Between the Lines is a rustic family owned winery in NOTL. The 2 brothers Greg and Yannick Wertsch are focused on experimentation and innovation in wine making. You cant miss the big red barn when driving thru the wine region! Everyone was friendly and the wines were enjoyable. The tasting area is casual and while you sip you are surrounded by barrals aging and their tanks. We did the Black Glass Tasting which is a guided blind tasting of 4 wines. It was a fun way to learn about the wines, flavors and aromas. We guessed 3 of the 4 correctly! The Lemberger was my favorite: a noble grape known for its persistence and quality in the cooler climates of Austria and Germany-also known as Blaufränkisch. We brought a bottle home with us. My rating rationale for beer, wine, or spirits: +1 Service +1 Atmosphere/Vibe +1 Taste/Quality (Flavor, aroma, and overall quality of the beverage) +1 Presentation (Glassware, garnishes, and visual appeal of the drinks) +1 Selection/Variety (Range of beer, wine, or spirit options and uniqueness of offerings)

Welcoming and friendly staff. Seated quickly Rustic appearance giving the feel of been in the aging room of a winery. Staff knowledgable of the wines they have, how they are made, and how to pair then Offers different types of wine tasting with food that pairs well. Offers wine for purchase, I left with a bottle Will go again

This will stop one on our craft brewery tour that we did. I wish we went here as the last because it was the most fun I had. The wine was delicious and the sommelier serving us were entertaining

3 or 3.5 stars. My most recent visit at this winery was okay. They were busy seeing to a tour group and we were walk-in's. Staff are friendly but I had a better experience at my last visit a while ago in the fall when it wasn't so busy. Recommend making a reservation so they have more time for you. I tried the following: 1) GEWÜRZ BUBBLY (can) - tropical fruit, rose bouquet 2) BTL PINK (can) - pear, strawberry, rhubarb 3) PINOT GRIGIO (can) - peach, floral, apricot 4) MERLOT (glass) - raspberry, oak spice Personally, wines were a bit too dry for me. Even the GEWÜRZ BUBBLY, which they said was one of their most popular. I didn't pick up anything here but out the choices I tried, I liked the BLT Pink the most. Please note the back area winery is only available on weekends. Overall, I might be more inclined to visit in the fall for this winery. They have some nice holiday wine gifts and sell large GEWÜRZTRAMINER bottles with spices packets for mulled wine.

After dropping off relatives at Buffalo aéroport, my mother and I crossed the border for some wine time. Between the Lines was a random choice as we drove into town; a "by chance" visit that ended up yielding tasty results. They have a lovely space and our tasting was made even better by our lovely hostess: she shared her knowledge of the vines and wines, the winemaker, and the area. Enjoyed the experience and look forward to returning.

Two must haves when you dabble Between the Lines.

As the other reviews suggest, it matters who serves as your waitstaff or wine consigliere. We got lucky because the table next to us had someone who barely paid attention to them and we could hear them complaining. On the other hand, our lady was simply fabulous. She described every one of the 8 wines we sampled expertly, gave us a snippet on the owner's backstory, and shared tidbits about every single item on our meat and cheese tray. While the Pinot noir was quite good, I took home my favorites: the Gewuertztraminer (she tried to teach me how to pronounce it and I still struggle) and the Outset sparkling wine. Apparently they are the only place in the region canning their own product and they do a masterful job. If you are helped by the right person it is a wonderful experience. It might be wise to arrive early and observe the employees as they engage with patrons and then ask for the better ones!

This was a recommendation from a wait staff at a restaurant to do wine tasting. We decided to give it a try. On arrival, they were full and it seems it is usual to make a reservation to do the wine tasting. However, they made the effort and allowed us to do the tasting on the patio. For $15 you had the tasting of any 4 wines on their listing. I found we didn't quite get the same details of the wines or attention as I saw others getting. They would just ask what wine we wanted to try next, share it and leave. We had to actively engaged them in order to get details. As I find with Ontario wines, the white wines were the better ones. The Gewurtzraminer bubbly was my favourite of the wines I tried.

    Bitter and generally disappointing.

Pro-tip: Ask to see their wine taste wheel to see how many flavors and subtle nuances you can taste in each wine. Meh. The winery is well situated on the Niagara wine trail. The wines are overpriced and under-flavored. Cute wine names for their kids, but that is where it ended. Really not good wines. The ice wine was good, but very sweet as ice wines are.

Tracy was amazing at serving us and walking us through the black glass tasting!!! She was very helpful and informative and kind to my husband and I. This was the first time we have gone to a black glass tasting and we are so glad that Tracy was the first server to do it:) The overall winery is very nice, it is slightly loud indoors but definitely not that bad. You can take photos outside by the grapes which is super amazing imo bc most winerys dont do that:)

Ryan did our group wine tasting tour in the back and it was awesome! He was very knowledgeable and gave us a great selection of wines to sample.

We came on A Wednesday during our COVID-19 trip to the Falls. We came on the recommendation of good friends and we were happy we did! Mark gave the three of us a personal 'glass to grapes' tour. We started inside where we were treated to a Pinit Grigo which we took out to the vineyard. At the vineyard, Mark guided us through a thorough history of the vineyard and how the oucking if the bunches of wine became more Utomated in time. The bunches are then transferred to a process where stems are removed and how the wine is fermented. I dont want to give away the tour, but it was amazing and for only $15 a head what a wonderful choice to spend your day. You know, it is vital to the industry to support this business. Ontario charges excessive taxes to the small wineries who cannot afford that distribution. So they rely on us to patronage and enjoy there products. I encourage everyone to make stop at 'Between the Liines!' -Zuk

There was plenty of parking right in front, and the views of the building and vineyard were absolutely beautiful. We were greeted warmly by the hostess when we arrived, and when we requested a table in the shade, she gladly accommodated us. The service throughout lunch was excellent. My wife has a tree nut allergy, and our waitress made sure to inform the kitchen so my wife could safely enjoy her meal without worry, which we really appreciated. We ordered two pizzas and two charcuterie boards. Unfortunately, the charcuterie boards were very overpriced for what was included: each board only had 8 thin slices of salami, 8 thin slices of capicola, a small bowl of olives, and a few small pieces of cheese. Two boards came to roughly $70 before tax, which definitely did not feel worth the price. The prosciutto and arugula pizza was also VERY dry, and surprisingly they didn't even have balsamic glaze or balsamic vinegar available for it. Another waitress brought over some olive oil, but then charged us $3 for it, which honestly didn't sit right considering we explained how dry the pizza was. The location, atmosphere, and service were wonderful, but the food quality and pricing left a lot to be desired. We usually just come here for wine, but we won't be returning.

Food 4/5 Service 3/5…read moreAmbiance 5/5 Food: I came here as a part of a work event. Our company had the whole event space booked. We had a set menu with three courses. Our first course was a green salad with currants. That was delicious actually. I really liked the currants. The next course was a choice of either chicken or squash (not many options!). I had chosen the squash but because of my food allergies they ended up giving me a mushroom dish. I love mushrooms so I didn't mind. That dish was actually quite tasty. The last course was a dessert which was a seasonal crumble with ice cream. They gave me a shaved coconut & berries dish due to my food allergies. The food was okay but my mind wasn't blown. I tried a bit of both the red wine & white wine but didn't like the taste. Then again I'm not much of wine drinker. Service: Some of the servers looked like the would rather be anywhere else than at the event. My server was great though, he was very attentive to me because of my food allergies. However, one of the servers dropped a carafe of boiling hot coffee on the ground. It hit me a bit, the guy next to me got some in his eye & another guy across from us was also hit. I was not happy about that. The server was really apologetic & went to get some ice. Took her forever but she finally found some & gave it to the people who were affected. I smelled like coffee after that. Ambiance: The vineyard is really lovely. We got there just before the sun started setting & it made for some amazing views. The dining hall is nice as well with it's high ceilings & floor to ceiling windows. The group washrooms were clean & pretty also. I'm not sure if I would come here again on my own. My impression of the food & service is tainted by the coffee being spilled on us. They were really apologetic & everything but sometimes first impressions are everything. I'm not often in the Niagara on the Lake area & if I were I wouldn't make a special trip to come here given my past experience here.

Throughout these visits, we would be asking the owners and employees if there were any other wineries they'd recommend. Guess which name kept popping up? 'Five Rows'. Sooo, finishing up what would be our 9th flight of samples, we headed out to see what all the buzz was about. Finding the place turned out to be a bit tricky, but it's well worth the few odd twists and turns. We soon pulled up to a quaint little barn, and quickly made our way inside. The inside was nicely furnished, giving an easy family/homey feel. After entering, one of the owners (Wilma) invited us over to sit with her. Wilma began sharing story after story, all deliciously peppered with humour. You couldn't help but feel right at home. However I must confess, for the first five minutes I couldn't take my eyes off the gigantic cheese block sitting at the centre of the table. Finally I broke, and filled a rainforest cracker (aka the best crackers ever) with smoked parmesan cheese... AMAZING! Besides that... Hanging with Wilma and sampling wines was like hanging with your mom at the dinner table after Thanksgiving; the wine, conversation, and good times just keeps on flowing. Not a great experience with their service and mediocre food. We arrived at 7:30pm for our reservation on a Tuesday evening and were seated right away. There's a 3 course for $80, or 2 course for $75. We ordered two 2 courses and two 3 courses between our table of 4, and one lager. Appetizers came at 8:20pm. The waiter told us right before the appetizers were served that there was a group of 20ppl right ahead of us, hence the slow service. The main hall was full of the 20ppl group, but our dining section had 3 tables, including ours - so it doesn't seem that busy as it was mostly empty. He did not check in with us during this 50min wait time between sitting down and appies arriving, nor did he bring the lager, or give us a heads up about the wait any earlier. Not off to a great start. APPETIZER: Pate shortbread cookie: I quite liked this one, the sweet buttery shortbread crunch, with a salty creamy pate filling and a dab of jam on top. There's prosciutto and greens on the side. This dish was the definition of sweet and savoury. My friend got the cold soup and loved it. MAIN: Arrancini: mix of mushrooms and veggies, rice, deep fried in a ball shape. THIS WAS HORRIBLE. There wasn't much flavour to the arancini themselves, nor in the sauce. There was some sort of marinated mushroom, and that was good but the Arancini was so stale, similar to how a food court pre-deep fries their items and leaves it in a hot tray. They were not crispy at all, and had a hard chewy exterior. -I asked the waiter if the arancini was supposed to be crispy, he said yes, they are deep fried so it's supposed to be crispy. -I said it tastes quite hard and chewy instead, not crispy. -He said something along the lines of "Is there something you'd like me to do about it?" -I was very disappointed but didn't want to cause a scene so I said no. I couldn't finish it. Overall, super underwhelming restaurant for the price point. (P.S. the winery part is great though, I'd recommend the tasting and grab a few bottles, but I do NOT recommend the restaurant)
