I just received terrible service from one of your employees at the Stoughton store (10:30a on Sunday, January 18). I didn't get his name, but he just told me that it was "not his job to know everything about the store". This was in response to my question asking what the January 25 percent discount applied to. This young man was on his phone, it seems that I irritated him, by interrupting his texts. I quickly left the store before I said more than, "it is your job to know about pricing and, have a better day." We've been loyal to Stoughton lumber, for the last 15 years. Went in a silly idea of building our own deck.... Walked out feeling confident to do so strictly because of the outstanding customer service from Anthony Gomez! His knowledge (and patience with all of our questions) was remarkable. He never pushed us one way or another on what to buy, just gave expert advise and a few tips along the way. In a time when we have run into struggling customer service wherever we go... this was an amazing experience. Kudos to Anthony and all the staff at Stoughton Lumber! I've always gotten good service here. I ordered all of my building materials for a three season porch project, and the person at the lumber desk was friendly and made sure I had all the stuff I'd need for a standard project like that. As for the hardware store, they have all the hardware store stuff you'd expect, plus a surprisingly large selection of charcoal and grilling equipment. I've also special ordered some things and they showed up fast. This is my go-to place in Stoughton. read more

We have used Stoughton for over 20 years to replace exterior doors. They have a great group of craftsmen who work at it until the finished job looks great. I have recommended them to friends who have been just as satisfied with their new doorways as well. read more

Ace is apparently no longer the place with the helpful hardware man. Every time I come here I leave more and more frustrated because you can never find a clerk who knows where anything is. They choose to give a blank stare and run away. Sad thing is the clerks just stand behind the registers doing nothing when they could actually be learning where things are in the store. I try to shop local whenever I can, but this place makes me want to drive straight past and hit the big box store. read more

I love Stoughton Lumber as a whole, and we frequent there for many of our home update/and fixing needs! They are very friendly, and usually helpful. They get a 3 overall from me, because we called and set up a time for garage door repair, and they never showed, and still have yet to return our phone calls to set up a new appointment or explain what happened? My husband had to take off of work and sit and wait all day for nothing. So I would not recommend their garage door service. But otherwise, very helpful lumber department, and employees in the store! read more

As I help with the girlfriend's projects around the house, this place has been uber convenient and helpful. From suggestions on screws for concrete, lumber suggestions for framework or the simple courtesy and attitude the staff displays, I've been impressed from the start. Their close proximity to both home and the highway is a bonus, too. They're my favorite alternative to the warehouses that are Lowe's or the Depot. read more

Stoughton Lumber is such a helpful, local company. You can really tell you aren't buying or asking questions from a Big Box place. We recently rented a floor sander and it was not the correct one we should have been using. It was 6:50pm and they closed at 7:00pm and they still let us come in & exchange our sander so we could actually keep moving on our kitchen floor remodel. Arrived on a Sunday afternoon.....during the Packer game. Kind of my fault, but I digress. I was looking for information on countertops and was directed to the back display area. Not a person in sight. I looked for what I needed, found sample swatches, walked around for about 15 minutes and left. Not exactly stellar customer service. For comparison, I went to a competitor, got a prompt quote, wrote a check for a down payment in about 30 mins on the same day. read more

I just went into the Stoughton Ace Hardware store for help with a small project. The woman at the check out was pleasant, and direted me to the contractors counter. There were two men standing at the counter, one behind it, an employee, and one over to the side. The were discussing a mutual aquaintance and a job this aquaintace has taken or left, or something. They talked on for several minutes, and I was never acknowleged, or greeted. Finally I asked " Can you help me please" The employee said " Yeah, yeah, I'll get to you in a minute, can't you see I'm busy here?" I replied, "it looks to me as if you are talking to a friend" "I'm talking to a customer" They were talking about cooking by that time and I probably overreacted, but I retorted, "About Cooking? I think I will find another hardware store." I left,and went to another hardware store where i got excellent service. all fingers down on customer service I am a 63 year old woman. Do you suppose that had anything to do with the bad service? read more

We bought a grill and they said they would be there two days later to deliver and set it up, they never showed. Called the next day at 6:55am and wanted to deliver the grill now. Since I work evenings, I did say no. It took over a week to get them back to deliver it. I said, please make sure the propane is hooked up. A week later, after buying meat to grill out I find out they didn't hook up the gas. This morning, I tried to hook it up and could not find the hose to hook it to. I call and ask to speak to the manager and it is the girl who woke me up at 6:55am. She says they can't fix it until later next week. They don't care. I called their corporate office, well they all all locally owned and corporate doesn't care. NEVER GO HERE AGAIN, do not expect any customer service, especially once you leave the store. read more

Rented a tent and other items for a wedding last weekend. This is the second time we have used them. When we had net heard from them in regards to setting the tent up we called. We spoke to Jason who's the "manager" I use that lightly because a manager should never act the way he did. After speaking to my mom she said I should call. He just wanted to argue with me when all I wanted was a straight answer. At first he said the tents are never set up on Monday's. Well they have been. Then he said that it could not be up Tuesday as his employees were off. The next sentence was that his employees cleaned tents on Tuesday...? When I asked for a date as when the contract was signed his employees said Monday the tent would go up. Fast forward the week of our event. They tried to put the tent up Tuesday and it was too windy. Understandable. Wednesday when my dad asked again about setting it up due to the wind and my dad not feeling good about it he said it will be up. It went up not even 1 hour after they left the driveway we noticed about 12 stakes had pulled and lifted from the ground. When we called to ask about putting the sides on the tent we were told no due to how windy it is. Well it's only going to get worse as the weather predicted. So after multiple attempts to contact Jason with no calls back we spoke to his boss Jim. We came to the conclusion that it would be better to take the tent down. 2 days before our wedding we had to move venues. Thank you to Jim for being professional! Jason is a joke and I would and never will recommend this company as long as he is working there. He had multiple attempts to tell my dad with how windy it was it was not a good idea to set it up at all. But he didn't. read more

Jason is the go to person for power equipment. I've purchased a zero turn and push mower, weed trimmer, and snow thrower. He has assisted me with my purchases and when I've needed to rent a piece of power equipment, has arranged delivery to fit my schedule. It's worth the drive to Stoughton! read more
