While passing through downtown Greenfield this store caught the corner of my eye, so I decided to stop in. This antique and consignment store is fairly new to this particular space and it was chalked full of different items. The best part about this store was the fact that the rear of the store houses a few spaces that are dedicated to arts and sculptures. Some of the items included paintings, candles, and other unique sculptures. Beyond the incredible artwork, the prices in this store were incredibly overpriced. This is typical of most antique and consignment stores, but posted around the store were signs stating that their prices were "firm and fair". This was a bit of an overstatement due to the fact that you could find similar items for half the price at some of the shops in Deerfield. Overall, the store was well organized and it is clear that the merchants selling their goods are trying to make their way. That being said, I hope that the staff and vendors will be more reasonable with their prices so that they can move their items. Besides the complaining, it is a nice store situated in the heart of Greenfield.

Lots of cool stuff but on the $$$ prices than what I'm used to in Florida. I'll go back when visiting again.

Great place to wander and browse. Good folks work here. Stop in if you're leaf peeping or cruising up to ski country, it's worth a look

This was a great antique shop with three floors to explore. They seem to have something for every collector.

To make a long story short, they were out of my first choice on the menu. As I was considering what else to order, the owner came up from behind and made a snide comment and then walked away. I was surprised, especially since in past years, Freight House was a friendly place to stop. I left right away and was upset in the car. Suggestion 1: let people know when they sit down at the counter if you are out of menu items. Suggestion 2: don't be rude to your customers. Wow, can't believe that I actually have to "suggest" that.

The beauty of Western Mass is summed up in the view of the Connecticut River from the bridge, especially during foliage season. But I digress, back to the Freight House, my favored stop on my tours. It's a worn place, antiques lining its broad porch and spilling over into the neighboring area with cement and stone yard ornaments. Don't be deterred! Inside you'll find rooms stuffed with antique brick-a-brac, but make your way to a stool at the food counter. Service is prompt and personable - well, of course, there's only a handful of stools. The prices are fair, and I love this unassuming oasis and the folks that work here, so I tip generously. I've sampled most of the menu items, and always been satisfied. But the hidden gems are the homemade pies. I love a good pie, and most pies don't measure up. I look for a great crust, flakey on top and bottom. Then I want a good filling, full of authentic flavor, not cloyingly sweet, or runny, or gelatinous. Tough to find? Yup! Found it here, at Freight House, every time. Great pie (and food), a cup of coffee, and I'm off to the French King bridge, the Quabbin, and the open road.
