When a reviewer has to resort to name-calling and has no details to his/her case, you have to suspect that something is more wrong with the reviewer than the attorney. From the very beginning, I came to Dave with a case that proved to be quite challenging. Unlike any normal uncontested case, this one proved to be highly-contested and lasted for over 2 years. Throughout this process, there were two trials; an extended order of protection; supervised parenting; financial settlements; property-separation settlements; a court-appointed psychiatrist for custody evaluation; a guardian ad litem; expert witnesses; court transcripts; and hours and hours of testimony. Through it all, Dave was patient, attentive, kind and effective. Dave knew what to do and how to go about doing it, even before the opposing counsel acted. This divorce could have easily costed over hundreds of thousands of dollars. Dave was so cost-conscious that this divorce cost well less than even one hundred thousand dollars! My ex-spouse spent an estimate of three times as much, using four to five lawyers who threw everything but the kitchen sink at us, in court. Dave handled these motions, seamlessly, and with a disciplined fiscal responsibility that would make any member of Congress envious. Dave not only saved me heaps in the divorce, he was highly effective in neutralizing the opposing counsel (OC). One of the OCs tried to steer the case to a different court and by a different process. Dave was not fooled and fought to keep everything on track. Another OC literally tried to belittle him before the Judge, but Dave remained calm and determined. A third OC tried to justify a part of the law in an inaccurate manner, but Dave immediately retorted the correct interpretation. Dave also knows where to get good resources to back him up. In my case, Dave consulted with a psychiatrist and successfully discredited not one, but two of my ex-spouse's psychiatrists! This was a key battle in my case that I believe ultimately won me full custody of my child and everything else I wanted from the Court. And, because he is quick on his feet, Dave was able to discredit the major positions of both psychiatrists by simply demonstrate how they conflict their own logic and conclusions. Bottom line, if you want a lawyer with a quick wit and an in-depth knowledge of the law, then Dave is your man. Let's be honest, going through a divorce, especially a non-contested one and for the first time, can be emotionally exhausting. Dave made the situation comfortable, with his sense of humor, kind rapport and reassurance with a battle plan. He is open-minded; continuously asking for my input; without requiring me to take time off of work to go to Court every time the OC thinks of something else to falsely accuse me of doing. I was supposed to have a simple divorce with a short marriage and no kids. Russell disappeared for weeks at a time, charged me for follow-up emails asking where he is and did not negotiate effectively on my behalf. The worst part, he did not seem to care that he is ineffective. The final straw for me was when Russell blocked my number and passed my case off to Victoria without telling me. I had to find out from my ex that Victoria was now handling my case. After 4 months and $4,000 of fees paid ($7,000 billed) for him to keep stalling, I finally fired him and hired a new attorney. Within one week of hiring my new attorney, she was able to negotiate a settlement that was more fair than what Russell was telling me I either had to take or go to trial. My new attorney used the same facts Russell had at his disposal for four months and kept telling me he "didn't know" what I was entitled to without hiring an actuary. My new attorney figured it out in 24 hours by asking two follow-up questions to OC that Russell never bothered to do. If you're still reading this review, and are considering hiring Russell, proceed with high caution and low expectations. The read I got on Russell was that he was purposely dragging out this simple divorce so he could charge as much as possible. He was great at first and recommended a solution, and the moment I paid him everything went to hell. What was supposed to take "a few weeks" took 6 months, was done incorrectly, and I had to contact a second attorney to contact him to provide the services I had paid for. He made errors in our wills, he forgot numerous times about meetings with my family to sign documents (wasting two hours round trip driving), gave possibly 15 promises in email regarding when I would have documents, and every one of them were broken. At some point he stated that my documents had been sent but did not receive tracking information.....they are considered "Lost by the post office" to him so God knows if he actually sent them out and someone has my estate planning, or if he just gave me one more BS excuse. I am currently paying someone else to undo some of the work Howard did and correct it. The new practice stated he used cookie cutter templates that did not even speak to IL laws correctly. He is unorganized and has no customer service skills. I wouldn't recommend him for anything.
