I specifically called to inquire about these two options, between rent and reserve, when on their site. Assured that if I only reserved and did not complete by signing the contract and showing ID, it would revert in a certain amount of time. This was not the case. I sold several of the items I was concerned about storing and called to let them know (the very next day) I would no longer need the reservation. No issues with the guy I spoke to on the phone; they would cancel the reservation, and I'd get my hold refunded within 3-5 business days. I waited a little over a week, but there was no refund. Called back multiple times before finally getting a return call. This time, the guy on the phone apologizes and states that the manager refuses to refund the reservation. I confirmed I did not sign the contract I was emailed, nor did I go in and physically sign one or provide ID. He agreed, but advised that management would not allow the refund. I left a request to speak with said manager, but I never received a return call. After multiple phone calls over a three-week period requesting to speak directly with management concerning the issue, I felt so bad for the poor guy answering the phones, who was obviously caught in the middle, that I finally just filed a claim with my bank. It's an obvious money grab situation. I've already advised seven different people at our complex who inquired about self-storage in the area, specifically not to use Martin's after this encounter.

I rented a storage unit at Go Store It Self Storage (20 Garris Rd, Wilmington, NC 28403) and was assigned a 3rd-floor unit. When I arrived to move in, the elevator was completely broken. The on-site manager openly admitted they could not fix it, and multiple tenants confirmed the elevator had been out of service for days -- meaning the company knowingly rented upper-floor units that were effectively unusable. That's not an inconvenience -- it's deceptive and irresponsible. I contacted corporate customer service expecting a basic level of professionalism. Instead, I was met with indifference and refusal. There was a first-floor unit available, yet they refused to move me as a courtesy, despite the fact that THEIR facility was not functioning as advertised. Their solution? Charge me an additional $30 per month to access a usable unit. In other words, I was forced to pay extra for their failure. That is a textbook bait-and-switch. This company took my money while providing a non-functional facility, showed zero accountability, and pushed the cost of their neglect onto the customer. Renting a 3rd-floor unit without a working elevator is unacceptable and borderline fraudulent. If you're considering this location, be warned: equipment may not work, management won't help, and you'll be expected to pay more just to get what you already paid for. Avoid this place unless you enjoy frustration, wasted time, and being taken advantage of.

I usually pay the storage fee online. However, on this particular day, I couldn't get my payment through on the website - something about cookies. That was the night on the 18th. They were closed on the 19th. Therefore, I went to the office early on the 20th. I told the lady who waited on me concerning the difficulty I encountered on the website. She charged me the late fee anyway! She apologized so much that I wished she would be quiet since she kept trying to have the last word. What more could I do? They have my stuff. If I didn't pay they would sell my things. They won!
