A highlight from the trip. The classic vermouth with a bartender's artisanal spin. 5 stars great! Lovely mid-afternoon service from my bartender when I entered an empty bar. "Let me guess, you want a vermouth?" the bartender said. She was right and the classic red vermouth was exquisite. They make their own vermouth in house and the result is a cocktail-like libation that is more complex than your generic pour around town. Also had the white vermouth which again, house-made, and equally interesting. Bartender was eager to show they did more than just vermouth so I had a gin cocktail which was refreshing. Alas my heart is still with the classic red vermouth. Tiny and cosy space but Story is totally worth seeking out! read more

This place didn't wow me at all. The moment we tasted salmon sashimi and it was sweet, you know it was not right. The internet service at this restaurant is horrible. We had to try tapping so many times. And the waitress thought the payment didn't go through because of their slow internet service that she asked us to tap again. We went on Thursday jazz night, and it was a really great experience. It started at 2130 and we had a reservation exactly that time. They started as soon as we sat down. The food was delicious, and the drinks were pretty good but they gave us the wrong drink and the Long Island was pretty light in alcohol. But I got the sangria and it was good. I loved the music too, it really added to the good vibe of the place. read more

One of our favorite spots in Barcelona. Absolutely adorable little library bar with a super cool vibe. The drinks were fantastic! Fun, interesting and yummy. The pesto pasta was the best I've had and the charcuterie was perfect for our group. We arrived later in the evening and the kitchen was closing but our server was phenomenal and let us sneak in a quick order. Thank goodness because we were so hungry and the food was so good! We wanted to go back during our 48 hours in the city but will have to return another time. This place is totally worth wandering through the alleys for! read more

An intimate, quaint spot in the heart of the Gothic Quarter. We went for the vermouth....we had read that it's one of the best in Barcelona. This is a nice restaurant and even nicer when they have live music twice a week. We came on a weds which happened to be a jazz night and I love jazz so it worked out well. The music started at 9:30 pm and it was good. Relaxing music to go with the food. The place is cozy and reservations is a must. We saw folks being turned away because they didn't reserve a table. I had the San Miguel selecta beer, which is now 1 of my favorites. I also had the Mango salad that was quite delicious. They used fresh produce and mangoes. I also had the popular Octopus, which I think is one of the classic Catalan dishes. Might as well be a locals favorite because I'm loving it! The restaurant is roomy and very nicely designed with large bay windows and plush oversized chairs that one can sink in. Overall, I'm glad we came. read more

We were walking down this very narrow street when we accidentally came across this place. No one was in there, but the vibe seemed just right so we decided to go in and have a seat. Wednesday nights is jazz night during the dinner hour. The decor was very eclectic... library looking space to the right and bar to the left. We ordered a mojito, the caprese salad with pan con tomate. I have to say, we've had a lot of pan con tomate since we arrived and this has been the best so far. The mojito was made with only fresh ingredients and muddled in front of our very eyes. The mixologist is from Bolivia and waitress from Bulgaria. Super great people! Had a great lunch at story. I had a chicken club sandwich and my wife had the salmon sandwich. Both were very tasty. We also both had a cava and a sangria which were good. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Nice R&B music playing in the background. What I really liked was it was in a quiet corner away from masses of people. After dinner, we ventured to find a bar and stumbled upon this place. We came in around 945-10PM, and it was pretty empty. There were only 1 other table being occupied. We attempted to sit near the bar, but the area was closed and were moved to the other side of the bar, next to the bookshelves. The atmosphere was great, very comfy and homey. Who can complain about drinks and books right? We tried to order some speciality cocktails, however we were told they were only serving well drinks, which was a little annoying but we opted for a gin & tonic and a vermouth spritz. For the prices of the drinks, they were good. The gin & tonic was in a high ball glass, and it honestly were more gin! We serves the tonic separately, which I appreciated so you can control your own drink. The vermouth spritz had a nice, bitter kick to it. But it was very light, and smooth so it was great after a meal. The rationale for the lower stars is because they were open for a little while longer and didn't want to serve any speciality cocktails, and they offered us last call at 1025PM, which we declined. However, the other table opted for another round, and after they received their round, we were told we had 5 minutes until they were closing which I felt was kind of crappy. Why didn't they tell them prior to last call that after they got their drinks, they'd have only 5 minutes to drink it? And they basically kicked us out at 1030PM, even though they are suppose to be open until 11PM. Even though its only 30 minutes, its still the principle. Their front door hours clearly states 11PM, I would recommend changing your store hours then. There are so many bars around here, I'll probably find another and skip out here next time. We were intrigued by the huge "story" sign and walked in. Great ambiance and cool decor. We ordered the avocado sandwich - it was delicious and filled with sautéed spinach, very healthy. The sandwich also paired well with the octopus and potatoes. Although we saw another table get the calamari and it looked like it had more fish. The smoked salmon bagel came with crispy potato chips. All very delicious. The food took about 15 mins to come out but everything was fresh and hot. read more

We were reluctant to order the sangria because the sangria was so sweet everywhere else, but this place had the best sangria that I had during my 2 week stay in Spain. This place is a must visit for those who enjoy the cozy cocktail vibe. A full menu but knowledgeable bar tenders who aren't afraid to go off menu to make what you want. During a week in Barcelona we went back three times. Take a minute to stop in between the awesome cultural attractions nearby. If you walk in at a busy time be prepared to wait at least ten minutes for drinks. All cocktails are prepared with love and there may only be one person waiting tables and making drinks. read more

We stumbled upon this amazing place after the James Rhodes concert looking for dinner and a drink and we were thrilled with how lucky we had gotten. First off a bar inside a used bookshop is right up my alley, so I was inclined to love it, but to find a truly great bar was a thrill. This was my first Vermouth in Barcelona and the first of many gin tonics, and perhaps my favorite. Here we experienced the best pan con tomate of the many we sampled in Barcelona. Great place, great food and great drinks, but what really sets the place apart is the great staff. They taught me about Gin Mare, which now graces my home bar, discussed books and even treated me to a shot of my favorite Compass Box scotch blend when I spotted that now elusive bottle on their shelves. A truly wonderful bar, with spot on tapas and a coffee shop/speakeasy sort of vibe that will make you feel cooler than you really are. I came here specifically because I was looking for a cute kitschy coffee, but it seems to also be a restaurant and bar. They have a library filled with books you can read and comfy sofa chairs so it does have more a coffee shop vibe. It was a little bit too noisy but overall great coffee and atmosphere. read more

Great house vermouth - I tried both the red and the white, and really liked both, though I slightly prefer the white. Will be returning to try the house rum (soaked in various fruits). Cute place with a great vibe. The servers were friendly and helpful. We also got the veal with arugula, which was amazing. I heard they have live jazz on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. This place was recommended by our local tour guide, who loves their white vermouth. He was totally on point. read more

A hidden nice place. We went in to hide from the rain so decided to get warm with a glass of wine, had a red dry which was great, next to it we had salmon titaki which was amaaaazing ! Calamari with parsley and garlic which was also was on of the best o had in Barcelona- what a surprise ! Was so good we ended up asked for toasted bread to dip it in the calamari sauce . Fantastic little spot my husband found as we walked the old city. The food was fantastic, we had the cheese and cold cut plate with a FANTASTIC pan con tomate. It's hard to find good bread in Barcelona and the owner (part french) told us he goes above and beyond to get the best bread in town. He was so friendly and entertaining. I never left the greatest bar and person a review, but I know Diego, the bartender, will forgive me. In fact, he can forgive me in about 10 languages because he is that smart. He also fluently speaks the language of alcohol and customer service. Diego made the experience for me and my wife of 5 years the most impressive and enjoyable we've had in a while, which is no easy feat when you have a wife like mine. Story Bar has a comforting atmosphere, provided by soft lighting, feel good music, and books to feed your imagination. However we opted out of the reading experience and went the conversation route. All while enjoying the spectacular cocktails created by our man Diego. His knowledge and passion for his work made it that much more incredible, and after a few drinks my wife was relaxed enough to actually kiss me!
