Making the appointment was quickly handled over the phone and the studio had evening hours which accommodated my work schedule. The studio was convenient and easy to find and there was plenty of parking right in front. The studio was large and clean and I was greeted by the photographer Rick who was wonderful to work with. I am very particular about my own pictures and Rick took the extra time to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. I wanted my pictures on the same night and he allowed me to have every picture he took. The quality of the pictures was the best I've ever received and I've had pictures taken by quite a number of photographers in and around Portland. Rick does outstanding work and I highly recommend him to anyone. He is probably not the cheapest around but he is nowhere close to the most expensive either and I think the prices are very reasonable when you consider you receive all of the pictures and not just a couple. We actually interviewed with a few different planning companies before them but it was hard to find someone who we were comfortable working with who could understand our vision for the marriage ceremony as a Christian couple until we found them. We appreciate that they were easy to reach, always looking out for us (Arnold even helped us look for good deals at Costco!), offered great advice and suggestions, and most importantly, willing to work within our budget. Since we had 200 guests and many specific vendors choices (leaning on the DIY type of wedding), we were often on the edge of being overwhelmed by wedding planning. Arnold and Amanda met with us often in the months before to encourage us and affirm us through each step of our journey. Arnold was present with us in our vendor meetings and kept in good communication with them. Another bonus - decor planning ended up being a lower priority on our list so Arnold really helped us to walk through that process and took lead on it during the wedding day (choosing linens, table cloths, decor placement, etc). To be honest, wedding planning can be a stressful process but completely manageable, enjoyable, and satisfying with the right team! My husband and I wanted to be very personally involved in our wedding (we truly handpicked each and every one of our vendors ourselves) but we could not have done that without Pins and Pearls. We really liked Thomas' modern, photo journalistic approach that made it look like a beautiful moment captured in time instead of a forced pose. He has a level of skill that you would normally find in a more expensive photographer, yet he charges a reasonable price. We decided on an engagement session at the Disney Concert Hall and neighboring areas. We had some ideas of our own that Thomas put his own spin on and made them even better than we could've imagined! My husband and I aren't used to having our photos taken and he was very patient with us and made us feel comfortable. The photos turned out so beautiful and unique! We got a ton of compliments on them! For our wedding, Thomas and his team were early and did a wonderful job keeping up with everything. We expected some great photos of our special day - we didn't need much. Xiaopan went above and beyond from the first call. The experience itself was perfect - Xiaopan is firm but not pushy, will push you just a bit out of your comfort zone, and you will have so much fun along the way. Our dog is not great with strangers, but Xiaopan understood and was incredibly respectful of his space and his needs - all while getting some great shots of him.
