat carving instead. They get really busy before Valentine's Day/Christmas so if you have something specific in mind definitely go ahead of time. I love their small greeting card selection and all the cards are tree-free. The cards have beautiful illustrations and are geared towards the namaste/chakra crowd for the most part, but there a few funny/cute cards. They have quite a few blank cards for any occasion that would please just about anyone. All the envelopes are unique to each card and very pretty. I love that none of the cards are too wordy. Their selection of stones and crystals is AMAZING with the stones place of origin clearly marked. They have a Nevada section that is pretty cool if you want something with the energy of our home. They have quite an array of sizes which is great because there's something for every budget. One day I would love a giant Brazilian Fire and Ice crystal that goes for $75+ but am pleased settling with a smaller crystal for $10 in the meantime. The Virginia City store is also wonderful with most of the same selection if you have the time to cruise up there and check it out. read more

I have always loved this store. Great products and It was always pleasant. Today I took my 91 year old friend to Stone Age Quarry to do her Christmas shopping. We were at the counter shopping for bracelets, making sets, and were asked at least 4 times if we were done...not in a pleasant way, and exasperation when we wanted to continue to shop. We thought they must have been close to closing time. My friend really wanted to keep shopping, but we felt rushed and unwelcome. When I complained to the woman who seemed to be a manage was told that they were very busy, so... I told her I was very disappointed. Man this place is so neat..... no matter how many times I'm there I am always impressed by the beauty of their stock. Every employee has been helpful in both their Reno and Virginia City shops. I came in looking for a ring and the woman working made it pretty clear she had no interest in helping me select one. I was looking at rings that were over $20-$30 and I had questions and was looking for assistance to pick one out. Instead she just handed them to me and did not say much and then left me to help another customer even though I was not done needing assistance. Really disappointing because I love the store, but did not get very good customer service and left with no ring. read more

Even on a tight budget, I was able to find a beautiful fossil for only $30 (including the stand) and we got lots of other fun little beads and minerals. What a great place! Between Reno, Virginia City, and Carson Ciy, we are blessed with a good selection of shops that specialize in entertaining rock hounds. These folks had some amazing specimens to dazzle the eye and heart. Beautiful displays and well thought out lighting really highlight the merchandise and beckon one to linger and enjoy the crystal's as they change and sparkle with the changing light coming through the window. The prices (as in most of our local shops) are pretty fair compared to Tahoe and major cities. There is definitely something for everyone and some smaller specimens (with matching small prices .50-$2!) to encourage a young child to spend a little of their budget and start or add to their first rock collection. Even if you aren't a rock hound (yet!) Stone Age Quarry is a fun place to stop, sure to dazzle the eye! read more
