What a night & day experience it is to shop at this Stop & Shop location compared to 90% of the others. It is hands down the most NEAT and IN-STOCK Stop & Shop and perhaps grocery store I've ever been to in NJ! I had to run in for a few items early in the morning and was able to find everything I needed, properly priced and also had quite an amazing checkout experience in the Self-Checkout line dealing with the supervisor on duty who was able to help me with an issue with my frequent shoppers card and provided me with details on how to fix the issue myself if I ever encountered it again ... and she was friendly! I didn't get her name but was there right before 9am on a Wednesday in case there's any way of giving her kudos for truly embodying customer service. If I lived closer this would be my go-to store! read more

This Stop & Shop is a good market for all basics. It's actually much better stocked than it's sister S&S on Kingsland Road. This S&S is very clean. Also, prices are less than some other area markets. It's best to log on to their app.and clip on their special coupons. Please don't forget to redeem your App."GO" points because you can receive a lot of money off your next purchase. You can use the "GO" points for gas purchases too. Your "GO" points add up quickly on purchases. Do keep an eye on your "GO" points because the do expire. Prices are on average 20 or 30 percent higher than other stores. Selection is nothing to write home about and sales are often higher than others in the neighborhood. When they are a decent price it's sold out immediately so I don't think they consider the demand. Just stopped for a loaf of white bread for stuffing for Easter turkey and of course they were out. Have been pretty happy with Stop n Shop in Clifton. The have higher prices but they are less crowded than shop rite and the parking lot is safer than ShopRites parking lot where my car always got hit or dinged. Very convenient location. Also has a pharmacy and bank inside. read more

Between this Stop & Shop and the one on Kingsland Avenue, I prefer the one on Kingsland Avenue. I find this Stop & Shop to be a bit darker and the aisles aren't as well stocked. I started coming here and will be for quite awhile because the Shoprite near me is undergoing renovation and parking is a disaster. Just from a few visits, all the items are pretty standard to what you can expect. I've never ran into any problem finding things. The prepared food section is one of the best ones I've seen so far since that's where I get food whenever I'm too lazy to cook. They don't sell alcohol but there is liquor store in the same complex which is still convenient. read more

Eh this place is a bit hit or miss. It's pretty standard for most elements. I like the self check out lane options but I have gotten approached by the PNC (or whatever bank) that's in there to try to solicit business before. Like I want to pay for my groceries, back off from trying to get me to switch banks. Something I haven't seen at a lot of grocery chains is a section for half off day old bakery items near the frozen section. It's a little tucked away, but sometimes it's nice grabbing some muffins or something on the cheap. It's not like it tastes stale. You have to get there early int eh day if you want anything good though. I was looking for distilled water once and they didn't have any which I thought was a basic item and I couldn't find any employee anywhere, so I went to another grocery store. They have some good sales sometimes but it's a bit hit or miss. So yeah I'd say this place is pretty average. Oh and there are two entrances on Allwood and Broad. There are a lot of short-sighted people who want to make a left onto Broad but exit on Allwood and then have a hard time getting to the left lane. Exit onto the Broad Street from the parking lot!! There's a light and everything! Don't be that douche who can't quite make it to the left lane but pulls across and blocks the right lane. Just be a good person and exit at the other side of the parking lot. It's not rocket science. read more

Extremely close to the house, offers a decent parking lot with a liquor store within walking distance. I guess you can call it a one stop shop no pun intended. There's no hustle and bustle here. Long story short I was supposed to get them done elsewhere and after the sample came back terribly (I could have done a better job) and only a week before the event I was scrambling to find someone else to do it....luckily my mom knew Andrea did great worked and she was able to come to the rescue! I understand the store is trying to save as much left over products that stop and shop prepares but to the point of providing a product that is GARBAGE; is just a lack of respect to your clients. I bought stop and shop buffalo tenders and the chicken was HORRENDOUS as if I was placing pure salt in my mouth. I realized that it was not the buffalo sauce but the chicken itself. In order to extend the expiration date of the chicken your company submerges the chicken in salt water or simply added so much salt that the chicken is pure salt no other flavor but pure salt. All of this to extend the expiration date of the product. It is very disappointing that Stop and Shop would get to that level of carelessness and disregard for their clients. This was the last time I buy from stop and shop because who knows what the company is doing with other products. read more

The parking lot is large and marked nicely, with two entrance/exit points. The frozen food and produce are inconsistently stocked. There is a reason the parking lot here is seldom crowded--this is an average, middle-of-the-road, mediocre supermarket--it has mostly everything you want but doesn't delight you or exceed one's expectations in any way. Pros: -The produce section is good and has gotten better in recent years, with more organic and ethnic foods than they used to carry. -PNC Bank in the store -Meat/Butcher department is of excellent quality--comparable to Brookdale ShopRite--and they are extremely helpful. Cons: -Prepared foods and deli are terrible. This is where the store really fails. The prepared foods taste like some WASP whipped up their favorites--no flavor and the variety is something out of a Golden Corral. -Prices have gotten lower, but they still can't hold a candle to ShopRite. -Fish department is unbelievably bad. They have like 4-5 varieties of seafood! That is it! And no one is ever at the counter. -Selection and Variety--this is a market out of Boston, and they don't carry a lot of brands or varieties that I am used to getting in local stores like ShopRite. In general, this is the type of supermarket one would find in middle-America, in a less-diverse, less cosmopolitan area. Stick this Stop & Shop in the burbs of Indianapolis or Richmond, and they might love it...but in an area where we have so much specialty choice (Fairway, Wegmans, Seasons Kosher) and excellent, local stores like ShopRite and Gala Fresh...Stop & Shop is kinda --meh. read more

Consistently inconvenient. With this Stop & Shop being the closest supermarket to my house, it's the place I often find myself turning to for last minute items. Unfortunately, it seems like every time I do, it results in wasted time. Last time, it was bottled water. I literally grabbed the last bottle off the shelf. The only other option was 3 bottles of distilled water (at $.20 more per gallon). It's not like there was an emergency condition like a hurricane... this was mid-week in the summer. The shelves were simply not stocked. So I had to make a 2nd stop at another supermarket to make sure I'd have enough water for my family for the week. This time, baby formula. Instead of stocking the shelves with baby formula, you have to take a paper slip up to the cashier (which means forgoing the convenience of self-checkout) so they can retrieve it for you out of the locked cabinet in the front of the store. Despite there being *dozens* of slips for the formula I needed, after waiting 10 minutes for the cashier to find the guy with the key, it turned out that they didn't have any. So again, 2nd trip to another store to get what I needed. There's only so many times a person can be expected to make extra stops elsewhere to get what they need before they decide to stop making the initial visit on the chance that a store *might* have what they need. There are better supermarket options in the area, even though they may not be as close. read more

Good selection and for the extra added bonus there is a liquor store attached to this store. Its not a part of the store, but adjacent to it. Products here are fresh, shelves are stocked and its clean. I always find the meat that I need here, also their Deli department is immaculate and they will call out your name when your order is ready when you order using their automated computer system. I am not a self checkout fan, but here there are plenty of self checkout registers here. Dont forget to use the store card to save even more at the checkout! read more

Store set up is pretty good. They have a small clearance section that they just relocated to the section by the juices. They have a bunch of different items there that don't have to be refrigerated and the ones are to have three refrigerators are located in a small refrigerator by the end of day baby food aisle. One thing wrong with the clearance section in the cold case is that they typically will sell eggs in half cartons so instead of getting 12 eggs yo get six eggs for half the price. That is not a clearance price, but merely charging me the same price for six eggs. They used To charge about 25% of the price of a dozen eggs for only half the eggs. Somewhere down the line somebody screwed this up . Some of the things that they set up in the story just do not make sense to me like the departments where they put certain items don't seem to belong. I do notice that the bread aisle does not say bread but instead says muffins or something like that. I don't understand why they would not put bread listed on the sign for the bread aisle. When you walk down the aisles in a supermarket you look for the word bread! We have noticed that shopping here over the years that there are several employees that have been here for quite a while. Generally, I'm a fan of S&S, but the employees at this location drive me nuts. They have about 10 "self check out" lanes, and only 2-3 with personnel. The lines with employees are 6-8 people deep, so you basically have no choice but to use the self-check lanes. I don't mind doing the "self check out" when I'm shopping with another person, but its difficult when you are alone. And of course the person in front of me is trying to check out alone, with a baby on his/her hip. Otherwise, the location is great. Parking lot is always busy, but I don't mind walking. read more

I only come here because I need cat food and they usually have sales on the brand I use . Today I decided to do self checkout .. Scanned all my cans when it came time to scan coupons they didn't work .. So I needed assistance. I had three coupons and the cashier who ASSisted me was rude . She argued with me about what coupons and how many cans I had .. I was like read the coupons they are for three different brands and quantities ... She got an attitude .. Why bother having self checkout if u cannot use coupons without assistance . As a previous POS tester and installer the computer reads what and how much u buy of an item ... I was in stop&shop on broad street in clifton and I am handicapped And this young cashier gentlemen Eric was a wonderful help to me as I was buying anniversary card's I accidentally got 2 of the same + a third card which I really wanted two cards. He took me to customer service while I sat in my walker to Get my money back for the extra card I took by accident. Not to mention he went back to the card aisle to get me the right envelope. This supermarket is much more "civilized" than the ShopRite down the street, where I practically get into fist fights over parking spaces and the produce section is so cramped that I feel rushed. Plus, they have the scanner guns that make shopping so much more convenient. No more waiting in line (except for the people who like to put everything into their cart to scan one by one themselves - ugh! Seriously, people. Overall the store is clean and usually well stocked. However the customer service woman is horrendous. Deborah Ackerson has a very bad attitude. After having a problem with hot dogs that were on sale, I returned to the store and brought the sign up to show her. Even though the sale ended 5 days ago she honored the sale, but was annoyed that I brought up the sign to show her. after we were done she did not hank us and started talking about us... Always sold out of products that are on sale, do not carry common brands or are sold out of popular items regularly, never anyone at the seafood counter, people are annoyed when you ask for help, cashiers seem to have limitations should not be in charge, cannot even bag items properly, regularly out of common produce or what they have is not fresh, meat section commonly sold out of regular cut, not many options, only go there for convenience but have been disappointed for years read more

Apparently Stop and Shop was recently voted the worst supermarket in the country. I didn't really understand why since most of the locations I had been to were pretty decent but I saw a lot of the issues with the store at this location. First of all, the selection left a lot to be desired, especially given the size of the store. Examples: many types of potatoes only came in pre-packaged bags so you had to buy at least 1 pound or more and carrots could only be bought in quantities of 4 or more. A lot of the stuff also seemed overpriced in comparison to other stores. They did have a decent meat selection and I didn't have a issue finding other products. The produce options were the main issues for me. One of the best reasons to come to Stop and Shop is their whole wheat Italian bread which they make on site. This locations sells it and this delicious. Make sure you have a Stop and Shop card or get one (for free) so you are eligible for the sales and discounts. I wouldn't come back here unless I was in the area and needed something immediately. read more

Up until this week I would have probably given the store a 3 star rating, however, my last 2 trips have been terrible. I work local so in a pinch on lunch I'll run here. Yesterday I wanted chili, I purchased the pre-packaged "fresh" chili from the case only to discover when I got back to my office the SELL by date was 6 days prior to when I bought it. That went in the trash, then I over heard a guy behind the counter in that section tell a customer "I wouldn't trust the food in those cases". Never again. read more

Used to go to the S&S in Clifton Commons but so glad this displaced the old (read here "crappy") S&S. This is sooo much more convenient. New, clean and variety are great. Only small drawback is it's smaller -- with slightly less selection -- than Clifton Commons. Convenience though makes it the grocer of choice for me. read more

I don't usually write reviews but I'm here to say this store is just OK! A lot of sketchy reviews on here but I would give this store a good review every time. Friendly cashiers, friendly employees! My wife and I come in here often! There's this very tall employee sometimes on register sometimes not, he never fails to make us smile! He's a great help, treats my wife and I with respect, and he is a kind young gentlemen. We make sure to go to his register every time he's around! The store is clean, the managers seem friendly, the atmosphere is lovely! Can't go wrong here! Best food market around! I also believe I spoke to some lady Athena who was very friendly and helped my wife when she had an issue with an item being out of stock.
