Update from previous disastrous experience in July, 2025: So I just moved into the area nine months since my last review and went back into Stop & Shop to pick up something and curious to see how a new experience would measure up. Sadly so frustratingly sadly I had a virtually identical degree of frustration and dissatisfaction, even though the players except for one were completely different. So it began at the self checkout where the machine prompted me to put in my Stop & Shop card, which initially accepted but then rejected. I pushed the assistance button and Michelle came over to help me. Michelle has zero Customer Service appeal. No friendliness or helpfulness in her attitude. We interacted for a couple of minutes. She never greeted me. She never smiled. She kept insisting that I was operating the machine wrong and eventually I was able to make my purchase. She huffed with a disappointed air as I went to the Customer Service counter to get a new card where I was met by Anthony. He asked me for my last name four times before he realized that I was telling him my last name instead of my first and last name. Again he didn't greet me, and he exhibited zero positivity. It was clear that like Michelle I was just interrupting his day! Frustratedly, I asked to speak with the manager and being told that she was on vacation that Joe the assistant manager was still there. You may remember Joe from my earlier review. I made it very clear at the counter to Anthony that I wanted to speak with Joe but he never alerted him. I had to track him down and explained to him just how poor this second experience, this back to back experience, even though the first one was nine months ago, I was having. How disappointed I am that this is the closest store to my new home. Joe looked bored and exasperated throughout the conversation, offering no sympathy or compassion. At the end of the ordeal, I turned to Anthony and said thank you and he didn't respond in any way. He didn't say you're welcome. He didn't say have a nice day. He just stood there with a look of disgust and annoyance. Now, this comes on the heels of me exploring the neighborhood earlier that day and over the last week and having these unbelievably positive experiences with everyone almost to a person that I met in the shops in Hyde Park, the owners of the stores the other patrons anybody I asked for any help including the local librarian, even the guy at the gas station who I asked for directions. All these people took time out of their day to willingly and happily help me. It's very clear that Stop & Shop does not belong in Hyde Park. They have a clearly poor standard for customer service. How they can continue to get customers shop there and pay these ridiculous prices only to be slapped around figuratively by their staff and managers is beyond my comprehension. So Joe, even though you said that you were gonna follow up on these two new issues, we've got Michelle and Anthony to deal with, along with Dan from my last trip there. write an email to the general manager Lois. I suggested you may not want to send it to her until she gets back from vacation, you said don't worry she doesn't open up any emails while she's on vacation. When the indifference starts at the top it's bound to trickle down to everyone else. (Some of following was deleted to fit new review above) Unacceptable Experience at Stop & Shop - Hyde Park, NY I returned after years away, armed with digital coupons and a store flyer, only to face outright confusion and callous disregard from staff. In the frozen aisle, Dan A. vaguely gestured to my product query, then insisted I was "in the wrong store"--drawing a palm map and directing me miles away. My repeated pleas for the store's name went ignored; he smirked as if amused. A nearby employee dodged responsibility, claiming she wasn't management. Escalating to customer service manager Joseph K. and general manager Lois Bruggemann brought no apologies or resolution. Confronting Dan again about his rudeness drew only stony silence. read more

False signs and false advertising. A large corporation can't even price adjust something on the shelf tag when items are misplaced and not listed correctly on SALE signs, Ultimately it would have been $3 loss for them. Even more now since those items were left behind. What happened to "the customer is always right?" Showed two store employees the incorrect signage and no sale. read more

Clean. Found everything I needed. GREAT HELP at self-serve where the friendly, personalized service beat the glitchy "self checkout ". There is hope that AI will not take over the whole world. At least not the supermarket. read more

Stop & Shop - Grocery Near Me - Hyde Park, New York

So apparently this is the only game in town in terms of a supermarket in Hyde Park. Partially it wasn't too bizarre as at home I normally shop at Giant and both Giant and Stop & Shop are owned by Ahold (too bad you can't change out the "D" for an "E") which makes the stores look very similar along with a lot of what's on the shelves very similar with a few exceptions. Exception #1 compared to Giant would be that the isles are for the most part very narrow with a lot of clutter/crap all over the place. Far too many mid-aisle displays to navigate around which only makes small isles even smaller. Similarity #1 would be that the self-checkout scanners are complete crap. You need to scan bar codes over and over and over and over practically contorting your wrist into making some sort of a gang sign to get the damn thing to finally work. Exception #2 would that prices are around 10-15% percent higher for a lot of the exact same name brands or generics which are also the same as Giant generics just with a different label in some cases. Similarity #2 would be that if you forget your discount card or if you don't have one unless you beg someone the "store card" apparently is never offered. Heck of a difference from the Harris Teeter I was at in NC in December where they used the store card for everyone and didn't care. With this in mind we came in on a Saturday for a few drinks/snacks and the store was really busy. After fighting the masses we found what we needed and went to a self-checkout out station to pay after waiting five plus minutes for one to open up. As mentioned prior it didn't work well at all and the person working that area was a real piss ant about me not having a store card even though eventually she relented and found one. As much as I would have rather went somewhere else, this location is too easy seeing as it's right down the road from FDR's house which is about the only thing it has going for it if you're in the area. read more

Stop & Shop - Storefront - Grocery Near Me - Hyde Park, New York

I bought organic kale for that night's dinner salad. Two of the three people ate the kale. We both got food poisoning within a hour of eating. Vomiting throughout the night. I returned to the store the next day to inform the manager and advised him to pull the kale. His response was it was two days past my purchase and too late to deal with it. This situation has to do with food handling. It could be at the store level, during transit or prior to that. It needed to be addressed and the manager was dismissive. I live a mile from the store. Well, as far as "bigger and better," the "better" part didn't last long, what little better they had. Several of the bottle and can return machines are already broken or finicky, requiring frequent attention, cleaning, causing long waits, etc. Even though the bottle return credit slips have bar codes, the self-scan machines still won't recognize them. The cashiers do not ask you for your discount card. If you forget to show it, oh darn, they've made some free money off you. I asked the cashier if the self-scan machines accepted the deposit return credit slips. He said he didn't think so, then said the self-scan machines have had "a few problems." Then he clarified by saying when he said "a few" me actually meant "quite a few." Oh, and the apples I bought today, on sale, tasted awful. I have to say I come shopping to the store 2 to 3 times a week and I'm always searching for top-quality produce which they never have today they had turnips they could use for a science project and on St. Patrick's Day you would look for corn beef and they're out of it whoever is buying their produce whoever is buying their protein needs to rethink their inventories it's because they're always out of stuff or they have too much or something that's turning rotten Also there's managers always standing around while there's only one counter open and they sit there and watch you just a terrible store read more

Also to the maintenance folks and the most helpful gentleman that stocks the yogurt at massapequa and the young gentleman that works the courtesy counter..HELPFUL GROUP OF FOLKS. I've been coming in here every so often but never thought about writing a review of this place (or if I ever did - which I did check - the review isn't appearing in my list of reviews written). So without further ado, let's get this on. (These two might be separated over time, so bear with me.) I'd hate to bother people by writing reviews of two places connected in name and address by one name, but the way things happened and the way its written really is interesting right at first glance. I mean, you can't pay for gas here, while you also can't pre-order food from the gas station, so why keep one listing for address in the gas station. (I also visited the supermarket earlier today.) Let's start with my visit about two days ago to the gas station portion of this Super Stop and Shop in the Hyde Park Plaza, which turned out to be a flop. As I pulled up into a spot, I could hear the station attendant yelling obscenities at someone (couldn't tell who at first). But then again, he could have been having just a bad day - I don't come into this location very often. I thought I'd run a transaction with my GasBuddy card, but although it took my Shell Rewards card (Shell and Stop and Shop are tied to the same account), after I inserted my GasBuddy card, it accepted the card, but asked me if it was okay to place a $75 charge on my card. "Really" was my only thought? I told it no, and the sale was declined (thank the Lord). Thinking that it was a problem with my Shell rewards card triggering a problem, I thought I'd go in through an alternate ID for my Stop and Shop (using my best -known number), but it couldn't find it. I wasn't thinking about my old alternate ID (an old telephone number), and decided that maybe that transaction just wasn't in the cards. It had been 2 years since I used this Stop and Shop before this, but it was high time to run a transaction here again. On today's run into the supermarket, I was looking for a bottle of water to use during my Uber runs around Hyde Park today, and although I was looking for a larger bottled water (larger than the 20 oz Dasani you sell from the cooler in front of most registers) when I found the bottled water aisle, I almost couldn't find enough of the product I was looking for. I was looking for single bottles of Poland Spring spring water (23.7 oz), but was surprised when they weren't found in the coolers. I dealt with buying them when they weren't quite so cool, but had forgotten my Stop and Shop card when I went to check out. I didn't think the Stop and Shop app had a copy of my card information on it, and I couldn't enter in my phone number into the self-checkout registers like some places do, so I had lost these points. It's surprising that there aren't more Stop and Shop's around. We lost one closer to us in 2016 to the now ridiculously-pricey and jealous Tops Markets, and some days I wish it would be back where it once was (Rhinebeck). I'd stop here again, but I'm rarely stopping here because I'm chugging all the way through to Poughkeepsie (or Rhinebeck in most cases) and rarely think about stopping in. I mean, I also stopped into the men's bathroom today here, and although one of the locks wasn't even coming close to working, the other toilet was full of toilet paper that just wasn't flushable when I tried (I desperately had to go, and dealt the best I could with the problems it had.) read more

I'd give it a negative 3 stars. Simply put, the place is FILTHY. The meat department smells rancid. The 'fresh' fruit and vegetables look like they were imported from China on a very slow boat. The aisles and floors are unsanitary. Bring wipes! The selection of products was made from a myopic Lithuanian dwarf who never left the monastery. And their prices are exorbitant. Some would say usury. Their competitive advantage stems from their proximity to several senior facilities and that better supermarkets are located in either Kingston or Wappingers Falls, far away for most of their CAPTIVE audience. Every time I go into this store, I wish I still lived in the south where we had Publix. THAT is a company with good customer service and products- Stop & Shop is just the opposite of that. At least this branch, the only grocer close to me, is. Numerous bad experiences here, including cashiers WATCHING me bag my own products (they never made any indication of going to), cashiers not bothering to say a word to me (not even the total of my purchase), and employees who have no idea what they're doing or where products in the store are. Not to mention, every avocado, peach, and shrimp I've purchased has either been rotten, mushy, or just plain gross. I shop here because I have to, but I definitely do NOT want to. read more

Deli department service is the pits. They are so slow. If I see more than 1 person waiting I will not get my cold cuts there. I spoke to the store manager and the deli manager about long waits but to no avail. read more

It's a supermarket. If you want eggs you drive here and buy some. There's really not much more to say. How could there be? I shop here occasionally.They have some good sales,and have a great meat selection and deli.I like the kiosk where you can order from the deli and go shopping for groceries,and they announce over the P.A. system when your order is ready.Some items they don't have such as the soy yogurt my wife likes, so we usually just get the sale items,and staples here.Also I love the ATM here as you can get tens,fives,or singles,and in any amount you want read more

This is my 2nd favorite Stop&Shop in the area. The layout is a bit confusing compared to others in the area, but it's always clean and well-stocked. In response to the craft beer fans in the area I suppose, there is a walk-in craft beer cooler. The store is always well-stocked and clean. It's a nice layout and very pleasant staff. I'm happy to stop by when I'm in the area. read more

I dread coming to this store. EVERY TIME I get produce here it's rotten. Today I walked past the fresh seafood department and saw the same stuffed fish sitting there for days. It started turning brown. Some of the cashiers watch you as you bag your own groceries and don't bother helping. If I could go negative on this review I would. The only grocery store in Hyde Park. Limited variety, and produce can be "iffy." Employees are very nice. Disappointed that the seafood department closes at 7, a little early for anyone that has a job to come by and pick anything up. Not the fault of the store but it's always packed with slow movers which makes the shopping experience annoying. Alas it is your only option if you are a Hyde park resident and don't want to drive 20 minutes to a better store. read more
