I don't know how the other positive reviews came about, because our experience with HMC Contracting was pretty bad. We had our enclosed patio redone... It took forever, and once we were in the process I couldn't wait till it was over. It felt like the Three Stooges were sent to do the work. The painting had to be redone several times -- their "team" clearly had no idea what they were doing. We had to have them rebuild the door at least twice, because the quality was truly subpar. Six months later, the door is already showing age (see photo). They were careless with the space (inside the patio, and in the surrounding garden). They never cleaned up after themselves. I had to entirely cut back one of the plants behind the patio because it was so badly broken. I'd find nails and debris around outside that I would have to throw away; they brought plastic, but barely covered our patio furniture (so I did that myself); and they broke one of our side tables. Attention to detail was absent -- I've attached photos of just SOME of the trim corners that do not match up -- there are gaps instead. Chad and his son Adam were nice enough, but we were paying for something that should've looked excellent in the end. It looks OKAY (if you don't really look at the details), and it was no fun getting there. I would absolutely suggest using a different contractor. read more

I took bids from multiple contractors to demo our existing 8' x 33' deck and 8' x 20' overhang. It was in horrible shape, and (worse) had been anchored directly to our house by the prior owners. Chad and HMC were the most reasonable bid for the scope of work and my wife and I could not be more pleased with the results! Demo took only a couple days, and (once the construction crew was assembled), construction took less than a week, including the new roof. The new dimensions are 14'x20', and it's a fantastic living space. My girls love being outside on it. And, to boot, I've gotten compliments not only from neighbors, but from two other contractors who have come to my place for unrelated jobs. Renovation projects for my home I bought in 1998 have all been tests of my endurance and patience as much as updating and repairing a house built nearly a century ago. My latest project with HMC Contracting has proven uniquely different. First, it was uniquely efficient. I sent a request for quote over a weekend, Chad Mabry of HLM Contracting called me on Monday, we met on Tuesday, I received the contract and approved it on Wednesday, work started on Thursday. Unforeseeable issues were addressed immediately. I don't know if that happens every time, but it did for me this time. The teams doing the work were uniquely friendly, polite and hard working. Most of the work took place outside my window, so I was privy to all of it. The noise started on the dot in the morning and, other than lunch, went non-stop til dark come rain or shine. From 30 years in business I know meeting customer expectations is hard, as is managing employees and coordinating vendors. But to do all three well at the same time? That's nearly impossible. But Chad not only did it every day, he made it look easy and seamless. That is the mark of a true professional. I was uniquely impressed with Chad's knowledge and skills, efforts to keep me informed and ability to keep the project moving along. Chad and his crew installed a screen around our covered porch last year. He promised us that the screen material was impenetrable. At first we were pleased with the work. But within a few months we noticed several holes starting to form. Chad said this was probably because of construction next door so did not fix it. Since then, we have noticed small perforations all over the screen walls. Our screened in porch is not even a year old. We have called numerous times and have received no response from him to address this. I do not recommend using HMC. read more

HMC rebuilt a portion of our collapsing deck and replaced with composite, new rails, and new stairs. The result is great. However, Chad knows what he's doing so well, he sometimes forgets to explain all things. We wish we would have known how the composite was going to be attached, that the painting could have been done around the spindles in advance, and that the stairs were going to be moved (slightly) from their original position. We recommend asking all the questions up front to avoid surprises. read more

After securing bids from about 5 different vendors to build a deck for our new home, my wife and I decided to work with Chad and HMC. Chad provided a very competitive bid with absolutely no surprises in terms of pricing. The work that they did, however, was incredible. Chad worked to build a deck of top quality wood that stylistically matched our front porch. The deck is absolutely beautiful. 6x6 capped posts, two sets of stairs, and a walkout from our home. They also covered over a concrete slab porch so that the walkout into the deck is seamless. Chad also was able to provide a few insights along the way to make the project better than I had visioned. He envisioned a step down to a landing pad, which created almost a separate room. He also advised that I not add another set of stairs in the middle which would have cost more money (meaning more profit for him), but interrupted our yard space. I greatly appreciate this insight and acknowledge that he forwent potential profit here for the benefit of my project. His team came in and worked quickly and efficiently and were able to knock out the entire project in just 5 days! It was only about 2 weeks from our initial estimate until completion.
