Don't understand the allure of this place at all - I say this as an adult with no kids- I noticed adults with kids here were happier than the rest because there was a place their kids could play, pet animals, eat and get ice cream while they can drink in peace. Been told about this legendary bbq for years and missed it every summer till now. Craving bbq and no, certainly not BTs I dragged my partner here for the dog friendly factor and it's a nice excuse to get out on a Saturday warm evening. First off - I recommend going early because at 5:30 they were out of most of the dishes and some of the drafts. We love enjoying cider and seltzers and I'm more of the beer enthusiast so I was looking for something nice to take home in a growler. Lots of parking, easy to access the store and kitchen area with dogs. He got a pulled pork sandwich and I got the half chicken dinner - he got maple bacon cheddar cornbread and fries and I opted for fries and coleslaw. When I say this was the most underwhelming and crazy false advertising I mean that wholeheartedly- what was to be a half chicken was the TINIEST thigh and drum ... I really think it was a Cornish hen... pasture raised or not that was an insulting portion of protein for $17 , coleslaw was utterly tasteless - I mean not just no seasoning but like even cabbage has a taste .. which was also missing - try to enjoy a pile of stringy fiber and I guarantee it will be better and at least colder. His sandwich looked great but he reported the bun was cold and hard like right out of the fridge and going stale. That wonderful sounding cornbread? No bacon, zero maple flavor and a thin layer of unmelted cheese in the middle. Also served ice cold. Asked for types of bbq sauce and was directed to the only one- Heinz honey bbq in a pump with the ketchup and mustard... not a dealbreaker but how on earth do you serve bbq with only one kind of BOTTLED sauce ?! Not for the $ they ask is wild. I could handle all that ... call it an off night or give excuses as to why things were served so poorly but my experience in the barn to get drinks was enough to make me never come back. Immediately after ordering food, I went in there to find a very short line to order beer and I reviewed the menu on the mirror- my sight isn't amazing so I waited to ask the beer tender if they had any cider at all - REally not sure what I did to this woman .. but when there was no one else in line I walked up to the counter (maybe I should have waited to be called?! ) and asked about cider and was given the RUDEST most condescending attitude- " um no that's more of a fall thing you know like with the apples and stuff?!" I was like shocked at how rude she was and the other 2 staff members laughed - idk I think I interrupted their conversation and she was just snapping at me for no reason - I'm so not a snowflake and no offended by anything - but actually have worked in customer service , retail and restaurants for 25 years and this was just downright pissy poor behavior. I responded with a coy "oh yeah I guess that makes sense " and when they flip the screen around to ask for a tip I could not smash the "No tip" button hard enough - seriously though what planet are you on to ask for a tip after that piss poor service you just gave me? Way to greet a customer - and possibly the worst first impress of this place I could have ever received . I was so turned off by it I didn't go back for another and totally forgot about a growler at that point. Tried the ice cream craving chocolate- saw a flavor described as "chocolate eruption" if you are a chocolate lover - stay away - it tastes like Dixie cup chocolate with some chips added. Fail. Sad thing is I'm sure management will just scroll n roll the eyes past this. I'm plagued with finding any good bbq or any decent reason to spend $$ outside the house in the north central mass area and the search shall continue after this visit. Really a bummer when it was so dog friendly. The fries though are really amazing ... shoestring and crunchy... there's another star for those

Had no business being all this way on a work night but work had other plans. Long story short after delivering packages to my drivers I was recommended by one of them to come here for lunch. Thought I was grabbing a burger today but apparently only Fridays and the weekends with all the other good fixings so settled with an $18 loaded grilled cheese and a non alcoholic beverage. For what it's work it was ok, could have save myself time and made one at home. What boosted this to four stars other than anticipation that the weekend menu is really good was their ice cream. I was so impressed with the texture and how firm but soft it was. Ice cream alone is five stars. Went with a traditional black raspberry but threw a scoop of the graham bee which was delicious. If I am ever up this way on the weekend I would make an attempt to stop in and try some other food, but definitely grabbing another ice cream!

My wife and I went here for the first time on May 17th on a recommendation from my sister (her fav place). The location is beautiful! The buildings are rustic, which we like. The beers were very good, with a good selection from hoppy to dark. My wife loved the coconut porter "Cowabunga"! The food was also very good, with a farm to table theme. I had a grass fed burger with hand cut shoestring fries. Nice to see people offering "real" fries nowadays. My wife had the grilled cheese with Vermont cheddar and a side Caesar. We're definitely planning on going again, even though it's over an hour drive for us one way. Keep up the good beer and food!

Really nice large brewery with food options. Went here with a large group of friends and the place was absolutely packed. Tons of seating here and the line moved quickly. Only thing to note is food stops 1 hr before closing at 8 so you must get there early. Overall experience was very nice. Enjoyed beer, grilled cheese, pulled pork, burgers, and more. Really loved my grilled cheese and great portion sizes. Recommend

Had an amazing day with my family here. We even brought the dog. Great atmosphere with entertainment and nice outdoor spaces. Not much of an adventurous beer drinker but liked the light beer. The ice cream is good and even got one for the pup. Great for kids to play and enjoy the animals.

This place is a great concept for families. Parents get the beer and kids get the play area and everybody wins with food and ice cream. But... 1. Very confusing when you first get there of what is doing what? Where do we get beer? where do we order food? 2. We have a 1 year old and had a stroller- not all area's are mapped out with a walkway so stopping, turning the stroller around and hauling it backwards across the stone was a pain! 3. The menu change on the weekends stinks. I am an avid Yelper and do my research. Saw the weekend menu but still was showcasing on their website chicken wings with the BBQ. We get there and they do not do chicken wings on the weekend. Our whole crew was bummed! 4. Overpriced- $19 for 2 pork tacos? $10 for two side orders of fries that looked like 1 small order? Boo. The charm of breweries for me besides good food is a laid back atmosphere. This place was not very laid back in my opinion-getting out of a rural brewery to over commercialized. The stout drinkers raved over their stout but my IPA husband thought it was ok. Noisy, lots of kids and overall not my style.

This is the nicest brewery we've been to on our local brewery tour!!! So so beautiful!! From the barn you order your beers and food (also plenty of seating inside) to the beautiful grounds to enjoy the countryside. We arrived early on a Saturday afternoon and were greeted at the front counter to order our beers. Very helpful and friendly staff. We ordered beers, but were disappointed that the biggest selection is IPAs. I'm not a beer drinker so they suggested the Farmweiser Lime, they said it tasted like Budweiser Lime :( I wasn't impressed with it and I was disappointed that they didn't have any more fruity beers or hard seltzer's. We ordered pizza and it was okay, they brought that out to our table when it was ready. We enjoyed sitting outside looking over the cow fields. There was plenty of entertainment for the children to play and run around. A band was setting up to play, but we only stayed for 2 beers. They also have a farm stand and an ice cream window!! Plenty to do here if you want to spend an afternoon!

I stumbled upon this place while searching for outdoor breweries. Stone cow didn't disappoint. The atmosphere was great. Amazing outdoor views with good food and decent selection of beer. There's a single line get a table and to order food so make sure to get food while you're in the line. There's also one small ice cream place besides which is a must try. We ordered IPA's, stouts and a few other beers. We also bought a few 6-packs to go and met the owner during the closing time who was a chill dude who showed us the place around and recommended some places to visit as it was our first time in that city. I'd recommend this brewery to anyone who wants to have a good time enjoying the drink with a view.

This review is just for the ice cream. My boyfriend is from Barre and was showing me around town for the month of May. We visited Stone Cow maybe every few days haha, I have never had so much ice cream in this time frame but it was delicious and so home grown!

My order came out quickly and was packaged carefully, which made it perfect for traveling. I chose the steak tips and shrimp cocktail special with two sides, and everything was excellent. The steak tips were tender and cooked perfectly, and even in a to-go container the shrimp cocktail was beautifully presented and tasted very fresh. Brisket was smokey, sauced, and chopped making it easy to eat. Every single thing we ordered the past few times was delicious and flavorful. Great, now I have no idea what to order. I want one of everything! Prices may be a bit steep for some, but 100% worth it. We are always too full for the ice cream. Many flavors. Plenty of parking. Service staff are excellent. Fast and friendly. I hope they never change.

The Tavern is…read morein a small town, with not a lot of big business's or industry nearby, so it's primarily a transient (on a major state route) and local population venue. The town does roll-up the sidewalks at 500pm...so I know it's a tough business wherein to make a few bucks. They upped their menu options a few months back (yeah!) and have altered hours a bit, now opening at 11:30am every day. (also yeah!) The menu is a bit limited (which is not bad; work the interesting offerings, update when needed), but very good. I live local to the HT, and stop in maybe once a month for a lunch or before dinner (I avoid Friday and Saturday, as it can get very noisy in there). Today, my wife and I stopped at 300pm for their smash burgers (2 patties, lettuce, onion, tomato) on a Caprese roll. Great roll for the type of burger. I think they can source better tomatoes, as we are in the middle of a farming area, so summer and fall they should consider local produce and make the slices bigger. French fries were good, but not unique. We ordered a bowl of sweet potato fries as a starter, and they were good. Enough to take home and try with some various cocktail sauces we have. I usually get their edamame dumplings, but they were out. If you order their nachos and cheese, it is a big plate, so be warned. They have a few local craft beers, but it would be nice to see a more expansive list. I understand most locals go for the generic beer basic brands, but still...Plenty of craft brewers in Central Mass. Same with the wine; there is a local winery the next town over (shameless plug: Hardwick Winery) that is quite good, and I'm sure a bit of support both ways would be eventful. We have a local cider grower too, that could pair nicely (shameless plug: Ragged Hill) The pricing on the lunch-time specials make HT an easy option to go to. I know that server staff is tough to get, let alone retain, and I often give a bit more slack in the expectations in that area these days. Our server, Holly, also does early opening bar duty, and she made a great dry martini. And those are tough to make, and so easy to screwup. Thanks, Holly. Parking in the lot can be tough on a busy night, but, plenty of free and safe street parking within a 1-3 minute walk. The Tavern is not a romantic venue, exquisite, nor super-fine dining. It is a reliable, local, historic, restaurant to get a solid meal, a good drink, meet with friends, and relax. They do a great function offering I will say (have used it several times), and I am glad to see changing weekly-monthly specials, holiday meals, and have flights when a new liquor hits the shelf. They now have an outdoor tent for the ending summer and fall nights. So to the owners and chef, keep thinking outside the box, and you'll make this a solid start for your next 265 years.

There's a lot of nostalgia tied to this place, but the experience today feels like a shadow of what it used to be. The quality has dropped drastically. Service was, frankly, atrocious--slow, disengaged, and bordering on indifferent. The beer selection is still decent, but it doesn't matter much when every pour arrives tasting off. Whether it's bad kegs or hot glasses, the result is the same: lukewarm, skunky beer that's hard to enjoy. Food was another disappointment. Every item came out cold, and the flavors were on par with grade‑D fast food--bland, lifeless, and nowhere near the standard this place once had. Giving three stars feels generous, but it's a nod to the legacy Willibrew built over the decades. I truly hope they find their footing again, because right now, the nostalgia is doing all the heavy lifting. Ummmmm cheers I guess

The atmosphere and service were terrific. Expansive place in an old bank. Quirky, charming, and fun all at the same time. Loved the vibe - added to the excitement of having lunch. Server was terrific. The food: IF we ever go back I/we will get apps for the table only. Wide variety of options - all fairly good. They do no harm. Think airport or mid-level hotel restaurant. Appetizer portions (especially the nachos) gigantic. Clearly it's for the wow factor to distract diners from the 100% food service supplier, heat and eat options. Even all sauces and dressings come in the 2oz /4oz soufflé cup with the LID STILL ON. like we are literally in the airport. Wings to start along with nachos with shredded beef. The only wing sauce (we tried 4) that tasted like anything was their "Oy-Vey" which is hotter than their bottled, ready to serve buffalo. The buffalo, bbq, and dry rub jerk were tasteless, as was the blue cheese. The wings were medium size. Not the jumbo party wings that come in the 40lbs box. Nachos were ok. Good portion of cheese and meat. But the thimble of sour cream and tasteless pour from the bottle salsa were embarrassing But... if we were drinking and enjoying friends ... it would have been fine to soak up the microbrews, I suppose. Sandwiches were disastrous. One had the friend catfish sandwich, one the spicy shrimp wrap, and I had the farmers wrap/add blackened chicken. Portion sparse. Fries and/or onion rings mid-grade coated/cover the plate type. And I added coleslaw (maybe my favorite food on the planet) at our server's suggestion...the dry, tasteless cabbage set coleslaw back 50 years. KFC slaw is miles better (and I hate that). What ruined it was all sandwiches had the same "funk" to them. Each member of our table tried to identify in their own order, and sharing some of each others, what it was. The common denominator was the funky/carbon/dirty grease taste and smell that came from their grill (all wraps and sandwich bread/roll/wrap) was heated on it. It clearly was filthy. Taste permeated everything. They don't create/chef here. It's food service supplier "speed scratch" which is assembled in the kitchen. I know staffing is hard. I know no one wants to work (they do, however, want to get paid), but really really really disappointed based on reviews and menu. Best part, I asked for a small cup of oy-vey sauce as my tasteless wrap was so dry. Server said that she'd be happy to. But it would be $4 from the kitchen. Ummm... hard pass. Again, maybe phenomenal if you're a college student at East Conn. but if you're not drinking the food simply does not stand up on its own. Worst $178 with tip (with no alcohol) I have ever spent.

We were starving after swimming all day and ate every bit because of how great all the food was. Nice beers to choose from & I had a yummy pomegranate marg. They were so accommodating of our overtired toddler as well. Thank you to our server Cera for doing a great job! When we're in the area, we will definitely return. We almost didn't come here because the reviews didn't all look great but we are SO glad we tried it! If you have a good experience here definitely urging you to leave a nice review (: Also love the ambiance of downstairs with cozy tables , warm lighting and the nice fireplace. The southwest chicken salad was okay, the chicken was a bit dry and the ranch dressing was a bit thicker than I expected, but the corn and avocado made up for this. The food took a while to come out but our server was great.
