The beauty of Western Mass is summed up in the view of the Connecticut River from the bridge, especially during foliage season. But I digress, back to the Freight House, my favored stop on my tours. It's a worn place, antiques lining its broad porch and spilling over into the neighboring area with cement and stone yard ornaments. Don't be deterred! Inside you'll find rooms stuffed with antique brick-a-brac, but make your way to a stool at the food counter. Service is prompt and personable - well, of course, there's only a handful of stools. The prices are fair, and I love this unassuming oasis and the folks that work here, so I tip generously. I've sampled most of the menu items, and always been satisfied. But the hidden gems are the homemade pies. I love a good pie, and most pies don't measure up. I look for a great crust, flakey on top and bottom. Then I want a good filling, full of authentic flavor, not cloyingly sweet, or runny, or gelatinous. Tough to find? Yup! Found it here, at Freight House, every time. Great pie (and food), a cup of coffee, and I'm off to the French King bridge, the Quabbin, and the open road.

This is what popped up via search engine, and I cannot believe this could be the place my friend intended. The setting looked so cool, in photos and as I pulled up. I'd driven an hour to get there, and was dying to hit the restroom before looking around, and there were all kinds of unwelcoming signs everywhere. "Bathroom for customers only," well considering this is in BFE, I can't imagine tons of randos are just stumbling through the door. There was a small cafe attached, and that seemed to be the only part doing any business. And after a quick wander around the shop, that made total sense, because the prices on the antiques and other items were absolute insanity. A small jar of used golf tees: $18. Little saucers I find at my local goodwill for 99 cents, around $20. Tiny jars of nothing-special buttons: $24. The vibe was decidedly crotchety-old-should-not-run-a-business. I get businesses dealing with public can be not fun, but the tone of the whole place was just "get off my lawn." No thanks! Friends, spend your time and money elsewhere. These people should retire.

We have purchased antique prints, glassware and WWII memorabilia. But you have to get there early. Doors open at 9:00 and people start lining up as early as 6:00 a.m. The line starts at the west door. The regulars bring "sold" stickers and quickly place them on items as they are enter the building. Parking is limited and tight. The building also houses an antique mall with a broad arrange of east coast antiques. Ask for a 10 percent discount if you pay by cash or check on items over $25. The staff is friendly and accommodating. If you like antiques, Sanford and Kid is a unique and fine experience.

They throw what they don't want to the side, open boxes and don't close them and refuse to get out or someone else's way, they are literally like vultures picking bones clean. The store itself is nice, the owner is friendly and the employees are pleasant, its the "regulars" that really make this place suck. If your interested in shopping there on Friday morning bring you and 10 of your closest friends and start standing in line at 8:30am. As soon as u enter grab EVERYTHING you might suspect as valuable. (cause that's what these vultures are doing)

I just had the most terrible experience at Hens & Chicks. I bought clothing there for the first…read moretime and got home only to find out it had a large stain on the butt of the pants! I brought it back to return and the worker told me they have a no refund policy and pointed to a sign I didn't see when I checked out. I showed the worked the stain and said, don't you have a no stain policy? The worker said no, it's your responsibility to fully check over the item before purchasing. That sure would have been nice to know BEFORE I bought anything! I can't even donate these pants to the Salvation Army because THEY have a no stain policy. I will never shop here again. You can get higher quality items at free clothing closets. Save your money.

This is a great stop for unique gifts by Vermont artists (though there are items from elsewhere as well). On one side of the store you can find slabs of wood and some unique furniture pieces. On the other side is more of a gift shop with some incredibly beautiful hand-crafted wooden bowls, boards, utensils, and more. You can also find pottery by Vermont artists in varying styles. The ladies who were in the store were helpful, but left us alone to roam and discover. This is NOT a bargain place. If you're looking for a touristy stop for cheap souvenirs, move along. This is an artisan shop and the artists' know their worth. Expect to pay appropriately for the artistry and time it takes to create these beauties.

Burned into the bottom of each bowl is John McLeod's signature, as well as care instructions and Vermont Bowl's logo. They are truly works of art and the wood! The wood is simply stunning. With Donna's expert help, we chose Yellow Birch in the Tulip shape, as the color would show off the image well and the shape would make it easy to burnish. The customer service was fast, the shipping was very reasonable, and the product terrific. We are so proud to give this hand-crafted gift to our good friends. We are sure they will order a matching family-sized salad bowl to go with. What a find!

The Brattleboro Outlet Center is one of my favorite places to shop in the area. They have a great…read moreselection of factory outlet stores for both men and women, and the prices are reasonable. My favorite stores in this center are Van Huesen and the Bass Shoe Outlet. Every time I stop here I leave with bags of merchandise. The building itself is unique with its rustic barn ambiance, and overall the place is kept extremely clean. The bathrooms are industrial but clean, and there is ample parking around the stores. The Outlet Center is also conveniently located off Exit 1, but sometimes getting back on the highway can be a pain if it is during rush hour traffic. Overall this is a great Outlet Center with great stores and deals. It would be nice to see the center continue to have these great stores and possibly expand to other brands in the future.

I double-checked and considered returning the plant, yet she still didn't explain anything... it wasn't until I asked why I was being charged a higher price for the same product without reason that she gave a vague answer--something about one was a cut plant and the other being the original one they imported...? I like this store, but I was really unhappy with the cashier's attitude. I would have gladly paid for the plant if she hadn't removed and discarded the price tag and had clearly explained the reason for the price change before I paid.
