I have to admit, I would normally not venture into a store like Stone Age. Well, that was before! My husband gave me a ring (star sapphire) which has been twisted, bent and generally abused (by me) for the first 20 years - because I never took it off. As a result, the ring had been repaired many times, by jewelers from Dallas to Panama City, FL. Each one would tell me, "This will not last long, you will have to have it reset." But, I loved the unique setting and none of them could offer anything even close. So, the ring sat in my jewelry box for years. My husband had it repaired (again) and surprised me on our 25th wedding anniversary - as we renewed our vows and once again, he put the star sapphire on my hand as he had done at the Clerk's office 25 years earlier. The repair lasted one day...and it broke again. And it has been tucked away for another 7 years. Someone was telling me about Stone Age and suggested I go and talk to the owner about my ring. So, I did. My husband and I ventured into the store....and before we could even get to the owner, we were pleasantly surprised. Not only is the store very unique, but it is clean and well lit! This may not seem like much to some, but to me - it is very important. When we walked in, we were met by a very nice young woman with auburn hair (I forget names, in fact I always tell people I put name tags on my kids)...who greeted us and asked if we needed any help and I told her about the ring. She said the owner was with a customer at the moment, but she would let him know we were waiting to see him. When she returned, she told us about the store and we really enjoyed looking around. She was able to answer every question we had without hesitation. When we were able to see the owner (it was only a few minutes wait) I showed him the ring. He seemed very confident in being able to find the same or very close setting to the one I fell in love with in 1979! And HE DID! He ordered the setting and set my precious star sapphire into its new, but familiar home - and I was so pleased when I received the call telling me it was ready to pick up. The second visit to the store was even more delightful, as I was picking up my ring!!! It also provided some time for me to browse the store more thoroughly and pick out some incredible Christmas gifts for my kids, nieces and nephews! There was even something special for my brother-in-law who used to go to all of the Live Aid concerts years ago. So, I guess it is fair to say, I have fallen in love with this store. Okay, Stone Age is one Tallahassee's rarest gems. In a matter of fact, Stone Age is one of the only reasons I visit the Tallahassee Mall, save the next door Bath and Body Works and the cellular store. This unique store offers a wide range of gifts, eccentric knick knacks, and hard to find items. Best of all, the staff is amazing. Everyone is extremely inviting, helpful, and knowledgabe. These people don't just work there, they seem to take a sincere interest in the full array of items being sold. If you want to know how to make Elderberry Tea, there's an employee for that! If you have questions about crystals, there's an employee for that! If you need someone to send you a picture through text message of the handcarved furniture set in the window, THERE IS ACTUALLY AN EMPLOYEE FOR THAT. I wish every retail location would take notice of the culture. Even when I don't buy anything, I can spend hours in Stone Age looking through their huge selection of stones, fine soaps, herbs, and more. I have only been here in Tally for 3 years now, and the first mall that I went to was the Tallahassee mall. I was going to go see a movie, I arrived at the mall early so that I could look around a bit, and I soon found that this mall is dead. The only store that looked good at all was Stone Age, so I went in and looked around and I was instantly hooked. I was greeted the moment I walked in and asked if I need any help. Not only was the service wonderful, but the store alone is so big and beautiful but for a new age store it is very reasonable priced. I have only seen one other new aged store here in Tally, and not only was the store small and with very little selection, but what they did have it was WAY over priced. Not only is Stone Age bigger and better, but most of the jewelry sold there is beautifully hand made by the owner, and not just manufactured in mass quantity's. I stumbled across this store one day and I was shocked. It's huge and offers awesome and eccentric gifts from wall to wall. I loved those hard to find banners that I have found up to twice as much in other stores. They even have a unique offering of clothing, which I found to be cute! The best part about Stone Age is the service. Although I didn't know what everything was or how to use some of the products, the staff was willing to walk me through and answer any of my questions. Since I have skin allergies, the hand crafted all natural soap has worked miracles for me. They opened my eyes to an entirely different world, and I am forever grateful I stumbled across Stone Age. I don't understand the one star reviews, but my experience here was very positive. I am not sure who helped me, but I am guessing it was probably the owners wife. She was VERY kind and compassionate when I walked in. Yes, sure she was behind the counter near the register working on her computer with some crystals. I was distraught, not knowing what I needed or wanted. She was very knowledgeable with the crystals and I bet you she probably knows all of them that are listed in the Crystal Bible that I purchased. She came from around the counter and walked around with me to show me items and even opened the jewelry case to show me a beautiful purple Jade necklace. Stone Age is an fun new age store with a wide variety. The staff has always been helpful and knowledgable about the products. Their new location in the Tallahassee Mall (where Gap used to be) is much larger than their previous location, so I understand that they can't manage every corner of the store at all times as Daettia B. seemed upset that she was not followed the entire time she was there. I like to look around a bit first before I ask for help and receive it no problem! I don't need to compare them to Crystal Connection because they are completely different. My preference is Stone Age because of the quality, prices, and diversity of products. I think everyone should support this great local business!! read more

One of Tallahassee's only metaphysical stores, and certainly the largest. The staff is very knowledgeable and I have never had any of the problems that the other reviewers posted. I'm not sure why the business slowing down in the store makes them such a bad place--business slowed down in the Tallahassee Mall in general over the years. I don't believe it's directly related to the store itself. It's well-kept, the staff are friendly, and if you need assistance they are happy to help. I was quite impressed when I brought various stones to the register and the girl knew what each one was just by sight (without labels), even though they weren't common like amethyst or onyx. I've been in many many crystal shops and I've never come across one that is as big in sq. ft or selection wise. Stone Age literally has something for everyone and in every price range. They are known for their vast variety of crystals however, they also carry an incredible amount of handmade jewelry, super cool graphic tees and clothing, tapestries, spiritual statues and books and too much more to even put into writing.
