More of an old fashioned get to know you process with phone calls. We spoke with Kempton for all of that. He was attentive and helpful with juggling our schedules. Brett worked so well with our kids. He is perceptive and masterful. Our session was chaotic but he didn't miss a beat. The unveiling was super cool. We walked into the studio to see our painting on the easel in all of its glory. I'm not usually a crier but it really got me. This portrait will always hold a special place in our family.

I paid for a voucher worth 2k at a recent charity event. When I called to schedule, the woman I spoke with (I assume she is the office manager) could not have been ruder. When I mentioned what I was looking for - a portrait of our family dog, she told me they don't do pet portraits. She then told me they used to do animals, but no longer do them. Below is dog portrait on the Lubin site, which I exhaustively looked through prior to buying the voucher at auction. I then asked her if she could show me where the policy was listed online and she got irritated and said, "if you can't find it, I don't know what to tell you." Following that comment, I asked to speak to one of the artists to see if they would make an exception and she offered to connect me with him in mid-July, which at the time was three months away. I was literally taken aback by the treatment and that she would not work to find 10 minutes for a call with Mr. Lubin so that I could understand a bit more about the policy, which is nowhere to be found online. When I asked her why they changed the policy, (which again is not on their website) she said she didn't know. I also have to laugh because there are many reviews on here and on Google about the rude staff - one customer below described her poor experience, and she actually had portraits of her dogs done. I finally just chalked the whole experience up to making a very nice donation to the charity but have encouraged them to not work with Lubin again. If this business does not want to talk to customers who have vouchers with respect, then they should not donate vouchers to local charities. Additionally, they really need to make their policies clear and not false advertise. Very poor experience. Do not recommend.

I've had both my maternity and newborn photos taken by Julie Tsao and I've been very pleased with…read moremy results both times. Some reasons we love Julie: -The pictures turn out great (the ultimate goal after all) -They were convenient to get done (she can come to your home - so important when you have a newborn and aren't sleeping) -Julie provides great directions on posed shots (though she also took plenty of natural shots too) -She provides photos faster than the industry standard - for us, she sent the preview photos the day after the shoot and the final photos less than a month after a shoot (key when you have a baby that's growing so fast) For our maternity photos, Julie took the photos a 5 minute walk from our townhome, so the location was very convenient. But the photos are angled to largely not include buildings so it looks like a beautiful woodsy area. She also took the photos at the end of the day so the lighting is perfect. For our newborn photos, you can either go to Julie's home near Vienna metro for photos, or she can bring the studio to you. She also asked for my input ahead of the shoot on which color themes I'd like for the newborn photos, which I really appreciated since we were able to think about outfits for ourselves that worked with those colors. The newborn session includes a complimentary family mini session, which resulted in the best picture that has ever been taken of our family (imagine coordinating smiles on multiple people including a toddler). Actually, we are planning to order a big canvas print of our family photo because we're so in love with it! We almost didn't get maternity and newborn photos done but now that we've seen how great they turned out, we can't imagine not having them.

Carly has a full photography studio right in her home! She welcomed us and got right to work at our scheduled appointment. Part of our package included makeup assistance, which was greatly appreciated by this sleep deprived first-time mama. I was very pleased by the mini-makeover, which was not at all overdone and very natural. Carly has an extensive collection of newborn outfits to select from, if you wish. They were all fresh and clean, organized by color. She also provided all different kinds of props, etc. as accents. She is very good at accommodating your preferences so you get exactly what you want. I think what stands out the most to me is the way she was able to get amazing photos, despite the fact our little one didn't always exhibit a positive attitude. She was baby whisperer extraordinaire. My wife and I searched high and low for a vendor to complement our photographer and capture our May 2007 wedding. We found expensive ones with a lot of unnecessary bells and whistles and then we found John Rose. Our first meeting was in a MD chain restaurant. He reminded me of a car salesman who was learning the ropes. He was nervous and he was just starting his own business. However he brought a mini dvd player and showed us a sample dvd of his past weddings. He offered more affordable packages and a greater sense of photojournalism. My wife and I shopped around and thought that the other vendors did not fit our budget or style. We took a gamble on our man. I enjoyed working with him before, during and after the ceremony and reception. I don't remember saying more than 4 words to him and his team the entire night; he and the equipment were incognito. He also worked well with our photographer (sometimes vendors can "fight" for better shots). Our final product, received within 2.5 months, is a work of art, from the DVD case design to the chapter menus and footage. It's like watching a movie (not just Uncle Bob's raw footage). Although he is located in MD and serves primarily MD, DC and VA, he is willing to travel for a nominal fee. I would be willing to answer questions (PM me) and vouch for him.
