There lava rock scent diffuser is literally the worse smelling thing i have ever smelled.i honestly can't even describe what the scent is. We have bought their candles in the past and loved them . This product is disgusting, smells nothing like the scent it describes, and should not be sold. I reached out to the company about returning and getting a refund which they would not honor . First time visiting Stone Canes today - it's such a wonderful place to try a candle-making class! I bought a Groupon for the candle-making class, so it was a great deal and our instructor was extremely sweet and helpful. Had such a fun time picking out scents for the candles (there are two shelves full of fragrance oils for you to choose from). They use a coconut wax base for their candles, which is a healthier alternative to paraffin wax candles. Came here with my teen for a candle-making workshop, led by the wonderful and patint Anya. In short, it's a wonderful way to spend a couple hours while learning a new craft! Our group consisted of about 10 people. We each sniffed and selected up to three of our favorite scents to personalize our candle making experience. We learned about mixing and complementing different notes for a satisfying scent, as well as how to add colors to our wax for varying effects. During the 20 minute cool down period, we checked out the store and neighboring business. And we left very happy with our handmade candles and newfound craft. Highly recommended! read more

I had been a ardent customer of this business for many years, like the early aughts when they were on National Blvd. and I met the owner, Michael. The first thing that attracted me to his establishment was the scent coming from the place. At this time, they were across from the old Lakeshore and I had to stop in and went Crazay for his candles!! The selection was impressive, so many to choose from, great pricing and he made them on the premises then too. I used to stock up on his candles. I lie to you not, when you burned his candle, the aroma would fill your house!! I also shopped at the other store on Washington Blvd. after they had to move from the old National location, to their move to Santa Monica, but the last time I visited SM something was different. Like the scents were not as pronounced as they once were. I visited the new shop recently and I was so disappointed by the selection and the displays. I used to recommend Stone Candles to everyone I knew, but this new place, although they were nice, thumbs down! The hour is a fun learning experience, inclusive of choosing two different scents (loved my combination of pumpkin spice and vanilla!), mixing in and coloring the wax, and decorating your own box and you get to walk away with your own creation or the best gift. My friend bought tickets from Groupon to make scented candles (half off the original price). I've never done it before so I agreed. Stone Candles is conveniently located right off the freeway. My friend and I arrived 15 minutes early to check-in and we each had to pick out two scented oils for our candles. I ended up picking the Ozonik and Fleur D'Orange for their light and floral fragrant since I hate candles that are sickly sweet. Anya, our instructor, was very professional and would keep us updated on when the class was going to start. She gave us a quick math lesson on how much scented oil and coconut wax was needed for an 8 oz. cup. The process was hands-on and very easy to follow. We even got to decorate our own boxes while our candles were cooling in the freezer. Only complaint is that color is mixed up. I thought I was using red because the label said "RED" on the tissue it was sitting on but I was actually using orange. I should've checked the bottles instead of the labels. I ended up with a peach candle instead of a pink one. Oh well... Overall, despite putting the wrong color into my wax, I had lots of fun throughout the whole process and really ended up liking the scent of my candle. Highly recommend this class! read more

SCENTED PILLARS, SCENTED SCULTURES A variety of beautifully scented candles of different color, shapes, and size. The wax sculptures are funny (spread wide open eagle style wax legs, wax feet, wax heads, etc). I love aroma therapy and scented candles with definition because it flirts with the one of the five senses. Something about the burning of candles and dim light is romantic, so why not create your own scented candle to set the mood for those 'romantic moments'... because I love a good seduction. CANDLE MAKING CLASS The store has a back area dedicated to their Candle Making Class worth $60. The classes gets filled up quickly and its required to call in advance to get into the class (Tuesdays or Saturdays, 2 classes per day). The class is about 2hrs long; arrive early and smell a bunch of candles, pick 1-2 scents, and prepare to make your candle. The process is VERY simple... elementary simple. After making our candle and waiting for them to dry in the freezer we were welcome to the decoration station to decorate our boxes. We felt like we were in elementary and some people's box was as if a 5yr old went to town (crayon scribbles, bedazzle jewelry, paw prints, butterfly cutouts)... yah no thanks. The scents I picked... "Mer Du Corail" - rejuvenate. T: spicy, cardamom. M: Amber, sandalwood, orchid. B: Mango blossom, strawberries, vanilla. "Santal Nior" - it didn't have a word of purpose but the smell was light and deep. T: bergamot, lemon, orange. M: lily, jasmine, rose, cyclames, peach. B: soft woods. 1oz of scents, 70% Santal Nior and 30% Mer Du Corial. 7oz of hot soy wax. The color I chose was a light ocean blue (2 drops of blue). The combined scent does not smell like the description of each above... it has this amazing smell I cannot put into words. You can bring your own booze! They have cups but I would suggest putting it in a canister to keep it cold during the entire time They easily have over 50 scents for you to choose from! I made candles here with my girlfriend and it was a cute experience. The woman who led the workshop seemed knowledgeable and she was super sweet. You basically pick your scents and pour the wax and voila. The setup is also cool because you do it in their factory and get to meet cool people. I came here with a group of 11 people to attend a candle making class for my friend's birthday. The have a table available to store your belongings, snacks, and wine. They have a wine opener on site (whew! we forgot to bring one). PARKING: There is a lot behind the store. It may be hard to get to, but it's there with free parking available. Metered street parking is also another option. CANDLE MAKING CLASS: For 10 or more people, a private candle making class can be booked. The class runs about 2 hours with each person paying $25. Available times are 12pm & 3pm Tuesday & Saturday. Class first starts off with picking your candle scent. Probably the hardest part (especially if you're like me and indecisive haha) of the class, but it was fun experimenting with scents. I ended up choosing LYCHEE and GARDENIA, it smelled like a fruity boba tea drink haha! Making the candle is actually pretty easy overall. Just follow their directions (: You also have the option to color your candle. I tried to make purple by putting a drop of pink and blue, but it turned out to be slate gray. ): You also get to decorate your candle box! SERVICE: We had 2 instructors for our candle making class. They honestly had a snobby facial expression and attitude saying things like "pay attention" and "oh good you're listening" in a snarky tone. I get you may not have wanted to spend your Saturday afternoon with us and would rather be brunching, but it was my friend's birthday. Their attitude wasn't terrible, but as an instructor you have to have patience when teaching others something that is new to them. I just didn't appreciate any of that, but it was still an enjoyable experience overall. Maybe I caught them on a bad day, but hopefully that changes. ---Although we came in a big group, we decided to pay separately. When it came to paying, I paid for my boyfriend and I but was charged $55. When asked why I was charged an additional $5, our instructor said things that honestly didn't make sense such as labor, etc. She ended up saying it was "no big deal" and gave me $5 back, but I don't understand why she would charge me $55 in the first place when it was understood that it was $25 per person (as we were part of a big group). Didn't like her attitude during that as well. Highly would recommend coffee for her. Overall though, it was a great experience and I'd recommend others to come too. I just hope the instructors treat the other customers better next time. read more

Sophie was our instructor and explained the candle making process very well. The class takes about an hour or so. In the end, you make your own candle label and wrap it! Once done, you can browse the shop xand get 20% off all purchases! We brought wine cheese and crackers, but didn't stay to eat or drink. I was hoping to find some Christmas gifts for friends. I have tons of friends who love candles and candle accessories. I hoped this could be a one stop shop for 9 or 10 of my friends. I already resigned in my mind that I'd spend roughly about $500. Woman 1 didn't say hello to me or acknowledge my presence in anyway although I was the sole human being in the store. I helped myself, perusing the shop and came across what I thought would be a great gift for multiple friends- a candle with a candle cloche, several of which were displayed on a shelf in the back of the store. I asked Woman 1 if they had new cloches in boxes. I wouldn't want to present a display as a gift. I wanted boxed product. As Woman 1 is looking for product, Woman 2 enters the vicinity. Woman 1 asked her if they have any cloches in boxes. Woman 2 says "no, those are just display," and silence hangs in the air. Woman 2 does not look in my direction, she does not acknowledge my presence in any way. She simply stares blankly ahead asking no follow-up questions with seemingly no intention to help me any further or try to save discover more about my interest. As a manager working in retail for 15 years I would coach these two people to make eye contact with customers. Ask if there is an alternative they are interested in, converse with the client. It's raining heavily. It's 2 days before Christmas- whoever is in the store under these conditions and circumstances is likely interested in spending money. I sarcastically thanked them for their friendliness and their help. I left the store feeling like those people couldn't care less about me as a customer or a person. They left a potential sale and a potential future loyal client with a deep network of friends, disenchanted and confused by their "service". read more

I was very disappointed with this company. I ordered two candles as a gift for my wife at the end of May 2020. It took longer than I expected for them to confirm shipment, and when I eventually received the order, they sent a vanilla bean scent rather than the jasmine scent. I immediately reported the mistake, and received a reply that "I'm so sorry you received the wrong candle. I will have them ship the correct one as soon as possible." That was June 19, 2020. Despite my following up three time since then, I've never received the replacement candle, and Stone Candle never had the courtesy to even respond to my follow-up emails.
