Students can learn at their own pace at LELA which is helpful for the many people who struggle with the pacing in other environments. If for any reason your child is not happy or excelling in a traditional school system, LELA Academy is the way to go. I am still in touch with Mrs. Lilly today despite being 22 and on my own. While I understand that, as a private institution, the school has the right to make its own enrollment decisions, the process felt inconsistent and, at times, lacking in integrity. More importantly, I believe the way it is handled can have a significant emotional impact on children and families. Because of this, I am unable to rate the school highly overall. STEER CLEAR! - a former student…read more I was an Alpha-Omega who almost graduated from here. I transferred out in High School and found that every other school in this area is better than this cesspool of toxicity. First of all, faculty here is horrible. I would say 10% of them are decent people, 70% are rude and incompetent, and 20% are EVIL PEOPLE who should NOT be let around/allowed to work around kids. Over my time at the school, there was multiple issues with discriminatory teachers (who chose to belittle children off of race, gender, religion, etc.) and teachers who had questionable actions towards students. All of these issues get swept under the rug, of course, because the Oakridge way is to never take accountability for their wrongdoings and push it onto the child somehow. Any problem with faculty is dismissed by Admin, and if something of severe consequence happens to your kid, good luck getting anything fixed. I had many horrid experiences with teachers, as did a lot of my classmates (to the severity of which any other school would fire them for) and the school always conveniently managed to find an excuse or spin it to where it was on the kid. This was a common occurrence for a lot of students; more than just me. The Headmaster as of right now, Mr. Burgy, really cares about the kids at the school, but the board (filled of people who get free tuition and haven't been enrolled in 10-20 years) severely limits and hinders any meaningful and good progress in the institution. The board is the one pulling the strings behind Oakridge, and that's the biggest issue. They don't spend any time on campus to learn about issues, and instead go off of their outdated experiences. The students aren't much better either. Lots of bullying and hurt took place here, but that's the environment the school breeds. The school claims to care about bullying, yet when I was getting death threats and cyberbullied online, they wanted to turn a blind eye. (I've yet to determine if it was because one of the bullies was a teacher's kid, or just negligence like previous bullying instances with other students.) Seriously, save your kid's mental wellbeing and your pocket from endless therapy bills by avoiding this place. If you don't listen to anyone else, listen to me, someone who lived this school for 13 years; who grew up here, and was discarded and treated like trash.

Our son was accepted to a Christian school where we will be living and and he'll be entering at the top half of his class which speaks volumes to MPS and his teacher, Mrs. Howard. His new school was very impressed with his assessment saying it was rare for a child to come in mid-year knowing what he knows. I'm so thankful for MPS and the love that's been poured into our son and his education. We weren't just seeking education for him when we found MPS. We wanted him to have the opportunity to thrive, contribute, and make a positive impact wherever he went - somewhere he could further his character and deepen his faith. Additionally, we wanted someone who would invest in nurturing his little soul with Christian values and MPS, Mrs. Howard, and the rest of the MPS staff have delivered 100%. During this time, we volunteered and gave to the school as much as we were able because we wanted to support the community our children were in. Beginning in September of 2025, we began to have concerns about behaviors / conversations occurring and it continued throughout the school year. We always tried to be gentle and respectful when bringing these concerns to the attention of administrators. Finally, with two weeks of school left, we made the decision to completely withdraw and cancel the re-enrollment of both of our children after our safety concerns were met with a refusal for answers, zero accountability, hostility and even pitting families against one another. I won't claim to have handled this perfectly because there was so much frustration once we started being treated poorly simply for having concerns and being denied answers from individuals who our children were under the care of for 30+ hours per week. I explained many times that I did not expect personal information of any student, I just wanted clarification on policies, what behaviors would or would not be allowed, and how similar situations would be handled in the future. As a Christian Private School - which MPS claims to be - with so many children under their care, they are absolutely held to a higher standard and should be able to have hard conversations, be accountable, professional and respectful to ALL families - especially when it comes to the safety of their children. The repeated phrase of admin was that how we feel is not their responsibility and if we don't like it we can withdraw - which is exactly what we did. Added for perspective - I want to draw your attention to the laugh reactions on our reviews. These are from a current teacher at MPS (admin's mother) and the BIBLE teacher at MPS (admin's husband) - neither of which were involved with any of our communications. Sadly, it just continues to prove our point. If at the time you are ready this they are no longer there, it may be because they realized as much.
