I've visited several times. There's not many fancy upscale places to stay near there nor eat. This place is a treat. The smell of cedar makes you feel as if you're in a log cabin. Plenty of parking for snowmobiles. Their food is delicious, service is great ! I believe Taylah was our server absolutely adorable . It's a small town... be easy. The pool table and dart board area was very nice. But they really need a new dart board as it is old and off center. The ambiance with music playing and bar area is very nice. But the food was not very good at all. The smash burger was overly oily and truely awful. The bread was ok as it was warm and cinnamon butter was tasty The potato soup was the only good item. The food was excellent, I got the elk burger and was advised to get it medium rare which was on point as there is so little fat and it tends to be dry. My husband ordered the venison chops and loved them. Service was fast and efficient but a little lacking for being our first time there, the server could have mentioned the jalapeño jelly when she dropped off the bread because that jalapeño jelly was amazing!! When asked what her favorite menu item was she deferred to " well everybody has different tastes" and didn't answer my question. I ordered French onion soup and a lobster roll platter for a main, served with oodles of piping hot sweet potato fries ($2.00 upcharge). I needed my husband to share the fries since the serving was so large. The lobster roll was good and it came with a small dish of pickled carrots and cucumber. I recently stayed at the Tailwater Lodge for a wedding, and we had a great experience with the food and service here. The restaurant definitely gives you that cozy lodge feel with the wood elements and decor. I had breakfast, lunch and dinner here, although dinner was provided at the wedding. For breakfast I had a really great cup of coffee and the avocado toast with eggs on the side. The avocado toast had interesting toppings on it that I wouldn't normally think to put on it, but it was very tasty. I came back for a quick lunch before the wedding I got a glass of wine and ceaser salad and french onion soup. Both were very good. The soup had good flavor and the salad was well dressed. Both of my servers were exceptional, extremely attentive and friendly. Our dinner which was served at the wedding was great. It was buffet style with lots of options. Mashed potatoes, rolls, two types of pasta, prime rib or salmon, it was great! I definitely recommend the Tailwater Lodge restaurant if you're ever in the area. read more

Side salads were VERY fresh. 3 of us got their broiled North Atlantic Haddock with bread crumb breading. Again A++. The Garlic fries were amazing. I made a reservation for 2 at 6:30 on a Saturday. When we arrived they took us to the back room next to a table with a baby. We ordered drinks and 30 minutes later are told the beer ordered is out and we ordered something else... it took 45 minutes to get our drinks. I ordered filet and one piece was cooked fine the other was very raw and they took it back to cook it longer. They put a solid cold puck of some herb butter over my medium warm food, it was weird and I put it to the side. We were filling our own water with a pitcher left out on the counter. For the prices I was very disappointed. The service was poor, the back room ambiance wasn't great, the food was not that good. I was really disappointed. read more

Went here for dinner during a quick overnight trip at the Tailwater Lodge. We sat at the bar and quickly had drinks ordered! The speciality holiday drinks were great. The bartender was quick and personable. We had dinner reservations, but the place wasn't very full, so we probably could have done without them. It's also pretty spacious inside with several tables. First, we ordered an appetizer which was fantastic. It was the Salmon River Signature Sampler. This included chicken quesadilla bites, sweet corn fritters, pretzels and cheese, and crispy thai shrimp. The sweet corn fritters OMG. They were sweet (not too sweet) and so delicious. We ended up ordering dinner right at the bar and it came pretty quick as well. I ordered the special for the night, salmon Alfredo pasta, and my husband ordered the half pound cheeseburger. He said the burger was just okay. He also said the fries were bland. I however, thought the salmon dish was cooked perfectly. I was really surprised how much I loved the spot. The food was awesome. The service- outstanding. This is a hot spot for snowmobiling and along with a wedding they were busy. We came in several times during our stay. The French dip is amazing. I loved the sampler. The food came out quickly and almost everything was perfect. The real star here was Madison the host. She made an adjustment to our reservations so we could watch the playoffs. She even came by our table to check on us. One gripe- they could use some sound buffering. It was super loud- this is the only place to eat/drink on the property. I appreciate that it is lively but this is more of an upscale/cool vibe then quiet/romantic. My cousin and I went here for steelhead fishing. We loved it. Nicely appointed rooms. The great restaurant fills up fast, and it has a fantastic menu with delicious food and beers. We enjoyed the energy in the place, it was fantastic. We met nice people, bought a few gifts at the gift store and had an incredible experience. My filet mignon was cooked perfect. And then they smothered it in some absurd salty brown "demi glaze" and I honestly would like the district attorney to press charges. Honestly, the poor chef who cooked that steak and had to murder his own baby with the sauce. It's so sad. The food is cooked fine, but way too salty. Way too junked up. I was expecting a lot better. OK this is the fifth time we have gone to this restaurant and have been totally blown away every single solitary time. The food is absolutely amazing the chef is a real true chef and my fiancé is vegan and every time he has made her things from his own creativity that she absolutely loves. I can choose things off the menu and one of my favorites is the shrimp.. that is so delicious and now my most favorite is the two fillets with the demi-glaze. And I've had demi-glaze before but I've never had anything like this. Our Favorite servers are Keyshawn and Jenny they are the most personable friendliest servers. We have not had everyone there yet. LOL but eventually we will and I'm sure that we will have the same experience with them as we had with Keyshawn and Jenny. This is a very unique place as it's more geared to salmon fisherman and trout fisherman but also they can bring their wives to this five-star spa and hotel we haven't stayed here yet but we are definitely going to in the near future. This place appears to be out of nowhere in the middle of nowhere. LOL It is such a treasure it is definitely worth the trip. We go to Skaneateles and Cazenovia a lot and I decided from Cazenovia what it would be like to drive to Altmar and it was only about an hour from there. Totally worth the trip in every way read more

We visited this establishment last week. It's fairly close to Rt 81 but set back off the road on a fair amount of property. They have a huge outdoor, shaded venue and a wedding was going on that day. They have a large indoor venue with a lot of windows and a patio outside. I did not get to see it due to the wedding. There is also a fire pit. The establishment looks like it was added to an old school which I guess are the guest rooms. We went for dinner and we were pleasantly surprised. The room was tastefully rustic with a fairly big bar, maybe 40 seats in main area then two other rooms off that. There was a draft list of maybe 10 beers, about the same in bottles and wine by class and bottle. The house pino was 6.00 a glass and my draft swallow wit was 5.50. The menu had a variety of appetizers, meat dishes, pasta dishes. We had the poutine with beef, cheese curds and gravy. The fries were the double crunch and the curds were yummy. The gravy tasted like a pot roast. Very good though. I decided to try the fried chicken based on the description of the greens, garlic mashed potatoes and crystallized orange corn bread. The chicken was moist, the sides were beyond flavorful. It also came with a side salad of mixed greens, tomatoes with a good balsamic dressing and crumbled blue cheese. My husband had a chicken, shrimp and pasta dish with various veggies. He loved it. The only thing they need to do is add some light as it's fairly dark in there and no windows in main room. For 4 drinks, 1 appetizer and 2 entrees I think it was around 85.00 before tip. read more

We went back again for our third visit and,much to my dismay, they had completely changed their menu. Gone was the delicious tri-tip and lodge potatoes. The waitress said that they tend to switch it up a little bit every season. This visit I tried the chicken and shrimp penne with artichoke hearts and it was a little disappointing. The new England clam chowder had a spice and I couldn't identify and it was a little weird. Flatbread pizza appetizer was pretty good with chicken and bacon. We probably won't be back in the season but will try again in the winter hopefully they'll have tri-tip back on the menu by then. read more
