Storm King Adventure Tours was one of the highlights of our summer. It exceeded every expectation. The staff (Colin, the crew and our guest/former guide Cara!) were welcoming, knowledgeable, and genuinely excited to share the beauty of the Hudson Valley and the history of Bannerman Castle. Being out on the water gave us a completely different perspective of the surrounding landscape. The pace was relaxed, giving us time to laugh, talk, and enjoy the experience together. It ended up being one of those rare outings that genuinely brought our group closer. Everything was thoughtfully organized. The equipment was in excellent condition, the guides were professional and friendly, the gear guide and instructions were clear, and the entire experience felt effortless from start to finish. Some of us were first-timers, while others were seasoned paddlers, and the guides made everyone feel comfortable and confident from the start. Every person in our group had a wonderful time. By the end of the day, new passions had been sparked, and we were already planning to get back on the water. Whether you're visiting the Hudson Valley or have lived here your whole life, I can't recommend Storm King Adventure Tours enough. It's the kind of experience that reminds you to slow down, find peace, be present with yourself, appreciate where you are, and enjoy the people you're with. Such a fun day trip! The whole experience was smooth and well-organized. Our guides, Kyle and Audrey, were so kind and informative--they really made the day special. The kayak ride to Bannerman Island was enjoyable, with minimal waves and a gentle current thanks to the good weather (though I imagine it could be easier or harder depending on the day!). Bannerman Island itself is a special little place--full of charm, with beautiful flowers, scenic views, and a peaceful atmosphere. We learned they even host movie nights and live plays there, which sounds like such a unique experience. Fantastic! The price was spot on for the amazing experience that you will have. Our tour guide, Bill, made for an incredible afternoon. My wife and I booked the Moodna Marsh tour. We had a relaxing paddle into the marsh, saw some great sights with birds and then were able to dock on what was the highest tide any kayaker's had seen in some time. The high tide was strong enough to whisk us back faster on our return. We were able to dock in the marsh, enjoy the river and take wonderful pictures. I strongly recommend this tour to anyone and everyone interested in kayaks or beautiful sights. This was a great tour and adventure. I attended this with my son, and we both had a great time. The guides were great, made sure everyone was doing well on the trip across the Hudson River. I have only gone kayaking once before and was able to complete the trip to and from the island after a hike to view the castle. I also got some wonderful pics. I've taken two of their kayaking excursions and both times the experience was fun and enjoyable. If you're an avid kayaker their tours might be a bit too easy. But if you're looking for a few hours on the water, seeing some nice scenery and having friendly tour guides, you'll like Storm King Adventure. Here are a few pros and cons: Pros: really friendly guides, good scenery, easy kayaking, great activity for kids and families. Cons: they make you check in at their offices before going to the waterfront. I'm not sure why, since you can now sign all waivers on-line before hand. The guides aren't naturalists so don't expect lots of info on birds or plant life. They do a full moon kayak trip which seems like it would be cool. Will probably do that next. read more

Had a beautiful 2 hour sunset tour with Kyle as our guide. Easy check-in process and short ride down to the river. Crossing the Hudson was easy (we had great conditions). Got to paddle around Bannerman Island - seeing the ruins and current reconstruction up close was very cool. Paddled back across the river to meander through peaceful Moodna Creek and saw one beaver eating his dinner and another just swimming around. A great way to end the week! read more

Very disappointed. Purchased an expensive sunset kayak tour for Father's Day. Overview stated a stop at the sandbar or marsh before watching the sunset. We didn't stop there. Instead we were lead to a public park, plum point, which was crowded with people. Storm king tours did not have a reserved space for their customers so we pulled up to an edge and stood on the edge of water. Tour guide paddled far ahead of us the entire time, didn't even give any pointers or helpful tips to get through the windy waves and current. Ended in 2 hours and 20 min. Instead of the 3 hours. So upset I spent 210$ for something I could've done for free. Never again. Don't recommend at all! read more

What a perfect way to spend an absolutely perfect September day (in all fairness the staff shouldn't get credit for the perfect weather). We did the Bannerman's island tour (non-hardhat) which lasts a solid 3 hours. I booked a few weeks ahead of time, but upon walking in the owner Kris knew exactly who I was and made sure I was accommodated with everything I needed (parking pass, waiver, driving directions, bathroom, payment method...). They added another stop (to the base of breakneck ridge) to the tour which was great because 1 loop around the castle's island would have been a bit too quick. The kayaking itself was fairly relaxing until the final cross of the Hudson, which was a bit of a grind going against the current. The lead guide Kara really knew her stuff and was very approachable and friendly during the tour (via kayak of course). Not sure if I'll do another trip with them but I will highly recommend this to friends. read more

We were told our tour was cancelled 30 minutes before it started- money (on tolls and gas), time (3 hours) and effort were all wasted on the way from nyc to get there Though, obviously, those who work here can't control the weather, there needs to be a more effective system to tell customers whether or not the tour is happening much before it happens, and not less than an hour before- particularly because you're destroying your customers entire weekend by telling them right before they get there, when you're located essentially in the middle of nowhere. This is as a warning to other customers- though they say they will warn you a day before- that clearly is not always the case. Further through this entire process, the lady on the phone - who is, to my belief the owner- has been curt, rude and dismissive. Where someone who was helpful over the phone could have alleviated the entire situation, her tone was always particularly aggressive and unkind. read more

Kris (the owner) was very accommodating for our party of 14. I didn't set up the tour, but i was sure able to enjoy it. Kayaking the Hudson was something that i didn't know that i needed to do, but after our trip i'd say it's something you definitely need to do at least once. Our group varied widely by age and skill set, some of the adults were very hesitant because they have never done it before. When we arrive to the launch site our guides were more than helpful. I cant remember the girls name with the big biceps and Mike were awesome. They had to tow two of the adults the whole way because they couldn't get the grasp of kayaking. By the time we were on our way back, we lost a third adult, but luckily they radio'ed one of their other guides who had a later group and he towed our last adult back. We tipped them for their amazing service. Don't forget to tip! After our trip we made our way over to Woodys for an amazing burger experience. read more

The day was perfect, the river was calm and we had approx 9 people in our group. We kayaked at a nice pace to Plum Point and walked along the beach. We then toured a marsh area and our guides pointed out the bald eagle and it's nest. Tour was perfect and enjoyed by all. Highly recommend and will definitely come again. *Bannerman's Castle Tour* Went here with my girlfriend on Labor Day for the Bannermans tour. It was our first time kayaking and the people at Storm King really made it the best possible experience. The drive there is scenic and breathtaking and its quite easy. They give you a quick 15 min instruction and rules session and then out on the water. Cold water bottles were provided and def needed because it was super hot out that day. Make sure to bring a sun hat and some sunglasses (cheap stuff) especially on Bannermans since it is out in open sun and can get quite hot. The tour was great, the views were awesome, and the guides super informative and helpful. Definitely coming back here again. read more
