My 2 sons and I went on Sunday. We were each cut by a different barber. All talented and we received great cuts. Old school feel with new school flair. We have found our new go to barber shop. First of all, this is NOT a 1-star establishment. I'm extremely particular about my haircut. Really tight taper from a 1 to a 3 with a pompadour style on top and a shaved in hard part on the right. Of all the places I've gone (and I'm military so I travel around and have had my hair cut in a myriad of places) this one is my second favourite. I say second because no one beats my hometown barber back in WI. It is, however, a classic men's style barber shop. There are powders, aftershaves, and hair product that go into just about every cut they do. I went there for a quick cut before I went to the gym and the aftershave they applied to my neck after they straight razor shaved it left me smelling fresh and clean through my workout! I got my hair cut by Jay. He's a really good guy. He seemed like he rushed and maybe was nervous at first impression but he's truly just incredible at what he does. He also used a straight razor on my part. I've seen maybe 2 other people confident enough to do that. He checked often to see if his work was how I liked it. Overall I love this place and they earned a lifetime customer in me. Just remember: know how to talk to your barber. They can't get you looking fresh if you don't even know what your own definition of fresh is. Go spend your money here. Basic men's cut is $15 and that includes a straight razor shave on the neck. read more

Please don't take this previous reviewer too seriously, people. I moved to Ballston Spa in 2009 and was visiting these guys as soon as they opened, because it was walking distance from my home. These are two young and dedicated barbers, you can't miss with either one, easily the most complimented and liked hair cuts I've had in my life and they take care of you with the whole job, including the hot shaving cream neck shave. They joke around, it's a loud and boisterous place, it's a barber shop. It's not pretentious or fancy, it's exactly what it should be as a small business in a bustling 250 year old industrial village. They've added elements every time they made a little money since I started going,including new barber chairs, a waiting area with flat screen and cable, and updated aesthetics. But you go to a barber to get your hair cut and maybe joke around a little bit, talk about sports, the weather, etc. This place is the bomb when it comes to that classic barber shop experience. Read the previous reviews and you can tell that a)they contradict themselves b) they have only reviewed this business, ever, and are located in Ballston Spa c) are over the top in their attacks and slander. My money is on them being another barber in the area. This is a great little business and worth your time. Check them out. I've since moved forty minutes away and still make the trip every three weeks. PS - They have a cat. So what? That's nice and different, I think. There is no smell of cat litter. read more

Bucky will leave you with all the hair you ask for! I needed a fade and trim to be in regs and that's what I got. Just enough on top to pretend I care about what's up there. I couldn't find any high or low spots. I have been here 5 or 6 times over the past year. I have never been impressed; there is always hair everywhere and the stations are unkempt and dirty. However, it was never bad enough for me to not return. However, this time was horrible. I was seen by Nick, who was openly mean and hostile to his son who was working at the time. He made some racist comments, and then made sexual comments about the high school track team that runs down the road. I was very uncomfortable the entire time, and will not be returning. I barely spoke to him, and made it obvious I was uncomfortable. He kept making these awful comments and kept being awful to his son/employee. Gross. read more

So torn between a 4 and a 5. So the girl on the phone was super nice but walk ins only was a bit of a disappointment because I knew that around 4ish it would be getting busy. Okay, whatever. I get there and there are about 6 people waiting. Good part is 3 guys were working. So the wait ended up not being bad at all. The guy at the front chair station was super friendly and helpful. The floor was a bit messy; but it is snow season. Cool thing is you can have a beer while you wait. Guy at the back station did a good job and my little was happy with the cut. Will be back and perhaps ask for the guy at the front station that seems awesome. read more

I have barbers in my family, so I take my haircut seriously. We all like to look good, right? I've been coming to straight edge for about a year after moving here and these gentleman treat me right. weather it's old school barber shop talk with the guys, or you wanna vent on some personal nonsense, these guys take care of business just like a good bartender. Noticed this place across the street when I get gas and coffee in the morning and have wanted to give them a try for a while. Stopped in on a whim this past Saturday and got one of the BEST haircuts I've gotten in a while. Seriously. I have fairly short hair and am growing it out into an undercut. It can be a challenge finding someone who knows how to cut the more trendy, extreme looks- especially during the early stages of growing it out. They often don't understand my vision and eff it up. Not this time. I received a FLAWLESS cut. These guys have precision, detail, and an eye for what looks good. You can tell they have a ton of experience under their belt in a variety of different styles. The shop was a warm, welcoming, fun environment. I couldn't be more thrilled with their service and I will definitely be back for future visits. So glad I gave this place a chance! read more

Having just moved to Ballston Spa, I stopped in yesterday for my first haircut at Straight Edge. There was only one barber working on a Monday morning/afternoon, so there was a bit of a wait. However, the shop is very comfortable with a TV and a variety of magazines. Dan, the barber who was working did a great job of keeping everyone moved through, without sacrificing giving each customer a proper cut. As far as my cut goes, I couldn't be happier. I've been to several spots in the Albany are, and Dan gave me the best haircut I've had in years. Couple that with great conversation, and I will definitely be going back! Great haircut, the place is run by 2 guys. I was a walk in on a week night so 1 chair was open. The barber listened to me and gave me exactly what I wanted (I was a new customer and my hair was long overdue for a trim!). Cheaper than most places of that caliber. I had my 4 year old boy with me and they were very good with him. I would definitely let them cut his hair too if he needed it. Will return. read more

Don't believe their advertised hours. After checking the website that claimed they were open until 4:30 on Saturday I decided to make the 20 minute drive there. The door also said they were open until 4:30. It was 3:35 when I opened the door only to be told they were closed. Well I'm not making that mistake again. No more trips there for me. They have lost a loyal well tipping customer. On a plus side they do get two stars because if you can actually get someone to work they do decent hair cuts. read more

NO GOOD...I asked for a fade and left with an all over chop job that I could have gotten a 5 year old with clippers to do. Basically they ruined my hair and now I have to look like an idiot until it grows back. All this for $15. A fade means GRADIENT lengths, not one length all over and hack at the top with scissors. I thought all barbers knew that much at least. read more

All of the barbers @ Straight Edge make you feel welcomed from the moment you walk in the door, it doesn't matter if it is you are a regular or it is your first time. I've been going since the summer of '14 and always walk away with a good cut -- no matter who's chair I am in. The are open early in the morning to early evening and that makes it easy to pop in for a cut, with my erratic work schedule. read more
