We had an outdoor open bar during cocktail hour, and their staff transitioned everything seamlessly into the indoor bar for the reception--our guests didn't miss a beat. Very clean, bathrooms were spotless, and place appeared well kept and modern. Dining Hall was very nice, food hot & fresh, and servers were very gracious, and kind during the service. What really made it exceptional is the service was from 12:00-3:00 but several people arrived late yet the staff still stayed on and took care of them. Two thumbs, thanks so much for the kindness, good food, and clean facility.

Walking through the restaurant was nice as the space was very large and the decor indoor was cozy and whimsical. Our server was nice throughout the meal. However, I did get a water glass that had marks on it that looked like someone just drank out of it and a crumb on the rim. I asked them if they could get me a clean cup and they ended up bringing the same one as the same mark and crumb were still there. For food, our table ordered a few items to share. We got: -CAULIFLOWER WINGS: The chutney/salsa on top of the fried cauliflower was nice and gave the item a little sour kick. However, the cauliflower itself was not cooked fully so not as soft as I wanted it to be. -SYRACUSE POUTINE: The appearance of the poutine was not the best. However, the gravy it came with was very flavorful and tasty. The potatoes themselves were not fried and were in wedge form but went well with the gravy. The small globs of melted cheese on top were a nice complement. -CAJUN SLIDERS: The slider compliments/sauce went well together but the sliders themselves had grill marks on it which gave a bitter bite to those parts of the slider. Additionally, the fried shrimp inside of the slider still had the tail on and so it was a bit of a surprise to bite into a full tail while eating a slider. All in all, a cute spot to see people but food had some hit or miss components.

Hotel decor was pretty spectacular, until you got up close and realized that much of the intricate scrollwork was not wood, but resin replacements molded on the few remaining wooden pieces left from the late 19th century. We had a sleeping room directly across the street from a huge, brilliantly illuminated museum sign that flashed all night long. The blackout curtains weren't. We tried one of the restaurants on the ground floor of the hotel, which was adequate but expensive. From that point on, we ate elsewhere, including at the fabulous restaurant and small business incubator across the street, and the wonderful Chinese restaurant about two miles away that also happened to serve dim sum. We were shipped two large packages while there, and the front desk staff was incredibly helpful in locating and providing those packages to us. Later, it came time for me to send out some parcels from those packages for folks who were no-shows at our conference, and once again, the front desk staff were incredibly helpful in providing some packing materials and boxes from their Receiving department for my use. As part of a larger conference, our small group had the use of one of the ground floor meeting rooms for an hour early on a Saturday morning. The hotel staff was very helpful in allowing us in an hour or so before our meeting was to begin to permit us to set up for our session.

The staff here was very helpful, accommodating, and easy to work with when booking the conference room. They were equally helpful when I arrived and needed access. The room had a TV in it as well as a large table and it was comfortable for the all day meeting we had. Regarding my staff, checking in was great. The folks at the front desk were friendly and helpful. They have an M Club here, which I visited a couple of times. I wanted bottled water, which they don't have in the M Club, rather you need to get it from the front desk. They use water refilling stations in the M Club, which I hate when staying in a hotel, I'd rather have the bottled water in the fridge in my room, so I'm glad they were able to accommodate me on this. The guy working the M Club both times I visited (in the evenings) was great, friendly too! The hotel itself is BEAUTIFUL! Honestly, I stay in hotels weekly and I'm pretty much done with the typical design of the average Marriott and this one breaks that mold! It's historic, beautifully renovated, perfectly operational, and centrally located. My room was very nice! They upgraded me to a suite and when they told me this during check in, I wasn't too impressed, as I hear that I'm "upgraded" all the time, but when I get to the room, they look typical. This room was HUGE! It had a living room, two king size bedrooms, and two full baths in it. The living room had a nice desk and plenty of seating for a family. There were also 3 TVs in this room. Bathrooms in the rooms were beautifully renovated to have a period look and they worked nicely. Housekeeping even did a nice job keeping everything polished in this room. Overall, I really enjoyed this stay. I'd most definitely return here in the future!

We shared the grilled octopus and the charcuterie board. The octopus was delicious! The charcuterie was a nice mix of items, except the cheese. Portico - Del Lago Resort & Casino (and that star is…read morefeeling generous) New Year's Eve. Bad weather. Half-empty dining room. Somehow... still disappointing. Service was fine and friendly. Thus the one star. I ordered beef carpaccio, expecting delicate raw beef. What arrived instead looked like a lonely slice of cold roast beef you'd find sweating under plastic wrap at a deli counter. Not raw. Not delicate. Just confused. The side dishes were served at outdoor temperature, which was impressive considering we were inside. The potatoes and broccoli were so cold they may have skipped the kitchen entirely and come straight from the parking lot. Then there was the steak. Ordered black and blue. What I received was neither black nor blue, but a sad shade of gray, with absolutely zero char. It looked like it had been politely warmed by someone thinking about a grill from afar. And here's the real kicker: Fabio Viviani's name is on this restaurant. If this is what's being served under his banner, someone should check on him to make sure he doesn't have dementia --because this meal looked like it would personally offend him. I can say with confidence: Fabio would not be proud. He might not even admit knowing this place. For a casino restaurant on New Year's Eve--when expectations are already modest--this was still a miss. The room was half empty, the weather was terrible, and somehow the food managed to match the weather perfectly. If you're looking for chilly sides, deli meat carpaccio, and a steak that fears a grill, Portico might be your lucky bet. Otherwise, I'd recommend rolling the dice literally anywhere else.
