This property, created by the founder of Garden Conservancy Frank Cabot and his wife Anne, is a horticultural masterpiece showcasing more than 120 cultivated plants, most of which are flowering at different times making it a colorful and fragrant environment for three seasons a year. Built in 1958, this is a non-profit organization where the entry fee is $10 per person, or $5 for seniors and children. It is a self guided tour that includes several cool buildings including a beautiful gigantic greenhouse. The garden's plants are marked with little number signs so that you can choose and purchase the plants featured. A few of the buildings are still used as private residences. You'll be given a map and list of the plants displayed upon entry. There is a suggested path to follow to see the most diversity possible . The map isn't to scale, and does not clearly reflect the path to be taken. The grounds are very "maze-like" and it is very confusing to try and stick to the suggested path, which is not marked well at all. Almost every marked hiking path in the country uses a very similar method of guiding people, but not here. We ended up leaving before seeing half of the property because we just kept ending up in the same spot at one point, and couldn't figure out how to continue due to the poor marking methods used. This is an amazing botanical garden! Very peaceful and beautiful. So many areas on the propriety with different flowers and trees. Admission is $10 and you get a map that tells you about each area. Most plants are well marked with the species name. They sell a few perennials. You can even bring your own food and eat at several tables on the grounds. The conservatory is surrounded by a small pond and bullfrogs can be seen from the outdoor deck area. The main building houses a small art gallery as well. They have an adorable Scottie dog on premises too. You could easily stay 3-4 hours if you're a very avid gardener, but I spent 2 and thought that was just right for someone with a mild interest. Makes for a lovely day out in nature and not very crowded on a weekday. read more

These gardens are one of the best that we've visited. From the moment that we arrived, we were greeted by a very friendly staff member. She confirmed that we were on the guest list and explained all of the details about the gardens. You will receive a detailed map of the grounds and a printout of all of the flowers that you will be enjoying. When you make your online reservations, you'll be able to choose two time slots. Either 10:00 - 1:30 or 1:30 - closing. If you forget your reservation printout, don't fret, because they already have a list, which they'll confirm with your party. During your tour, you will come across many things that will give you serenity,, tranquility, and will give ample time to r-e-l-a-x. The pictures will give you a good idea of what you'll be seeing, but the pictures will not do justice to what you'll "feel," as you take all of it in. These gardens offer different displays, throughout every season, as the staff member stated. So, these gardens will require multiple visits. All of which, I'm certain, will not disappoint. read more

Stonecrop Gardens are absolutely beautiful! There are many different types of floral and fauna to see, as well as, green houses and even an area where you can pick out plants to buy. The price of admission for adults is only $10. We were given a map that the woman at reception marked and explained different sections of the gardens to us. We were also given a list of plants and flowers we could then identify ourselves as we walked along the path. We were only able to cover part of the grounds because unfortunately we had to catch a train. There was a light drizzle while we were there so all the flowers glistened with water droplets which made them even more beautiful to see up close. On the grounds, we spotted a frog, a rabbit, a turtle, and the sweetest resident dog. We had such a wonderful time. We would go back in a heart beat. Highly recommend... read more

You're given a map that identifies all the plants, flowers and trees along your path. It's a small garden but has a rock ledge you walk on so wear comfortable shoes. This is definitely a hidden gem and a fabulous place for garden enthusiasts! How I wish I planned more time in this wonderful garden. This wonderful place well maintained with easy access to the bathroom and clear direction around the garden. There are over 160 different species of plants here. The admission is $10 for adult, $5 for children, students and seniors. I was given a very warm welcome from the front door staff. I also had friendly encounter with a cute dog in the gardener's Bothy, and 2 garden cats near main house. My overall experience is very pleasant. read more

Stonecrop Gardens is a wonderful place to kill anywhere from 1-3 hours if in the Cold Springs/West Point/Newburgh/Fishkill area of the New York Hudson Valley. I cannot call it a gem or rave about it as much as other Yelpers as it is a smaller attraction compared to other gardens and not much was in bloom when I visited. I have nothing particularly negative to say about the place as the employees were nice and the place is a perfect quiet and idyllic escape to kill a few hours if you find yourself in the area, but it's a 3.5 star attraction at best in my opinion. I loved the pond area with a bench with a frog sculpture on it, but beware as this particular area takes some balance in getting to as there's rocks you have to walk on and can fall in the water if you don't have proper balance...definitely not recommended for the elderly. There are plenty of benches scattered throughout the grounds to take in the surroundings. For the small entrance fee, it's worth a visit if you like smaller gardens and peace/quiet. read more

Very Zen-like areas to relax too. Located in Cold Spring, it is pretty close but hidden from plain sight. This is a must for nature lovers. Very pretty garden. Definitely wear bug spray! I spent about an hour here admiring the greenery and flowers. This may have been posted somewhere, but I would have loved to hear about the history garden. Additionally, the main greenhouse was closed due to broken glass from a lightning storm. What a wonderful place! From the moment you drive onto the property, it feels as if you've entered an enchanted realm. What an extraordinary collection of unique plants and trees. The bamboo garden was really something to walk through as well as the small house that felt like you had just entered Hobbiton. Really beautiful place to spend a morning or afternoon. The gardeners have done a remarkable job. Note of caution - make sure you "check-in" and pay the $5 fee at the little house after the greenhouse or get scolded by the groundskeeper. We hadn't yet walked 3 feet out of the greenhouse when she beckoned us to check in, which we were certainly planning on doing. read more

An estate that became a public garden. This one focuses more on alpine plants. It is in a lovely location near a horse farm. They gardens are extensive and it is nice they give you a list of plants that are numbered. They also sell plants so if you are interested in starting an alpine garden it is a good resource. read more

What a pleasant afternoon at Stonecrop Gardens! My friends and I enjoyed a stroll in the garden during a recent visit to Cold Spring, after strolling down Main Street and the Waterfront. On this day we didn't have a car, so we took Uber ride to the Garden, since it is out the way ($11 ride for 3 of us, which was not bad at all). The $5 admission fee is well worth the amazing photos we got take, and the tranquility we enjoyed. My only suggestion would be for a bit more investment in the way finding. It's easy to get bit lost, since some other paths are not clearly paved and can lead to dead-ends, and there is not enough clear signage indicating where to turn. read more

Stonecrop is little out-of-the-way place which is easy to miss but is well worth finding. The gardens are laid out in a simple flowing pattern and are very well tended by a dedicated group of professionals. They have plants of every different type from large to small perennials succulents Hardwoods massive trees, and lovely walkways that are easy to traipse through and spend 2 or 3 hours just communing with nature. read more
