We walk in with a party of 12 and the place was dead, it was hard to get ahold of a worker to talk to. When we did, the worker was visibly upset at us for the size of our party and we asked to see a menu and if we could be sat, she was not pleased with us at all and we felt very unwelcomed. She got us to come near a bar top and started asking us what we wanted but was being pretty rude to us so we ended up just walking out a few minutes into this experience. Would definitely avoid this place and take your business elsewhere. read more

We were tourists and excited to try ice wine for the first time! I looked this winery up and had reached out to them before we came into town to make sure they were family friendly and they got back to me quickly. That was already a head impression. When we arrived, everyone was friendly and welcoming. The lady that helped us was very knowledgeable on the wines and gave us some fun information on how the ice wine is made which we loved. Between the Lines is a rustic family owned winery in NOTL. The 2 brothers Greg and Yannick Wertsch are focused on experimentation and innovation in wine making. You cant miss the big red barn when driving thru the wine region! Everyone was friendly and the wines were enjoyable. The tasting area is casual and while you sip you are surrounded by barrals aging and their tanks. We did the Black Glass Tasting which is a guided blind tasting of 4 wines. It was a fun way to learn about the wines, flavors and aromas. We guessed 3 of the 4 correctly! The Lemberger was my favorite: a noble grape known for its persistence and quality in the cooler climates of Austria and Germany-also known as Blaufränkisch. We brought a bottle home with us. 3 or 3.5 stars. My most recent visit at this winery was okay. They were busy seeing to a tour group and we were walk-in's. Staff are friendly but I had a better experience at my last visit a while ago in the fall when it wasn't so busy. Recommend making a reservation so they have more time for you. I tried the following: 1) GEWÜRZ BUBBLY (can) - tropical fruit, rose bouquet 2) BTL PINK (can) - pear, strawberry, rhubarb 3) PINOT GRIGIO (can) - peach, floral, apricot 4) MERLOT (glass) - raspberry, oak spice Personally, wines were a bit too dry for me. Even the GEWÜRZ BUBBLY, which they said was one of their most popular. I didn't pick up anything here but out the choices I tried, I liked the BLT Pink the most. Please note the back area winery is only available on weekends. Overall, I might be more inclined to visit in the fall for this winery. They have some nice holiday wine gifts and sell large GEWÜRZTRAMINER bottles with spices packets for mulled wine. read more

After dropping off relatives at Buffalo aéroport, my mother and I crossed the border for some wine time. Between the Lines was a random choice as we drove into town; a "by chance" visit that ended up yielding tasty results. They have a lovely space and our tasting was made even better by our lovely hostess: she shared her knowledge of the vines and wines, the winemaker, and the area. As the other reviews suggest, it matters who serves as your waitstaff or wine consigliere. We got lucky because the table next to us had someone who barely paid attention to them and we could hear them complaining. On the other hand, our lady was simply fabulous. She described every one of the 8 wines we sampled expertly, gave us a snippet on the owner's backstory, and shared tidbits about every single item on our meat and cheese tray. While the Pinot noir was quite good, I took home my favorites: the Gewuertztraminer (she tried to teach me how to pronounce it and I still struggle) and the Outset sparkling wine. Apparently they are the only place in the region canning their own product and they do a masterful job. If you are helped by the right person it is a wonderful experience. It might be wise to arrive early and observe the employees as they engage with patrons and then ask for the better ones! read more

This was a recommendation from a wait staff at a restaurant to do wine tasting. We decided to give it a try. On arrival, they were full and it seems it is usual to make a reservation to do the wine tasting. However, they made the effort and allowed us to do the tasting on the patio. For $15 you had the tasting of any 4 wines on their listing. I found we didn't quite get the same details of the wines or attention as I saw others getting. They would just ask what wine we wanted to try next, share it and leave. We had to actively engaged them in order to get details. As I find with Ontario wines, the white wines were the better ones. The Gewurtzraminer bubbly was my favourite of the wines I tried. read more

One of the better, recent winery visits in NOTL. It's quite hidden, but a gem! Between the Lines has been on my list for a while, but I was just able to visit over the weekend. It's a smaller winery which is what I prefer! I came here from Gretzky's which I didn't even bother with a tasting because it was extremely loud and busy. Tastings here are $15 for 4 samples. Paula did a wonderful job and was very knowledgeable. Highlights were Pinot Noir, Effervescent Gerwurz, & Cab Franc Icewine - which was really good! BTL also carried a varietal of red that I've never heard of, Lemberger which is similar to Carmenere. I'm sure it's good, but although it smelled quite juicy, it tastes quite acidic which I don't enjoy in wine. Paula also gave me a sample of the non-reserve version of Lemberger which was good to taste the difference btw the Reserve version. Grabbed a bottle of Effervescent Gerwurz, based on another patron's recommendation! Really liked this one, even though it's on the sweeter side. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit here and I'd recommend it! read more

We came on A Wednesday during our COVID-19 trip to the Falls. We came on the recommendation of good friends and we were happy we did! Mark gave the three of us a personal 'glass to grapes' tour. We started inside where we were treated to a Pinit Grigo which we took out to the vineyard. At the vineyard, Mark guided us through a thorough history of the vineyard and how the oucking if the bunches of wine became more Utomated in time. The bunches are then transferred to a process where stems are removed and how the wine is fermented. I dont want to give away the tour, but it was amazing and for only $15 a head what a wonderful choice to spend your day. You know, it is vital to the industry to support this business. Ontario charges excessive taxes to the small wineries who cannot afford that distribution. So they rely on us to patronage and enjoy there products. We visited Between the Lines due to a recommendation from De Simone winery, and I'm so glad we did! On a rainy Sunday afternoon the tasting room was fairly empty. Between our group of four we each had a 3-wine tasting; I had the Suarez pairing with cheese and my two friends tried both ice wines. Everyone was pleased with their selections, particularly the Lemberger red and the Vidal ice wine. The cheeses (a 2 year aged cheddar, a very mild goat and a Wisconsin cheese soaked in Merlot) were absolutely delicious and paired extremely well with their suggested counterparts. My friend and I visited this winery during the Days of Wine & Chocolate Event in the Niagara Region and we had a really good experience. We were offered cheese with a sample of an ice wine or two different samples of ice wine if we opted to skip the cheese. Since I am lactose intolerant, I decided to try both of the ice-wines. The wine sommelier served us both the 2016 Vidal ice-wine and the 2016 Cabernet Franc ice-wine. My favourite of the two was the Cabernet Frank Ice-wine. It was really rich and had notes of caramelized sugar. It was darker than the Vidal and satisfied my sweet tooth. The 2016 Vidal Ice-wine tasted lighter and less sweet than the Cabernet. I would definitely return to Between the Lines Winery for another tasting or to purchase the Cabernet Franc ice-wine. read more

He talked us through the different types of wine his winery, as well as the region, specialize in and the best pairings for types of food. We walked in the door and were ignored by the staff for over five minutes. It was a little busy, but two employees walked right past us and avoided eye contact. Not even a 'someone will be right with you'. I finally flagged someone down and they gestures towards some tables and said 'you can go over there'. Pretty pathetic hospitality. We just left and will not be back. I see that there a couple other reviewers that found the staff to be rude. I guess they really don't care about customer service. read more

We went to BTL with friends to do a tasting (Feb 4 2023). Elaine treated us like long lost friends and was so knowledgeable. She shared a history of BTL and spoke about the wine with passion. I understand the partnership with Viator Between the Lines winery so they may come here regardless, but I'd like to make you aware of a situation. I am familiar with Napa and Sonoma wineries and was looking for the same education and treatment at Niagara's wineries. We went to BETWEEN THE LINES during the wine tour, asked questions about the origin of the grapes and Yannick could not answer those regarding types/times of year, and then because of that said I was cut off to avoid asking the questions. He is also the "co owner" of the property. Perhaps because he felt too embarrassed that he couldn't answer the questions of the winery he inherited. I was not reimbursed for the tasting. We had a wonderful experience at Between the Lines winery. Grape and Wine tours made the reservation for our visit (along with three other wineries) so we had a table waiting upon arrival. Greg Wertsch introduced my friend and I to some wonderful wines. He had prepared a charcuterie plate for each of us and explained why he paired wine with each bite on the plate. Went here on a wine tour and sadly it was the last winery to end the tour. Not impressed with any of the wines they chose for us to taste. Their Rosé was interesting but not amazing. They are known for their canned wines but did not have us try those because they are in high demand. I would've bought a pack just to try but after the tasting I wasn't impressed. Our host also made us start out from sweet to dry wines which I thought was a weird way to transition our tastings. They are also known for their semi sweet ice wine which I would've loved to try because all the ice wines we tried were way too sweet for me! Overall I'd love to give this winery more stars but just can't because of the low grade wine I tasted. Perhaps they should change up the variety of wines they offer for tastings. read more

This family-owned vineyard is a little setback from other vineyards and its a little newer than the others we visited, but it was still just as nice. We sampled their Merlot, Cab-Franc, and Icewine. We really liked the knowledge and descriptions Yannick provided us from all the wines their vineyard offered. Wine tasting: We weren't too crazy about the taste of their Cab-Franc. We did however, think the Icewine and Merlot were nice and bought a bottle each. They use plastic caps rather than wood corking for most of their wines (except for the pricier wines such as the icewine) and poured the two red's into the same cup without rinsing...I would have liked to have tried the wines in different cups. I'm sure they offer a wine tour but they were a bit short-staffed and we wanted to be on our way so we didn't do the wine tour. read more

After a visit to another winery, we changed our plan for the day to visti this winery and the other newer wineries near it. All that we knew was that it was a newer winery and that it came recommended. When we walked in, we were promptly greeted and brought over to one of the three areas that they had set up for tasting. There is a fee for tasting, but they waive the fee if you buy wine. I love Cab Franc and their reserve did not disappoint. It was full bodied and flavorful without being overwhelming. Even my non dry red drinking husband enjoyed it. Our mutual favorite was their ice wine. It was sweet and tasty. We ended up trying a few others that were tasty as well, but our purchase was the Cab Franc and the ice wine. One of the sons/owners is who did our tasting. It was fun getting information about the name of the winery and family history about the farm. I'd come back for a visit and have already recommended it to friends. read more

The Eric Brut is the best Brut (ie. least dry lol) I've ever had + my husband and I found our new favorite ice wines (the Vidal for me and the Cabernet Franc for him). Quaint little boutique winery visited with Magnificent tours. Our guide was sweet and we were able to try 3 different wines (1 white and 2 red). This is a newer winery and only does limited production. It was cool to try something new (A lemberger wine) but I personally wasn't a huge fan. I prefer Oaked and full bodied wines. Most of these wines were only oaked for 6mos and just didn't have the weight I'm looking for If you're into eclectic and one of a kind venues, definitely a place to add to your bucket list. read more

Adorable small winery in a red barn run by two brothers. Had an excellent tasting lead by one of the brothers who was extremely knowledgable about their products. You could feel the passion in his presentation. They had an excellent sparkling wine which they package in cans and sell at the LCBO! Definitely worth it to stop by and check it out. read more

We stopped at Between the Lines as a first stop in touring the area. We tried a few of the wines and while they were nice, nothing really jumped out at us. Then the woman who was giving us different wines to taste gave us a map of the area and started trashing the other wineries. "These two are really corporate." "Here's one that has a nice tour but their wine is terrible." "This one changed hands recently and they're still getting their act together." It really ruined the mood. We drove through NOTL, stopped at one other winery, and ultimately went home empty handed. Three stars for the wine, one for the depressing woman we got stuck with. read more

This is one of the best wineries in Niagara-on-the-Lake. It is family-run and owned and every time we go we feel like part of the family. I highly recommend the reds as well as their home-grown cans of sparkling wine. We took a vineyard and wine making tour with the owner and it was excellent.
