It's been a five star place for me since I first was shown its quaint location by a fellow over heated raft guide in the late 90s. He told me they cook 20-30 turkeys a day. That might have been the heat exhaustion, but what I can say is that turkey is the ticket when you order your food here. It is KNOWN for its large sandwiches. The turban (turkey and pastrami ruben) is my goto. I've had the jumbo ( turkey stuffing and cranberries) Truly a second stomach kind of thing. I've had the ruben which was good but left me craving the turkey. And I've had the French dip. Which was good but again lacked the focus. My wife recently had the BLT which was blasphemy to me but it had all the right things in the right places. And a pile of bacon. I can only speak for the bar seating and HAPPY HOUR 3-6pm which has good appetizer and drink specials. And truly frigid air conditioning. Which is a welcome thing in July and August. The decor is bowling and classic old men in various post work attire everybody seems to know one another and are welcoming to outsiders. Staff. Well it tends to change. I absolutely love the Turkey sandwich and atmosphere at Strike and Spare Grill. On the Sunday after Thanksgiving, we had a person, who later identified himself the dishwasher, asked us if we were ready for our bill. We responded yes and I asked him to clear the plates as his hands were empty. He proceeded to argue with me and said he'd rather wait u til we were gone to do so. I explained to him, as a former waitress, that it's polite to clear tables of empty dirty plates. again he argued with me and walked away without the plates. Wowza. I was polite, and yet he couldn't be bothered. I also had to ask the server to take the plates too. I find this so odd, as removing dirty plates is SOP in any restaurant. One more note, when refilling water glasses, it should be done with a pitcher and not taking a customers glass away to do so. This is all basic restaurant etiquette . read more

Thought this would be fun with a couple family members before trying to bowl. Well..we ordered from the bar in the back and Keaton was the friendliest, hands down the BEST customer service of all! We tried the prime rib sandwich...and I have no words for it. WHAT WAS THIS PERFECTION? Who would have expected it to be so amazing, prime rib sliced, melt in your mouth on buttered toast? Wow. The flavor was phenomenal. I forgot what everybody else got because it was that good. Actually the hubby got a burger and he really liked it and some fried mushrooms. We traveled back through a couple months later and Keaton was there and immediately recognized us!!! You guys...trust me. Get the prime rib sandwich. This time it was happy hour and we got a few things like the little mini tacos which were crispy & fun in a basket full of fixings on the side. My brother got the prime rib sandwich & couldn't stop commenting how it's the best sandwich he's ever had. Anyway.. this place is really good. OK now I have always known that Bowling Alleys usually has some damn good food, But DANG this place rocks the Sammich like no Bowling Alley I have ever been in before So I am in Lewiston yesterday for work, and I have to take 10 hours off before I can start driving again, so I ask the guys there where I can get some good food, and Fast / Chain Food is not a option !! So they tell me the Strike and Spare is the place for a Damn good Sammich, that they cook the Turkeys every day and slice it up fresh, I am all about good fresh food So I borrow a Pickup and head over to see what they have to offer, at first I was like wow look at these prices.... $9 for a Half and $12 for a whole sammich, sounded kinda steep but I was like well I am here lets do it, I got a Whole Jumbo Turkey Sammich, and when they say Jumbo they mean it !! this thing was good to go for Lunch and Dinner, I also got a cup of the Turkey Noodle Soup, oh yeah it was all so good, I had the sammich with some Onions added it really didn't need anything else but next time I would like a little Mustard, and the second half was just as good for dinner as the first half was for lunch I will be back for more I want to try the Cock and Bull, it's Turkey and Roast Beef, that just sounds good together read more

I'd like to give them 2 1/2 stars instead of 3. They are not quite what they used to be. This place used to be the bomb when it comes to sandwiches, I loved the Turben which was a Ruben made with shredded turkey. I have to say I wad sadly disappointed with my Turben last night. They barely put sauerkraut on it, could not detect any until I peeked under the bread and there were about 4 little strands. The turkey noodle soup is still the epitome of comfort food with huge wide homemade (I think) noodles in a thick almost turkey gravy broth. The sandwiches are still huge, one would feed my family. We were told by a local to come here and was told sandwiches are HUGE. Oh, how that was so true. I was craving some meatloaf but figured if portions are huge maybe do a half sandwich of it is ok. Had dinner with the family at Strike and Spare--and it was A-ok. We ordered a turkey sandwich, burger, popcorn shrimp and Mac N Cheese. The turkey sandwich was great; huge portions and came with really good shoestring fries. My son was disappointed that the popcorn shrimp weren't really popcorn shrimp--it was actually a plate of 8 fairly good sized fried shrimp. I think once he got past his initial disappointment he enjoyed his shrimp. My youngest son did NOT like his Mac n cheese. Surprisingly good! Hubby and I shared a sandwich because they are really big. We had a French Dip with onion rings. The beef on the sandwich was perfect, the Au Jus was rich and tasty, and the onion rings were thick and perfectly fried. Our server was quick and friendly too. Went on June 9, for my dad's 81st birthday. There were 3 little kids and 5 adults. I reserved it so a couple tables could be out together and everything was ready when we got there. The gentleman who waited on our table made the entire evening from beginning to end, perfect! He was very attentive, the orders were right, food was awesome as always! You can't beat the turkey noodle soup, turkey sandwiches, or steak bites. The kids menu is GREAT with lots of choices...oh, and curly fries are the best!!! The waiter even walked to the door with us and held the door open when we left...that may not sound like much but we were quite a ways from the door and our table and there were plenty of customers but he was always hustling, was fun to talk to, and had a great sense of humor. The ladies who worked there too were all very nice and fun to talk to. The food is always good and we've never had a bad meal. Recommend the turkey or cock and bull full sandwich...you can only eat half but you can have the rest for lunch or dinner the next day and it's wonderful then too. We drive 40 mins to eat there as often as we can. Oh...cocktails are great and especially, the bloody mary!! Great bar, restaurant, staff, and bowling ally!! You can have cocktails no matter where you go. HIGHLY RECOMMEND and if I could give it more stars I would! I cant provide an extensive review of Strike and Spare but we were invited along to try the turkey sandwich and turkey noodle soup....a partucularly favorite meal for us. First impression was not so good...Sunday lunch at a bowling alley. It got a little better when we got inside and saw a homey restaurant (it could use a little update but face it you are in a bowling alley). They have a typical diner style menu but we ordered the whole hot turkey sandwich to split and an extra cup of soup to split since that is what we came for. Half a sandwich is ample so think twice about going solo on the whole. Service was good and fast. The sandwich came...grilled on sourdough. There was copious amounts of meat and it was tender and juicy...obviously roasted in house. The sandwich was 5 star but the soup was off the hook. Rich and creamy and the home made noodles were basically dumplings. This soup has the flavor of pan drippings and a cup disappears quickly. read more

Nice little "hole in the wall" behind the local bowling alley. My husband was born here so knew the bar and alley from back in the 50's. Service was slow, but they are serving the bowling alley and bar too so wasn't concerned with that. They acknowledged the wait and were apologetic without prompting.
