Local business. Not a large chain. They have sale items outside. The Oak Island T-shirts are $29.99 that are outside. Inside they have a large collection of name brands (think Yeti, etc). Tons of options of things to buy. Very small store. Parking extremely limited. Know that you are supporting local business and will pay a little more for that luxury. Nice place to browse. Didn't engage with any employees. They were cleaning and taking care of the store. Well kept and organized. Worth taking a look of can find a parking spot. read more

Strands Outfitters has it all! They sale Yeti, Marsh Wear, Salty Crew, Salt Life, Quicksilver, G-Shock, just to name a few. Very large selection. Great seasonal sales. Large parking area. Clean restroom. Fair prices. Check these folks out, I'll doubt you'll leave empty handed. read more

They have quality products but prices are high. The staff is oddly unfriendly and do not make you feel welcome, sometimes eyeing with suspicion. It is quite off putting. I won't go there unless I absolutely need something. Without customers you wouldn't have a business so why not show some friendliness instead of glum annoyance? read more

Was out to eat and inquired on another patrons shirt and shoes. It just happened to be the owner and he advised his locations, with a smug facial expression. I didn't think anything about it as we overheard his wife mention their daughter had just been in a car accident. Couple of days later, I go to both Stands Outfitters stores, as their shoe store is now separate. Upon entry of both establishments, I was not greeted. That said, everyone else who walked through the doors was greeted with a smile. As I searched for my sizes, no one did their job...at least for me, as I noticed everyone else was getting assistance. I needed some new beach wear and didn't come on vacation completely equipped for my time, so I had to make some purchases. As I stood in line, I wanted to walk away because no one even asked "did you find everything you were looking for?" It was very apparent and it wasn't hidden, this establishment did not want money from an African American being spent there. Low key whole town feels "Sundown Town-ish" Thanks for the shoes, shirts and bracelets for my kids though. read more

Great shop on Oak Island. Amazing selection of tshirts for adults (Under Armour, Simply Southern, etc.) found a swim shirt for my "easily burns" child. Lots of cute jewelry, stickers, and other beach necessities. Parking lot can be tight, and the store gets crowded soon (a sign that it is very popular!) so come early. Last year we went on a rainy day and it was slammed... so this year we came right at opening so we could move around without the crowd. Highly recommended. read more

This place has some nice offerings and is a local family business so I was excited to shop there and support them. However upon entering and browsing thru some of their clothes I came upon the hat section. I was disgusted to see some of the hats being sold that had political themes. For a country so divided and to see slogans that are totally disrespectful from any business is very disappointing. I will be taking my business elsewhere. The owner should know better than to be selling this type of merchandise however it's his perogative as it's mine for not spending a dollar there. read more

One of our favorite shopping sites on the island! Worst part about it, and it has nothing to do with them, is that it's a bit pricey! Just about everything in the store is "price locked" by the manufacturer. That means they can't sell products at a reduced price. This isn't your tourist kind of store with knick-knacks, it's an outfitter store and products are of a high quality, and pricing comparable to other outfitters I've been in. They do carry a nice inventory and selection for what manufacturers they do carry. I got an etched Yeti this year with my company's logo on it and it came out great. We'll definitely be back next year! read more

I was a little skeptical of Strands at first, not because I doubted the quality, I just typically don't wear that particular style of clothing. They have a pretty decent sized store with a large selection of ocean and outdoor apparel. I agreed to tag along here with family because I was told they had a deal on sunglasses and had been looking for a new pair. I was not expecting much and did not anticipate actually buying anything. They are stocked with yeti merchandise and a lot of women's clothing and jewelry. There are five or six rows of name brand sunglasses in glass casings. I ended up finding a pair of brown tortoise ray ban wayfarers. I got a great deal on them and would not have bought them at retail. If you vacation in Oak Island regularly and have not been here I recommend giving it a try. read more

Very nice selection, though prices are a little high on some items. We tried to stop in during their posted hours a couple of times and found them closed, but got lucky on our third try. Staff are helpful, good variety of brands and sizes. They also have a large selection of customized Yeti products. Definitely worth stopping by! read more

This place is nice and a lot bigger than you think once you get on the inside. My only concern is that the entire time I was inside this place, it smelled of dog food. Terrible customer service,rude employees that csnt even answer a question using the Internet. Everything is overpriced. Just go to CABELAS and get Ozark Trails tumblers from WalMart. Check out YouTube,they are actually better but 10-12 bucks a pop. read more
