They found their way to my Instagram feed, so I got in the car and found my way to their shop. If you have never been to Alton, I highly recommend a mini road trip. The drive is beautiful no matter what direction you're coming from. I live in St. Charles county and took one of the river ferry's across into Grafton. The River Road gets you to Alton in about 20 minutes. Both Grafton and Alton have great food and antique stores to choose from. I was warmly welcomed into the shop. One of the co-owners was there during my visit to assist and answer any questions. The main level is eclectic filled with furniture, knick knacks, and tchotchkes. There is also a smaller selection of clothing on the main floor. The upstairs is a vintage shoppers dream! Clothes, coats, shoes, and accessories. I'm am a fuller bodied person and sometimes have a hard time finding anything in my size. They are size inclusive and did carry true plus size clothing. I can't really speak to value. If I see something and love it, I just buy it. But I believe the pricing is fair considering the care and attention given to the quality of the items they have curated. If you love vintage, you're going to love shopping at Strangelovely. I am so glad Kim relocated her fabulous shop from Chicago back to her hometown roots. It fits perfectly inside this historical home. Her boutique has not only fashions, but decor for the home. I missed out on two fabulous nude male sketches for my new bathroom. They were snatched up by another shopper and we had a good laugh. He was buying them for the exact same reason. One table displaying a large variety of serving pieces really caught my eye. It had something for everyones taste. It was a good mix, of silver-plate and brass. With these pieces, a novice could create a stunning table for entertaining. I only made a small purchase, but it was a favorite item. I added two soy candles to my collection in masculine scents, Tobacco and Black Pepper. I can't wait to strike a match and have the aroma fill my new house. Kim and her associates were charming and helpful. You'd be hard pressed to find another in Chicago that looks as good. Kim, the owner, has a great sense of design and it's evident throughout the store. Her high-end collection features clean merchandise and moderate-to-higher prices. There's furniture, home decor items, lamps, women's clothes and shoes, and some jewelry -- all tastefully displayed in a bright, warm space. My fiance and I have come in here a few times before and were so happy to find some nice glasses there the other day. This place is definitely worth stopping into. Always some great finds in here! Kim has some of the best inventory in Chicago. And ruggggs oh my god rugs and sofas! I see a chesterfield from her here and there and I am just drooooooling. I came across this place a year and a half ago when I bought my house. I bought several pieces and one was this brass coffee table. I can't say enough about it. But I adore it. When you walk in, it smells amazing, the place is set up do beautifully it makes you want to literally move in. Kim (Owner) is an amazing curator. After spotting StrangeLovely , I never made it to the other place-- I was immediately drawn in by the colorful , stylish and unusual display of one of a kind vintage pieces.. The merchandise is beautiful and the atmosphere was so low key, it was refreshing. This is the place for one of a kind classic and stylish vintage furniture, clothing, and mid -century treasures. . I can't explain enough how much I love this store. We happened upon this store after seeing something on Craigslist and felt like we'd fallen in to a wonderland of vintage finds. We had just moved in to a vintage apartment and our goal is now to make it look just like the store! We buy things every time we go in, which is often. And we LOVE Kim. I mean LOVE her! After going to the store once and realizing it was exactly the look we were going for, we asked Kim for a recommendation for a decorator and to our (unbelievably pleasant) surprise, she said she would help us out! She has consulted for us on what pieces we should look for (like buying a round table for our oddly laid out dining room - we never would have figured that out ourselves and it's PERFECT) and done some styling/placement of pieces (mostly bought from StrangeLovely). She has beautiful mirrors (we put three on our living room wall) and amazing couches (they sell quickly - follow her on Instagram to see what she gets in) and other furniture (we bought a great chair and a bunch of small tables). And the knick knacks! We have brass boxes, candlesticks, a birdcage, trays, an abacus(!)...I could go on and on. Seriously, it's the perfect store. Go there if you like vintage.
