I contacted Arizona Soccer Skills Academy because my son was begging me for private soccer lessons…read moreover the summer. I spoke with Coach Rizzo on several occasions about it, and he kept trying to push us to the summer camp group sessions, which I made clear I did not want. Eventually, Coach Rizzo agreed to private lessons, and I registered and paid the $414 for 6 weekly lessons. After the first lesson, Coach Rizzo suggested we join the group sessions, which I took to mean in addition to the private lessons. Yesterday, we showed up for lesson #2, and Coach Rizzo was not there. When I texted him, he said he transferred us to the group sessions in lieu of private lessons, and when I objected and requested a refund, he said they don't issue refunds. So, it was a bait and switch, and I'm out hundreds of dollars. Their website says they offer private soccer lessons, but only if your child is good enough, apparently, yet they will gladly take your money and provide nothing in return. It should be noted we did attend a trail group session before registering AND PAYING FOR private lessons and then a group session after the first private lessons. We were less than impressed. The teenage coaches kept the kids in a tiny practice space, no even large enough to run in, and did extremely basic drills. (My son is 13 and has been playing recreational soccer for years.) My son was bored and not at all challenged. I do not recommend this organization.

Kids are grouped by skill level to practice drills & scrimmage with others. I really like the practice times/locations (Cooley middle school & Power Ranch) and the coaches (James runs the show but has many assistant coaches working with small groups). My kids understand the game now & have improved as athletes. We've referred a few friends. Great set up all around!

Our initiation into Club/Academy soccer. It has been a nightmare. …read more 4 week late start... initial coach fired. 6 weeks later... moving on to another coach. The coach we did have did not teach any basics, no skill development, no positional training. Not even the fundamentals of passing were addressed ever.. we had to address our concerns as a whole team to a different director just to be heard... and threatened to quit as a whole team for our director to listen.... My son wants to quit because he "practices enough at recess in school". He's very young and not a football superstar... but he even noticed. He realized he is wasting his time and its not fun. So 10 weeks in and zero training. Tournaments are just a few weeks away... Hopefully the new coaches are actual coaches that live the game and love to teach!

There is a $5 gate fee for anyone over the age of 16. They have 8 fields which have been built as replicas of famous ballparks and the field offers stadium style seating. Sliders sports grill is located on the north and south side of the complex. You can watch your childs game from inside of the restaurant from the windows, which is pretty awesome. You don't have to miss your child's game if you're grabbing a bite to eat or needing to go inside to cool off. Bring some cash for their gaming machines inside of the restaurant. The bar only offers seltzers and beer. Their Ben's soft pretzels are the best! If you like white queso, get a side of this for your pretzel, yum! We have enjoyed all of their food, so far nothing was bad. If your child needs some batting practice, check out their batting cages near the main entrance of the park. They have a playground located next to the south restaurant. This is a plus for children who are not in a tournament to entertain themselves. I do wish there was a playground next to the north restaurant. My son usually plays on north side so my 5 year old can't go over to the playground unless someone is willing to supervise. The complex also offers your indoor sports programs year around. They offer indoor soccer league play, soccer skills training, lacrosse, preschool classes and yoga. See you in the near future!

It has large fields with fun backdrops, an indoor restaurant with seats by the window so you can enjoy the game with air conditioning on those hot AZ days, and indoor bathrooms! They also serve beer, including a couple of craft beers on draft. That was exciting to me because I've never been able to drink a beer while watching a girls' softball tournament. I got a hazy IPA from Four Peaks, along with chicken tenders and fries. The chicken was good. Fries were lightly battered, which is not my preference, but they were still pretty good. Finished my food inside, but went back out to the stadium seats because you can't hear the game from inside, so it wasn't as exciting to watch. Notes: -For any tournaments hosted by outside organizations (not the town of Gilbert), there is a $5 fee at the gate for non-Gilbert residents age 16 and over. That being said, Paloma Soccer Complex is one of the places that my son plays on occasion. It's nothing super special... If memory serves, the parking lot can be a challenge and I've had to park in the way back past the paved area on a dirt lot and make the trek back to the fields... I also think that porta-potties are the only option for a bathroom and there is no concession (or at least there wasn't when I've been for tournaments). I will update next visit, however! Go with low expectations and you'll be just fine!

This location boasts 2 floors, with everything from kayaks to baseball bats and shoes for every sport to clothing for the kiddos. They carry major brand names such as Yeti, Hydroflask, Nike, Puma, etc. I was pleasantly surprised to also find ratchet tie downs for pick up trucks in the kayak/SUP section. They had a great sale going on before the 4th. I was able to snag my life vest for just $20! I won't be using it too much, but you gotta be safe no matter what! I was browsing around and trying on different brands when an employee asked if I needed any help. I politely declined. I did drop a star due to the fact that when I checked out, there was only one register open. There were about 3 of us behind the person who was paying. On a late afternoon weekday there were quite a few young people upstairs using weights. They don't have the latest machines but they do the job. They also have a 1/12 of a mile track that is adequate for walking or short distances. There's racquetball and Basketball courts that are also for volleyball and pickleball. In the middle is a small climbing wall that is often busy. There's also ping pong and Foosball tables. They also offer Classes like zumba and yoga; the yoga class was okay but the instructor could have been friendlier to everyone, not just certain people. They have reasonable prices compared to regular gyms and offer resident and nonresident daily passes. Staff was very friendly. Too bad there's no pool!

Competition was great and he learned a lot. Yeah we lost most of our games but his skill level and soccer IQ improved greatly. More parents should try GYSA instead of paying thousands of dollar to play for a name club. Being honest, most of our kids won't be playing professionally or even collegiately but to give them a shot at playing for their high school is reasonable so save that money for college and let them enjoy soccer without the stress. High level of competition, good coaches, and refs that also work for AIA during the high school season. And yes, there will be some negatives: missed calls, parents or coaches acting like fools, finding a parking spot, all things that can happen anywhere you play.
