Pleasant supper club experience. Our server was very friendly and took good care of us. My husband and I each had the prime rib and as others have noted, the cut we got was generous! Hands down Desk, our server, made Stones Throw a North Woods Wonder! On Friday a party of four was served immediately in a screened in outside dining room. Whether choosing the salmon on the hamburger your decision will be rewarded. Regardless of your choice sake for a mixed bread basket of the whole wheat and pumpernickel breads. The service was 5 stars and the food was 3 stars. My son and husband both had the fish fry. It was the cornmeal type fish fry, which was not their favorite. I had a sirloin steak and loaded baked potato. It was okay, but I have had much better at other supper clubs. My daughter had the ribs, which I tried the next day as well, those were very good. Was not a good value for the quality of the food. Although the service with fine, the food did not meet expectations. Prime rib was ordered medium rare, came quite well done. I'll add a photo. My wife ordered broiled haddock. Haddock normally has a neutral flavor, but there was a distinctly "fishy" flavor that simply ruined the dish. The tenderloin was, from what I can tell, completely unseasoned and overdone. Again ordered medium rare and receive more than medium well, for some reason the cut was split open and then overdone is what it looks like. The ambiance lacks what I would normally equate to a "supper club" in Wisconsin. And prices were steep, but I'm sure that because of their proximity to the parks and ATV trails. read more

We called for reservations at 4:30 and the hostess said they do not take reservations for any group smaller than 8 but there was no wait so she said we would be ok - we arrived at 5 pm for an early dinner and by the time we got there it was a 45 minute wait with half the tables in the dining room empty; We have been a frequent visitor for years of this place but the new ownership is flushing all that loyalty down the drain - this will have ripple effects thoughout the area because I will gladly share my experience with all the people i know who go there - 0 stars read more

What a disappointment the service of this place use to be so good. Tried to call and order take out at 6:30 on a Sunday night. Was told that there was just parties of 8, 10, and 12 and were unable to do a take out until possibly later. (No problem I understand that) I arrive and stay parked in the parking lot until 7:30. There was less than 10 cars in the entire parking lot. When I called back the final time the lady asked the cook Joe if he could do a to go order now and I could hear him say no. What place after being closed for 2 months turns customers away. I get waiting and was not expecting it right away that is why I waited 50 mins in my car, but come on if you cant play catch up in an hour when you have 10 cars in your lot you need a new cook. This was the worst service and worst overpriced food I've ever experienced at a restaurant. Starting with the food, I ordered a fish sandwich and my friend ordered a chicken sandwich (both around $10 with NO side). This is how they came: an oversized bun with a small piece of chicken/fish and literally NOTHING else on the sandwich... no sauce, no lettuce, no nothing. Just meat/fish and a bun. Next, the service... I've never met a more rude server. She hardly stopped at our table and when she did, she was extremely rude, very sassy and talked back to the customers. It brings me no joy to report this, but Tim and Lana have sold Stone's Throw to new owners. The restaurant was temporarily closed during my intended visit on 1/6/2018. A sign on the door announced the change in ownership. The intention is for the new owners to re-open soon. Under Tim and Lana's leadership, Stone's Throw was a gem for Hatfield. They rarely offered their regular patrons anything less than a spectacular dining experience. I wish the new owners all the best, but they are going to have huge shoes to fill. read more

Same bad experience as the one from a year ago. Knowing they have new owners, we tried to go back and try again. We asked again to sit outside (expecting that accommodations were being made due to ongoing Covid-19 pandemic), calling right when they opened. Told they were short staffed and couldn't do carry out as they were expecting a couple large groups of 25. They could have offered to let me pick up my order at maybe an hour or so later, which would have been fine, but they didn't offer that or anything else. I hung up and we went down the road to the Riviera instead (very accommodating, good food, left a nice tip for the server to show our appreciation). Passing by the Stone's Throw parking lot (within 15 minutes of their opening), we saw about 7 customer vehicles there. My wife called immediately, asking if we came in, would we be served. They said there was a wait list (how can that be when they just opened and didn't take reservations? How do you get on a waiting list if you're not eating inside a restaurant that doesn't take reservations and all you want is carry out? We even would've left a nice tip for that.). My wife also was told they had told me there was a wait list when I called (not true, I called when they opened). DURING COVID, CHANGE YOUR WEBSITE AND REMOVE YOUR CARRYOUT OPTION AND EXPLAIN HOW UNWILLING YOU ARE TO MAKE ANY ACCOMMODATIONS FOR CUSTOMERS. Terrible experience after coming here for many years! It is under new ownership. Rude staff and waited 2 hours for food. Just got it boxed up to go. Got there at 7 and left at 9:10pm with the boxed up order. Food order was wrong when we got home. Manager was full of excuses but no apologies and no comps. The old owners ran their restaurant really well. The minute we walked in something felt really off and found out about the new ownership as we were leaving. Our meals at Stones Throw are always exceptional. Family favorites include lemon pepper chicken and King's Tenderloin. Meals come with tossed salad, numerous choice of potato (even sweet potato fries) and warm homemade loaves of bread! Portions are good size, but it is more expensive than some mid-western restaurants. Flavor is worth every penny though. read more

This place did not live up to the expectation of just about any restaurant. The bartender gave me dagger eyes when I asked for a menu and just had an attitude that came off as very demeaning. We waited approximately 15 minutes to be seated, but when we were called up the hostess was power walking all over the place and was nowhere to be found. We finally got a table and ordered our food, which was not cheap and did not resemble the quality of the service or meal. When the food showed up to the table we had to ask for silverware. Even children can set a dinner table, but I suppose that's not so simple at the stones throw. I ordered a chopped steak dinner, which subsequently to my surprise meant a plain hamburger with no bun and a lot of grilled onions. There was also a side plate that came with it. It was a mound of mushrooms and more onions. I had so much onion I could probably fill a football stadium. Not really, but I would guess there was an entire onion put into that one meal. The best part of the evening was the bread, which typically would be the least accommodating feature of the night. read more

We've been here twice in the last year while up on the area ATV trails. The food was excellent. Both times the chef came out to the tables checking on how everyone was doing. My husband had the "lighter side" rib eye both times and it was as big as you'd expect a "regular" sized portion to be. I had the "lighter side" shrimp scampi and its the best I've ever had. I love a restaurant that gives you a choice of a smaller portion but we had plenty to eat, couldn't even finish all the delicious bread in the bread basket. Four of us traveled to Stones Throw after reading Saturday night prime rib is great. We did not have a good experience. Our prime rib last night was stone cold and chewy as a dog's chew toy. The mushrooms, while tasty, were greasy enough that one of our party became ill overnight. One of the bartenders must have had a bad night..... she was on the side of outright rude. Fortunately, the rest of the staff was friendly. We will not be giving this place a second chance. read more
