Kalua Pork Plate with Volcano Fries

I could not be happier with my experience at Imua! I called ahead of time to ask some questions about their gluten-free options. They were so kind, explaining the precautions they take to accommodate their customers with Celiac (including a dedicated gluten-free fryer for their fries, only having gluten-free soy sauce in house, and changing gloves/utensils to reduce the risk of cross contamination). I felt very safe eating here and great afterward (no symptoms of having gluten). The food was incredible and full of flavor. This will definitely be a staple for me when visiting the area.

Stopped in Imua Hawaiian Style when I came to Lewiston for work last couple times. Wow this place feels like and tastes like home. Junior and his 'Ohana really take care and their food - from the shoyu chicken, Teri beef, musubis and poke are so good - I genuinely feel like I'm back in the Islands. I'm an O'ahu boy but Maui stand up cuz these guys are Nō Ka 'Oi! Mahalo you guys and IMUA!

Alright, I will be the first to let you know I was VERY surprised to find a Hawaiian restaurant in Lewiston, ID. VERY SURPRISED and a little apprehensive... BUT I was absolutely wrong! Honestly, I was expecting a "haolefied" style of Hawaiian food. But the restaurant exudes Hawaiian hospitality with the Aloha spirit! The owner, Junior, is a true home-grown Hawaiian-born local, he wecomes you like you are dining in his home. It is located on Main street in downtown Lewiston, so street parking is what you have and it's pretty easy to find. You do place your order at the register, find a spot to sit and enjoy the island grooves playing. I ordered the Imua mix plate with Kalua pork and Shoyu chicken, which also comes with 2 scoops of rice and mac salad - a typical plate lunch. I have to say the Kalua pork was legit! But I gravitated to the Shoyu chicken, it was fall of the bone tender!!! I look forward to the next time my work travels take me here so I can try more ono grub!

So happy I found this place via Yelp. Since I was visiting customers in the area and wanted rice I was glad. I really like a good Loco Moco so I went with this option. The hamburger was made fresh, the rice was cooked perfectly, the gravy was tasty, and the macaroni salad was really good.

    Owner is from Maui.

My family and I was feeling hungry late afternoon and I didn't want no more burgers, fries, or pasta. I Yelped for food places in the area and came across this here. After reading reviews I wanted to check out the place. When I walked in and saw who is behind the scene (someone from Maui - see the chain of islands on the wall and Maui is highlighted) the food was going to be of that back home. To my surprise it was better than what we get back in Hawaii. The service was great. The owner?? Was friendly and nice. The ambiance was welcoming. Again, the food was absolutely great. We all enjoyed our meals and are planning to return once more before leaving Lewiston, ID.

This place is top notch! The food, the atmosphere, the customer service. Everything here is amazing!! It's all very fresh. If you are lucky enough to get Junior or Sienna, you know you'll be taken care of! Thanks for helping us cool down with shave ice that brought back great memories! And those volcano fries... YUM! We'll be back for sure!

I have been hearing this is the place to be if you want Hawaiian food! I gotta say, it did not disappoint! Now one thing I'll say is there was a bit of confusion on how to get into the restaurant since the door next to it looked like a door to another store but it's the door to many stores inside! Love the decorations in the restaurant, and the owner greeted me with a smile! I was able to order a loco moco and a mini katsu with a side of spam masubi with and egg. Everything was scrumptious, the potato macaroni salad was a little too dill or celery heavy in taste for my liking but was still good. My favorite item out of all the food I got was the masubi, I used to hate spam and as I got older, I now have such a different appreciation for it. One other thing that doesn't relate to the food is while I was there, I watched the owner greet a customer who came in lookin for a job. He told the guy it was his lucky day and that he would hire him to start first thing in the morning! Love the support he is willing to give to the people in the community. If you are in the area, please come show support and taste the yummy food he has to offer! Wish it was open later so you got to get there by 5 PM!

We got there right around 6PM on Monday. There were only two other parties there so service was pretty quick. I think we got our food without 15 or 20 minutes. Chicken Fried Steak Burger ($15.49) - Starting with the meat, we have a pork chop that's breaded and fried. The pork still has a bit of fat and gristle attached and doesn't seem to be tenderized that much given a somewhat more firm bite. Still it's meaty, has good seasoning and, while not especially moist, isn't dry either. On the exterior they have a nice layer of breading that's quite salty but adds a good crunch to the sandwich. On top of the meat, there's a fried egg with the egg yolk still runny. Biting through the sandwich allows the yolk to ooze out. They add shredded potatoes to the burger, which I found to be quite week. The potatoes are undercooked, resulting in pieces that have a bit too much raw bite without any additional crisp crunch. There's a peppery and decadent sausage gravy dousing everything, which seems homemade, with larger pieces of breakfast pork pieces. I found the burger to be way too rich and it desperately needs a piquant element to cut through that a little bit. Otherwise it's eating heavy bite after heavy bite and is difficult to get through. Still it's tasty. (3/5) Upgrade Side to Poutine ($2.49) - The burgers come with fresh cut fries by default, but I chose to upgrade to poutine. Apparently if you just ask for poutine, they use tots, but I asked them to switch to fries - and to make them extra crispy. Were they extra crispy? Not at all. If anything, they were more like extra soggy. The fries are clearly single fried and not fried nearly long enough to add any sort of crisp. The brown gravy and queso (tostitos perhaps given the peppers?) taste as expected. With everything together, it's honestly indistinguishable from microwaved leftover poutine. Probably the most disappointing thing I ate that night. (2/5) KC's Burger ($11.49) - The patty is beefy, cooked medium with a bit of pink, and is exceptionally moist and flavorful. They add tons of veggies, including pickle, onion, tomato, and lettuce, giving freshness with every bite. There's a perfect amount of condiments to add additional moisture, but not too much to make the burger messy to eat. This is a solid burger, honestly not much else I can say about it. (4/5) Upgrade Side to Green Bean Fries ($2.49) - I haven't had green bean fries before, so I had to order this. I have to say this was much better than expected - in fact, this was the best thing I ate during the meal. They have a pretty good crisp exterior and the interior green bean is mostly tender but still exhibits a tiny bit of a snap. The green beans are not soggy at all. I would get these over and over again. (5/5) Frybread Slice ($1.49) - This was the last chance to get frybread on our road trip and we took advantage of it. This "slice" is essentially a small doughnut triangle, maybe 4 inches at the widest. The dough is dense and heavy, bready and chewy, folded over in a swirl rather than flattened. The taste has a bit of a subtle sourdoughy taste, but also a bit of bitterness from the oil. It's definitely very different from all the Native American frybreads we had this trip. (4/5) The food at KC's is a bit hit and miss, but if you stay with the burgers and avoid getting the fries, you'll probably leave satisfied. I see a lot of the negative reviews complaining about service, but we didn't have a problem. Perhaps since those reviews were written, the staff has improved? Bathrooms: Two individual rooms ones for each gender in the hallway behind the bar. Overall rating of the food this visit: 3.6/5

I had asked for some ranch along with my sandwich, and she said she needed to get the other orders and she would come back. She never did. My Dad's friend ordered the chicken club without bacon. He received his sandwich and I thought he was eating healthy for a second and my dad commented that he thought he got a sandwich. My Dad's friend thought he did too, and I looked back at the menu and sure enough it does say it's supposed to come on a bun. There was no bun at all, but being older, he didn't want to send it back as we were already eating. We also observed the waitress, kind of put down another patrons, lunch plate, a little aggressively, and the patron was kind, but couldn't believe it. I have no idea if she was having a bad day so I can have Grace on that, but when you're in the public eye, Customer Service is scary much noted. My food was tasty. I would've loved to try their ranch with my onion rings, but she never came back to ask me that. We did hear a couple other of the patrons ask for mayonnaise and I don't know if they got that. We were there for a seminar, so we observed people in a small (there were 16 of us). I love the interior of Ernie's! It was my first time, so I was impressed by the decor and space. On our way out, there was a sign that said exit and it was the shortest way to the front door, but the same waitress told me to go all the way around. My elderly father has trouble walking so we took our time, and as soon as we made it to the front door, I witnessed a couple other people who were in our seminar go the way I had initially wanted to go, and no one told them otherwise. Overall, the food was good (my dad's friend would've liked it as a sandwich and not a "cut with fork and knife" situation) and the atmosphere was great, but the service was mid, at best.
